Post-Workout 'Depression'

A “depression” is not the right word for me, fatigued is. After almost every workout I’m drained for an hour, even with carbs during training. I’ll just walk it off when going home, eat something and I’m good to go. The cause for me… busting my ass in the gym every time.

this used to happen me nearly everyday (except arms) i asked Christian about it and he said i should save one of my FINiBARS and eat it halfway through my workout, this helped alot.
When did these damn bars come out? I hadn’t heard of them till recently nor do I know anything about them but it seems like everyone is eating them now. I think my mom said “eating a FINiBAR!” on facebook, and like 10 people said they liked it. WTF?
My Uncle/Mentor in Weight Training, dead for 5 years now, came back to me in a dream and said to eat FiNiBars.

It’s pretty sweet. It’s got moss growing on top of it for that “rustic” feel. Plus I found a nice place to poop right nearby.

Kerley, you’re feckin’ killing me dude. Who is that chick?

Edit: Nevermind… used my Forum Ninja skills. Now I shall demonstrate the sound of one hand fapping…I mean…nevermind.

Endorphins. Read about them

Anyone else feel this way after working out sometimes?

I put depression in quotes because IMHO, most people regard depression as a miserable and maybe suicidal state of mind, which I do NOT feel.

I do however feel like just laying down and doing nothing, almost completely exhausted. It was legs day for me today, and i usually feel this way after legs day and Chest day. Sometimes back too.

Any ideas of the casues?

Poor pre-workout nutrition? I often feel light-headed, nauseous, and exhausted after a final balls-to-the-wall set, but it only lasts for a couple minutes. If you’re depleting your blood-sugar levels to the point of lethargy, I would suggest more quick carbs pre-workout.

Just read your training log and read that you’re dieting down. Sounds like your activity level is outrunning your energy supply. You could try adding a small amount of maltodextrin in your pre- shake and increasing it just until the lethargic feeling goes away. If your strength levels are dropping, I would definitely try this.

If your strength and mass are sticking around pretty well, I would just say congrats on the hard work. Accept it as a part of cutting.
Will try to add more acarbs around my PWO.

My set up looks likse this around my workouts:

PRE workout shake: 50g protein, 10g carbs, creatine, 10g glutamine

Sip a creatine/arginine mix during workout, 10g glutamine

Post workout shake: 50g protein, 10g carbs creatine

2 hrs later

200g baked potato

8oz beef, lean

You would do much better to take in those 200g of carbs para-workout and leave out the carbs before bed. Eat green veggies for your last meal instead.

I dunno man. I feel high as a fucking kite after lifting hard, especially on squat and deadlift day. You’re probably dying.
x2

If I go more than 2 days without lifting, I just don’t feel right.

The heavy iron is the perfect medicine.

I don’t wan’t to confuse you guys at all. it has nothing to do with me “not feeling right” the whole week. Just after legs day. My schedule is like this:

Mon: Shoulders Triceps
Tue: Quads Hams Calves (PWO Depression :frowning: )
Wed: Back Abs
Thu: Chest Traps
Fri: Biceps Abs
Sat: Off + Cardio
Sun: Off + Cardio

I do go completely balls to the wall on everything, just feel it more on legs day. I start out with 350 lb squats down to a 11 inch box for 4 sets of 4-6, the rest is cake after that.

you need more carbs, even if you’re dieting/contest prepping your carbs are low, way low.

pre-20-50g protein + bcaa’s or l-Lucine + 35-50+ g of WMS (carb) peri- 50+ carbs WMS + l-Lucine in Gatorade. add caffeine + arginine + vit C and D pre, allow the arginine to get in first on an relatively empty stomach. add creatine and beta-alanine pre as well. beta alanine should boost your endurance/strength.

PWO my carbs flux but likely it’s 50g+ of carbs and whey.

if my carbs were as low as yours i’d likely stay home.

Eat more.
Sleep more.

If the above does not work and your performance is decreasing, then take a few days off.

Very simple formula my friend.

Hey man,

Those are only the carbs around my workout. i have 3 MRP shakes a day with about 20g of carbs in each, 25g carbs from oatmeal in the morning, and lots of veg all day.

ok, point taken, however i’d still really recommend bumping up your carbs pre/peri/post and see how you feel. additionally the beta-alanine aids in endurance which may help.

Go have some gentlemens time. That should help with any sort of post-workout depression. Puts a smile on my face, thats for sure.

But seriously, rubbing one out should clear out whatever chemicals are in your head making you feel down, and replace them with a whole different set of chemicals, which make you feel a lot better. Like I said, works for me

Is there anything whacking off doesn’t cure?

Can’t sleep at night? Whack off and you’ll pass right out.
Nervous before a date or interview? Whack off and you’ll be calm as a Hindu cow.
Stressed out after a hard day at the office? Whack off and watch the stress melt away.
Frustrated because the hot 21 y/o girl sitting across from you on the train has some nice cleavage and you’re married. Whack off and and you can ditch the mental picture you took of her hours before.

…there’s more but I’ll leave it at that.

don’t take any days off…your body will adapt to it.

just make sure your eating enough (even alittle junk food to give u a spike) and get the sleep right. what exactly are you doing on your leg day to make you so depresed? If it’s a shitload of heavy triples, doubles etc. I can see that…but if your doing something like 4x6-8 on squats…I am not going to be happy with you lol.

All I can say is that I feel fucking amazing after I lift. The meal after, the shower after, and any activity or social activity I attend after, I feel like I’m on happy drugs, and from an endorphin standpoint I guess I am.

Haha, My leg day looks like this:

Squats: 4x 4-6 @ 350 lbs now down to a low box
Leg press: 16 plates and 2 quarters 2x 4-6
Stiff Leg Deadlift: @ 280 lbs 3x 4-6

Seated Calf raise: 2x 6 @ 6 plates
Leg press 1 leg calf raise @ 8 plates 2x6

Everything is really really heavy for me, which is the point. I don’t suffer mentally on any other day though, just legs.
