Plate Diameter Too Small

Hi, I have a problem with my plates. Well, they’re too small, I mean they outer diameter are about 35 - 40 cm (13,7" - 15,7"). Can I put other two plates under barbell to get proper height? I haven’t any wooden blocks.

You have three options:

  1. Get two regulation plates for your “inner layer”.
  2. Lift with your plates knowing that regulation height will probably yield a larger pull for you.
  3. Go buy some wood and build some blocks.

All of these scenarios are fine in the long run. Pick one and go!

Good luck.

Thanks for suggestions. Anyway is it ok if I just keep lifting with that 2" deficit? I don’t mind about that. Here is my deadlift PR on these plates and I felt good.

Yeah, keep doing it! That looked fine. I see no reason to change it.

Deadlift looks good. I have to say I would be more concerned with that bench behind you. That pad looks like its 8 inches wide. I’m not making fun of it but this is what caused me shoulder problems until I switched to a 11 or 12 inche wide pad. Also if you ever do switch to a normal size 45lb plates your deadlift will def go way up.

crowhater it’s true, this bench is too narrow even for me. This gym doesn’t have good equipment for serious lifters. I don’t even squat in squat rack but single bench racks. I hope I’ll lift in gym with platform, normal plates, squat rack and wider bench sometime.
