Thanks for the words of encouragement. I feel that things are progressing quite nicely now and I am super fired up for the next phase of the diet and the new training sessions that start next week when I get back down to California!
Wait till you see what he has me doing for my training…holy *%$!. Just makes me laugh.
Just wanted to say that im gutted for you hearing about your MCL tear, grade 2 or 3 isnt good but fuck that, its just another obstacle in your way to achieve your goals and u need to keep your chin up and keep fighting.
The diet needs to be stricter than ever now dude and its gonna be harder! One good use for a gym ball during this time is to sit on one while watching TV or if ur sitting down for long periods with this knee! I have my patients do it to keep there muscles working that bit harder and avoid bad posture and getting flappy from lazing round!
As one of the athletes in DeFranco’s new documentary trailer said, DONT EVER STOP, JUST KEEP ON GOING!!PLenty more ways to do ur one hour cardio sessions, them hand machines where u keep turning, pullin on a rope. Best thing about this situation is everyone here is behind you and you have got one of the best coaches in the world!
Hes really gonna be earning his bacon now and ive no doubt hel come up trumps for you dude!
I super disapointed about this whole injury!!! Even with the hurt knee I say keep on training buddy, just go easy on the knee. Though I haven’t messaged on this board I’ve been following you Mr.Bartl and I’m real interested in seeing some pics.
I’ve got a buddy who is in similar shape to yourself, though you are much stronger. He weighs about 250 pounds right now, and I’ve shown him your physique clinic info and such. Anyhow he’s been losing weight over the past month, coming to the gym with me…
Anyhow I hope that you will find away to rise above this injury and continue!!!
Well, Thibs has decided that I have earned the opprotunity to continue in the program despite the knee injury. I am extremely grateful by his decision and it actually makes me more motivated to want to follow the diet and train my butt off in the gym.
I see a specialist next week and hopefully I can at least start walking on it by then. Until I get the go ahead, my gym has one of those sit down cardio machines for disabled people, where you move your arms in circles and can increase the tension.
That will be my new best friend…besides Thibs for not kicking me out.
I really find the psychology of what Chris is saying about looking down on those who do not posses the qualities that we see fit for ourselves interesting. I look at fat buggers and I have a similar feeling, that they are a little stupid. I go to Walmart and I have an intense white trash flash and can’t even stand being there, it depresses me.
I no longer often teach but when I was teaching I often used the “you are better than others, you must strive to be better than others” approach. Encouraging students to compete with each other, out do each other, and in general be the best that they could be. I agree with this.
I agree it’s good to label behaviors in others as good, bad, lazy, disgusting (the same behaviors we repress and control in ourselves)… Generally the behaviors that we most strongly need to repress in ourselves are the behaviors that when seen in others will cause the strongest emotions in ourselves. We also must temper those emotions of disgust with empathy, and remember that a behavior is not a person.
Taken to the fullest extent repressed emotions and behaviors are responsible for most hate crimes, if not tempered with pity and caring. The muslims repress sexuality so make enemies with overly sexualized societies, people insecure about sexuality are often the most vocal against homo-sexuals, hard core christians who repress natural sexuality are often the first to judge others and take action.
I agree with what Chris is saying, though I would add the air of superiority must be tempered with empathy.

Wow, good work here. I’m on the Velocity Diet. At first losing fat is annoying because it never seems to melt from where you really want it to… you know, the gut! First thing that happened with me is my arms, legs and face started leaning out. That’s great, but what about my stupid belly?
I guess fat is on the seniority system. The belly fat usually has been there the longest, so it’s the last to go! :)[/quote]
I am feeling your pain here. I had a friend make a comment that my face has gotten a lot smaller but I’m thinking…what about my belly? What makes things worse, is my cardio is down because of the knee injury and I know that is where the majority of my fat will get burned.
I’ve been finding that out of all the things I eat during the day, the one that is becoming the hardest to eat is the eggs and celery. Some day’s it feels like I am just shoveling the food in as fast as I can because if not, I won’t eat it. Not sure why of all the things I’ve been eating its the eggs that are a struggle.
Other than a hand bike, does anyone have any suggestions for cardio that is not hard on the knee? I’m starting to go a little more crazy without doing cardio and I need to be doing something.
Swimming would really take the pressure off your joints if you can find a pool in your area.
Continue the great work Bartl. I’ve been following the PC and I’m totally impressed with your committment. Stay pissed - it’s amazing what a little aggression can do to maintain your motivation.
Just wanted to drop in a ‘Thank you’ post here as well. Given your knee issues, I’ll be watching closely to see how things go. Fingers crossed for you that you can get back into leg weights in time to go for it with the triathalon.
Saw the pics and you look thinner. I was actually really surprised that the difference would be so noticeable so quickly! Great job, keep it up! Oh, and I really like when you have pictures in your posts, nice addition!

Yeah - the difference in the face is huge. He’s gone from “chubby looking” to “mean looking”… losing the fat from under the chin makes a HUGE difference.

Thanks. I see a difference in the pictures but to me it isnt’ that much. The real difference is how I feel when I put on clothes. I have to nocth the belt tighter, pants are looser, shirts baggier etc…
I will keep up with the pictures to. I will try and get some of me at the gym today.
