The proposed weight class changes would drop two classes from both the men and women. One of the critiques I’ve heard on occasion is that powerlifting has too many classes, my guess is it’s an attempt to address that. Also the new classes look to fall in line with olympic lifting.

I think the weight class changes are retarded. We aren’t weightlifting, I don’t know why we want to pretend to be weightlifting. And it ruins all the prior records. I also think the jump from 72 kilos to 84 kilos is too much. That’s a 26lb class jump. The current class jumps in that weight range are 17 lbs or so.

Shit, I need to do an IPF meet quick and try to set some obscure record so when they change the weights, no one will ever be able to beat it.

I don’t know how I would feel about it (assuming it went through). As far as the weightlifting thing goes I think O-lifting holds a certain “prestige” that powerlifting doens’t so I can understand the desire to be looked on in the same way. I don’t know if changing the weight classes would have that affect though.
As far as records…there are already so many different records; weight class, age class, different gear, differnt feds, ect. Is another set of them really going to matter?

“Well, she set that record, but it’s still not as impressive as so and so’s record, which was 50 lbs lighter, but she weighed 3 kilos less so it’s way more impressive.”

It separates us from our history.[/quote]
Any record earned today isn’t as good as a record from yesterday because the gear is better today…or the altitude was different…or it was during an El nino weather pattern…
PMPM- Your problem is you’re looking at this all wrong. You’re so focused on improving and beating records that your not seeing the opportunity to enter a meet on day 1 of the new system and records with every lift! Don’t pass up this opportunity for the sake of earning something!
So the Ipf wants to view anyone over 264 as a super heavy? Leave it to the IPF.Great ,then the USAPL will do the same since they are the IPF’s “Bitch”.
230lbs… next is 265… then everything heavier than that is one class…
Utterly retarded. Who came up with this shit?
The heavy guys already have maybe one class less than they should have imo (esp. since the lower weights usually have so many classes with too little difference in them)… And now this.
These are some of the topics that were up for vote on the recent IPF survey…just because these ideas exist doesn’t mean they’ll be passed. To think that these weight class changes would pass is obscure. The raw (why the *$@! do people capitalize it?) will happen eventually, I know in Canada/US we are already starting to implement it at the Provincial and National levels.
Your wording seems to make assumption that both of these proposals will be voted in, though the raw has good chance (and I’m all for it) the weight class changes likely do not.

To say the above is getting a little ahead of yourself. Its certainly not as simple as saying “it will be” and then someone saying “I’ll host them!”. It has to first be implemented on a Provincial and National scale in order for there to even be a World’s, not to mention the IPF first recognizing their definition of raw and all the other political red tape.
Look at the adverse reactions in this thread…probably could have been avoided. If you’re going to report the news then you’d do yourself best to be unbiased. I see proposals and amendments brought forth all the time that have no chance of getting voted in…there’s no sense in telling everyone that starting Jan.1st we’re all going to be deadlifting facing away from the bar…
Getting rid of the separation of the higher weight classes is fucking stupid.
265 isn’t even Rhodestown, fucking Matt Kroc weighs around 265, they want to make Matt Kroc a SHW?
275 is beast of a class, a lot of great lifters compete there, so they want to just say fuck them and throw them and throw Konstantin Konstantinov in with Jeff Lewis?
