Pretty interesting thread. For pec fat, I always assumed estrogen, is that correct? That area always seemed to get bad anytime I gained weight. I started taking Rez-V from Biotest, would you guys recommend anything else?
Besides that, I take the following in general:
Vitamin D 5K iu , 10K iu in winter
COQ10 200mg
Fish Oil 5g~ EPA/DHA
Vitamin C 3-4g 2x a day with meals
ZMA @ bedtime 30mg/450mg/15mg
Animal Flex 1 pack 2x day with meals[/quote]

Sorry, if I am posting this incorrectly but it looks like Tnation changed the forum format and it looks f-ing weird as shit on my screen.
Pec fat has been notoriously linked to aromatase enzymes. So Test is being stolen, cleaved and converted into estrogen. I don’t know what Charles has magically released since splitting from PGroup but this has always worked for my clients.
Usually you have to drop insulin low enough to support recovery and sleep but you definitely want to lower carbs.
Then: detox the liver so it can be ready to filter.
Then: Prep the gut, make sure youre getting some good fiber so if/when you do break up the estrogens they can leave the body.
Then: go on a supplement that is actually going to help with aromatase, not just estrogen. Hotdog is right zinc is foundational for that but there are some other natural supps that will work as well.
Just throwing 2cents in here.
Love handle is still almost always Insulin related, but since you mentioned lower back as well, which can be tied into gut health I think hotdog is on the right track.
I have a lot of “leaner” clients who have gut health issues and don’t respond well to insulin because they have abused it over the years. Yes, they are not packing on fat but it still causes inflammation and they body still decides to store it around the hips. Also, you can probably assume that it means gut absorption will also be low. Usually you can get on some good probiotics and digestive enzymes and then work on better carb timing and carb sources. I get a lot of leaner clients that because they are lean they add carbs to every meal and aren’t afraid of shitty carbs. Usually I supplement the GI supps mentioned above, then move the carbs to more cleaner/paleo sources usually postWOD and dinner. Once they start leaning out Ill add in Intra WOD Carbs, and keep Post wod and dinner. Then Pre, intra, post carbs and dinner. Then ReFeed meals. By the time I am doing intra wod carbs, their pants don’t fit.
Don’t know if anyone responded to you but yeah, there are protocols for mental health issues. I have PTSD and I have done stuff to help that as well as help other military clients.
That’s interdasting, as I actually have had a lot of digestion issues in the past. I’m on top of them now but seeing as I had them for like 30 years and have only fixed them for the last year or so I might still be recovering
I would suggest doing a little investigating into that then. I have had a lot of clients go perfect whole30/paleo with little results because gut health issues were present. Didn’t matter how clean they got they still needed to spend time actually healing the gut. I used to use an analogy like ‘putting your hand in the fire’ if you hand was in the fire for 30 years, it aint gonna heal in a few months. This is mostly due to stress and that the gut is constantly working. You can give the adrenals a break, you can take time off carbs and down regulate insulin, or cleanse a liver, shit you can even mend a thyroid, there is no time off for the gut really. Its constantly working, 24/7/365.
Glad to see you posting again, other than the obvious of cleaning up the diet, what sups, probiotics, or whatever is recommended to improve gut health ? My low back starts to lean out once I take Fenuplex w/ Insulinomics, but up to a point. Even after some hardcore low carb dieting, I still carry a fair amount in the low back/love handle area.
I know you mentioned that inflammation is a factor in this, what does the Master Blaster recommend ?
Hey Maxi! With diet I would even try spending 2-3 weeks cutting out things like broccoli, carrots or other foods that can cause allergies, just to take everything to a baseline.
Probiotics, there are a ton, jarrow is a decent store brand. I obviously use some of the poliquin stuff but their S.B. 1.0 has been doing awesome for several of my clients who have been having digestion problems for years. Other things can include: good fiber, (I use MediBulk, which I think Pgroup private labels) and load with enzymes. There is another fix that I am honestly completely blanking on but ill have to go through some notes to find. Literally cant think of it. Ill get back to ya.
I totally agree, it turned out that I’d had small intestine bacterial overgrowth for YEARS and it was totally fucking me over. Had a massive thread about it called "gut health - sort of a log:
It’s fixed now, and I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been, but I agree that it still probably needs to heal for longer
Have you checked out the “Stubborn Fat Solution?” A lot of people have had good results with this in that area, per the BR group. CT also ran a piece here on T-Nation a year or two ago with this own protocol to address trouble spots like that.
Oh! I think I remember that log. Yeah, there is still some stuff out there to do in my opinion. Right now, things that have been working specifically well for my clients is reevaluation of food allergies - mainly because once someone has digestive issues they will remove and ban certain foods, and when they do that, it makes the scope of their diet smaller (less variety) so they go super regular on the foods that don’t cause a problem, BUT they can even start to develop allergies to those foods - This isn’t a guess, I use labs for this including MRT testing. Its crazy. Broccoli right, great food, detoxifies estrogen, body building staple. So I have a client, been rocking Broc for years, do labs, high allergic. His system was just over the shit. Takes it out for a couple months, adds in back in, more labs, no allergies.
THis is where I like the paleo concept of food cycling: we didn’t have access to blueberries year round, so now we can eat them all the time, and for some peoples system they aren’t cool with that.
Anyone who has had bacteria over growth, that S.B. 1.0 has been working awesome for my clients. Ill use that and go through a cyclical elimination diet, where we take everything back to basics, and start adding in controlled and slowly, pain in the ass but works like a charm. Its either that or throw done $500-1k for an MRT test.
Great idea, I will add it to my regiment. I am also going to take Hip’s advice and try the SB 1.0 product, I will provide my feedback after taking the product for an adequate time.
Good info here. Quick question for anyone willing to answer-I tried Metagenics Fenugreek Plus and it was awesome. Really decreased the fat on my love handles/lower back. However, when I was done with the bottle, I ballooned back up. No change in diet or training during the entire time. Subsequent bottles have yielded little or no results. Any suggestions? Should I rotate into another supplement? Thanks!
