Mandarin is one of the easiest languages to learn how to read and understand

Okay. Once again, I don’t disagree with you. My son isn’t aggressive, at least not this one. He’s…good. Decent. He’d be the kind of cop who’d play basketball with kids and be a comfort to a battered woman. Whether this would make him unsuited for the job, I don’t know. Training and experience change people, so maybe he’d become more aggressive over time. Or angry. Hard to say.

I also wonder where he’ll go from dispatching. He’s getting calls from women cowering in closets and people trying to save their dying family members. It’s intense. Whether it’ll pull him toward a more active role - policing or medicine - or away from the whole shitty mess, also hard to say.

But you’re right. Like the presidency, it’s choice wise people don’t make any longer, to all of our detriment.

That’s certainly not me. And I wouldn’t want to be such a person.

All I asked was why there should be an increase in butch women.

@EmilyQ oh, yes. I also asked how that would benefit normal men.

Right, and I’m wondering why there should not be an increase in butch women and why it matters if it benefits ā€œnormal men,ā€ and who these men actually are.

I meant ā€œyou may wantā€ as a general ā€œyouā€ more than you specifically. Some men do. Why does that matter to anyone but themselves and their wives? Who decides what’s normal?

I know two people who do this. It has affected them.

I’m definitely no career counselor, but I wouldn’t do it.

How has it affected them?

I’ve had nothing but bad experiences with career or guidance counsellors

Most of them were nice people but completely useless at best.
Even my favourite one, a sweet lady at my former uni, was clueless. I met with her to confirm class registration (required) and she asked why I was taking so much maths if I wanted to do econ………

My least favourite one straight up lied and colluded with admin to try to get me expelled for a mental health issue

I’ve had many mentors and they are largely the reason I am where I am; however, all of them were teachers, professors or older students

Imho…99% of counselors have no clue

Its like it wore down their faith in humanity, and affected them at a spiritual level.

That better not happen to my sweet kid!

He had a couple of medical things happen at around age 13 that made me fear (seriously) that God was trying to take him away. Like, that he was such a good, good boy that I wouldn’t be allowed to have him.

It turned out ok, though, and he and his brother both have expunged felonies on their record, which probably makes him safe from being stolen for his utter goodness.

I need to get a few felonies, so I can run for congress.

I thought you do that in the reverse order.

You don’t get felonies once in.

 Damn! I’ve had the same fear with my son, then the heart stuff happened, then 2020 & onward, like Everything just got good and now I’m not going to be allowed to be around for it!
(Cue rage at the universe, god & all of creation).

It worked out though.

And I’d be willling to bet that he’s a great kid/guy.

Its wild, my interaction with police- Theres almost an immediate vibe that goes one of two ways. I either get ā€œOk, good dude, community oriented, etc.ā€ Or ā€œWe’re going to have a problem.ā€.

Exactly.

My procurement assistant was plucked from the local 911 operator pool several years ago. She was so good at listening, so good at paying attention to important details and so good at executing the important tasks that she’s no longer my assistant. She’s a full-fledged member of the production control team, with the same kind of broad WFH privileges enjoyed those of us who can get it done outside the office.

Edit: I also now understand the passive-aggressiveness I displayed by relentlessly hammering my over-arching point home in the way that I did. Thanks for both validating my theme as well as pointing that out.

And thank you for this!

Hot take: people who self-reflect are the best.

Sorry for the late response.

As you can see, I didn’t argue for there not to be. I simply asked why there should be because Brant’s hot take struck me as peculiar.
