Bartl, you are BY FAR the most entertaining, hilarious post-er on the PC. All are good, and of course Gus has done great work, too–but he almost comes across as too “P.C.”. Then we all feel for Neya, and her ongoing “soap opera” (probably some sh*t coming to me for that comment).
Okay, if I am opinionated–even a “Smart Ass Mother Trucker”–give me a break–I am 47, been through a few versions of a lot of these things in life, too.
Your story is AMAZING–I wish a lot of my friends and neighbors–outwardly “successful” people with alcohol, drug, and-or marital problems–would read your story on T-Nation.
Keep up the hilarity. And most of all–the inspiring work!!!

Hey Rick, Thanks a lot man, it means a lot when I get comments like those. Maybe if I can get this article published you can just hand that to them. Sometimes thats all it takes.
And there is nothing wrong with being opinionated or a smart-ass. If you’ve made it to 47, why stop now?
The very first ever clear pix of your wheels are excellent. I’m impressed by your calves and quads. It’s stunning, really. Congratulations on that. You do not fail to inspire.
You’ve spoken about the challenges of what it took to get you this far - but, what do you think it’s gonna take to maintain? Your lifestyle of sub-optimal choices before may have put you in a position as the equivalent of a “recovering alcoholic”, but with food. It may be easy to fall off the wagon when you don’t have a couple hundred thousand goofballs like me reading your stuff every day, and when you don’t have the daily evaluation of those two awesome professional Chris’s.
Do you have any concerns about how you’ll fare after you’ve reached your goal and the pressure’s off? It’d scare the hell out of me!!

I actually think about it all the time. The good thing about this program was that a lot of the food I used to eat just doesn’t sound appealing to me anymore. I mean, there are things I can’t wait to have, like a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and cheese. But stuff like the fried foods and breads just don’t sound good, plus I know what it can make me look like so I am afraid to eat them a little.
I still plan on trying to eat as well as I can and have one cheat day, yes I said day. I am just going to take all that I have learned from Thibs and Shugs regarding nutrition and try and make it happen.
I think this has grown into one of my greatest fears. The few times I’ve had pizza, fast food etc in the past six months, I feel like death the next few hours and it freaks me out that I’m going to get fat again if I just fall off the course.
Then I get right back on and all is well.
I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get this out of my mind. My dad still works out 6 days a week at 60, I hope I can do that.

This is one aspect where I think the clinic has done its job just not gotten all the publicity. The way they, for lack of a better term, “detoxed” my body of all the shit I had in it and for not allowing me to eat anything that wasn’t healthy, had a monstrous impact on how I will live my life.
I think of it now as, I would rather wait and be hungry for another hour or so instead of eating something that wasn’t good for my body. I’m sure I will have a couple vices like chips and the occasional sandwich but nothing like before where I could have a double double In and Out burger with monster fries (chili and cheese on top)
I was bored in class so I read through the first pages of your Clinic. You mentioned you were active due to a 45 minute walk outside and I started to laugh.
You now bike more miles than you walked in minutes.

Well, Bartl, you’ll fit right in with the triathlon community since you already shave your legs, at least that’s what it looks like in the pics. Apparently it really does help the medics clean up the road rash if you ever take a spill on the bike. I’ve always said that I would never shave, but I must admit that I’m kind of curious…

Let me clarify…I TRIMMED my body. Start at the feet and don’t stop until you run out of places to shave as you go up your body. I don’t think I could ever straight razor my legs or any other part of my body. It took me a while to talk myself into doing my arms.
I’m also quite curious about hair removal, as I have a rich orangutan heritage. when you say trim, you mean just run a set of clippers over it or what? forgive me if I seem a little slow in the subject.

I’m thinking “trim” = clippers with a #1 guard. That’s what it means in my house, anyway.

Depends on the area of the body. For my legs up to my hips and my lower arms (elbows to wrists), yes with a 1/8" guard or #1. For my chest, back and upper arms I go with no guard at all to get it real close.
Good f***ing work man! I just read through your entire Clinic and am thoroughly impressed. By the way nice new pics… your abs are starting to show. Keep killing it!

I’m stoked about the abs. The pictures don’t really do it much justice as I think they look better live than in the picture. Same with my shoulders, you can see a lot more definition in my shoulders live than in the picture.
