Physique Clinic discussion for Barti

Barti, WOW. The weight loss is fantastic. I know it can be difficult for you to notice and, as you said, you wish you had made more progress… but, REALLY, be proud, man. You’re doing unbelievably well.

Look forward to future progress pics. Goodluck with your knee.

Everyone, thanks for all the positive messages you have been leaving in this thread and PM’ing me. I means a lot to have the support of all of you. I keeps pushing me to make you all proud.

BTW, my name is Bartl. There is no ‘I’ on the end of my last name. Not sure how they butchered that one.

If you want, you can call me Chris as well.

Cool man!
Yeah, the progress is evident from the before/after shots. Awesome, shit. Keep it up!

Anyways, I haven’t seen the explanation for why Thibs/Shugs make Bartl measure his heart rate every morning? Could someone please explain why that is?

Ait, later,

M

Thibs talks about it in one of the other guys threads but I will ask him to explain in mine.

I am going to start something new in this thread. Since we all like to rock out when we train, what I am going to do is post the top songs from each training session.

Let me preface it with this: On my iPod, I have over 6300 songs. What I do is put it on random and just let it go. This might seem unorthodox, but I don’t care. When you get your own thread you can do whatever you want.

Today, I picked a musical genre, which I’m sure you will figure out once you start to see the artists.

Now, I am not going to pick every song, just the ones that really kicked ass today. It could be one song, it could be 20 songs.

I will list it by artist, song and album.

Here we go:

Tool - Jambi – 10,000 days
Metallica - Welcome Home (Santitarium) – Master of Puppets
Tool - Bottom – Undertow
Metallica - Of Wolf and Man – Metallica
Rage Against the Machine - Freedom – Rage Against the Machine
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden – Rock in Rio, disk 2
Probot - Shake Your Blood – Probot
Rage Against the Machine – Bullet in the Head

At the end of this, I am hoping to have the ultimate training soundtrack.

Wow, good work here. I’m on the Velocity Diet. At first losing fat is annoying because it never seems to melt from where you really want it to… you know, the gut! First thing that happened with me is my arms, legs and face started leaning out. That’s great, but what about my stupid belly?

I guess fat is on the seniority system. The belly fat usually has been there the longest, so it’s the last to go!

I am feeling your pain here. I had a friend make a comment that my face has gotten a lot smaller but I’m thinking…what about my belly? What makes things worse, is my cardio is down because of the knee injury and I know that is where the majority of my fat will get burned.[/quote]

Whoa, man! The side-by-side pics tell the tale! Can’t you see it? If it weren’t for the tattoo, I’m not sure I’d know if it was the same guy!

Sucks about the knee, but good work in spite of it! I know it’s harder for you to see it as well as other people can, that’s just natural.

Oh, and I know it’s kind of stupid, but I like Chumbawumba’s “Tubthumping” (I get knocked down, but I get up again…) as a motivational tune on my iPod.

bizarre had a goal to look like Coach Thibs but after lookin at your side pic Chris, I think you might end up looking like Vin Diesel, I mean Coach CT instead!

Keep up the awesome progress Bro! You are gonna be a beast after this is all said and done!

Hey Bart -
Just wanted to drop in and add my voice of support. Yours is the physique I identify with most - at least for now… I have a feeling that after you lose a bit more of the fat your “meso tendencies” are gonna surface and you’ll be off and running.

Kudos for the work in general, and in particular for working through the setbacks.

Wasn’t sure what the photo update would reveal, but damn, you should be pleased (and motivated) by the results.

Eggs and celery? You are in this for real

Ever forward!
Don

Bartl!

I just saw Thibs adding details for why you do the HR etc in the morning. Very cool, thanks for doing that!

I really hope the T-Nation guys make sure to archive your threads - they are really full of high quality content and there is so much to learn from them and each transformation!

Ok, rock on dude!

Good song indeed, it just makes me want to drink and pick a fight though.

I could just be a shorter version of both but way better looking.

Thanks for the message Gus, I’ll keep rockin if you keep rollin!

Ya, the eggs and celery are getting tough to eat thats for sure.

The pictures are motivating, especially the fat ones because I know where I am coming from and in my head I know where I want to end up.

Onward and upward!

No worries on the HR thing, it was actually very cool to learn that. As for archiving the threads, I’m sure they will just because there is way to much information going on here not to want to share it with future generations of Nation members.

Get out your spreadsheets, because here is some kick ass rock music for you:

The Weakerthans - One Great City - Reconstruction Site
MxPX - New York to Nowhere - Life In General
Joe Strummmer and the Mescaleros - Get Down Moses - Streetcore
The Lillingtons - Target Earth - The Too Late Show
Lagwagon - The Contortionist - Resolve
No Motiv - Into The Darkness - Daylight Breaking

Get your rock on.

Here are a couple to add from my walk that are good ones:

Hateful Monday - Go Away - The Last March of the Ignorants
Thrice - Hold Fast Hope - Vheissu

How’s the knee? What did the specialist say?

Injury is the pits man – it is so easy to regress and fall back into old habits.

One Christmas I tore a muscle in my back and had to stay horizontal for 4 days. Family members kept bringing me cookies and pie to “cheer me up.” My father-in-law told me that at least now I could lay around and drink all day (meaning booze). I ended up taking 2 days off from the diet, and had 4 glasses of wine on New Years (I think it actually helped by back by relaxing the muscles) – but once I was up I went right back on on the diet – and my progress continued from where I was at before the injury. Albeit progress slowed as I couldn’t work out as hard until the back came back – but by staying on the diet I didn’t regress.

A silver lining for me was that a physical therapist found a deficiency in muscle strength in one particular set of muscles that likely contributed to my injury – and he suggested ways to strengthen those muscles to decrease injury. That was cool. Until then I was a bit close minded about what a physical therapist could really contribute to my overall workouts.

I see a specialist next week and hopefully I can at least start walking on it by then. Until I get the go ahead, my gym has one of those sit down cardio machines for disabled people, where you move your arms in circles and can increase the tension.

I got the go ahead to start talking longer walks and start adding in some light tension bike rides for the knee, so that is very good news.

As for the PT, my dad is one and I have seen the wonders of what they can do for people my whole life. The stuff they can do is amazing (if you have a good one) and I will always be a firm believer in physical therapy.

Cardio tunage for the day:

Rancid - As Wicked - …And Out Come the Wolves
Pennywise - Date With Destiny - Full Circle

Pretty disappointed in my iPod the last two days, tons of songs but only 2-3 that really stick out.

Ok. I need to squash this before it really picks up steam.

For those of you out there in T-Nation land, please stop asking me to email you my diet and training plan because I will not and cannot do it. Out of the respect I have for my coaches who are doing this in their spare time, I won’t just arbitrarily send out a program.

I post in my thread what I am lifting and what I am eating, so do your research in my thread and you will find what you need.

Thanks
