Physique Clinic discussion for Barti

Hey Bartl,

How is it all going for you? I have started a similar approach to you, regarding training method. It is bloody hard work ey…Incorporating the metabolic work into heavy sessions really hurt!!! Doing 2 muscle groups a session takes a bit more time than I have, + have to add cardio after the session.

Next week, I will complete 5 days, Legs, Chest, Off, Back, Delts, Off, Arms. Should work well I hope. Dropping the fat get mentally draining too…I have been overthinking everthing I do, so much so that I forgot some of the basics!

Good luck bro, you doing great!!!

Barti-

I just spent the last 2.5 nights reading your whole Physique Clinic and just finished this thread.

Wow.

I’ve been really focused on gustavopacho’s Physique Clinic because that’s where I am. However, I was you just over a year ago with some differences.

36, fat as a kid, moderately chubby in HS, former hockey player and rower in college, so fit for a few years, married with two kids under 6, software developer (read sits all day), and ballooned to a whopping 242 at 5’9".

It took high cholesterol, a Lipitor prescription and a fat-ass work photo to re-flip the switch.

I lost 60 lbs in 6 months-- I could only have wished to have the PC coaches that you have-- and you are kicking ASS!!

I stalled for about half of last year because of a disc injury (and gained back some fat), which I’m still recovering from, but short of it is I’m down to 190 @ 16-17 BF with a goal of single digits (will start full strict V-Diet soon).

I have the utmost respect for you and the dedication you have to do this so quickly-- just AWESOME!!!

ROCK ON!

Question: Do you have any video or photo links to the high-speed metabolic band training that you’re doing?
Right on man, thanks.

As for the video or photo, I don’t have any specifically for me, just the ones that Thibs sent me in my training program. I can try and pull them off of there for everyone.

Hey man, thanks checking in. Things are progressing nicely. Of course I would like to be further along on the fat loss process but I think I’ve done pretty good so far. Just got my eye’s fixated on 190 by the end of April, so about 14 more weeks to go!

14 weeks is plenty of time…You are gonna look crazy in 14 weeks, no 2 ways about it!! Especailly given that you have such great coaches assisting you along the way. Saves alot of time, apposed to time wasted making mistakes on your own.

I can’t wait. As for waisting time and making mistakes, all you need to do is look at my original picture…enough said.

I had a quick question about tempo.
"A1) Medium Grip Bench – Reps: 9,7,5,9,7,5
90 seconds rest, 3-0-1-0 tempo "
I took this from your thread, I assumed it meant 3 seconds to lift, no rest at the top, 1 second to lower and no rest at the bottom. But then I was reading somewhere else that it meant 4 seconds to lower and 1 second to lift… which is true?
The first number is the eccentric phase, second number is the pause between the eccentric and concentric, third number is the concentric phase, and fourth number is the pause at the end of the concentric portion.

You cannot say that the first number is the “lifting” portion or the “lowering” portion because it depends on the movement.

Technicality.

I always used to think of it like this. For any push movement, most often than not, you will start with your arms extended. Well, eccentric or the first number is when you bend your arms and let the weight come down. Same goes for squats, when you sit down is the eccentric motion. For the back its opposite, when you are extending your arms.

It does also depend on the movement, like in a dead lift you start down and your first movement is up, but you have to go back down again. Going down again is the eccentric motion.

Dude, just checked you current stats and you are progressing at an amazing rate ey!! Good work…Also, seen the change in physique certainly keeps you motivated doesn’t it. I noticed that you are dropping alot of weight fat. Just curious…the “GENERAL” rule is 1-2lbs yeah…CT or Shugs shed any light on this? Oh well, you in the best hands, so not a worry there ey.

The side by side views definitely help me see that I am progressing but the true motivator is the picture I have in my head of what I will look like come May 1 when I’m at 190 lbs.

So lets hope that I can keep up the 2 lbs / week minimum fat loss for the next 12 weeks so I can be there.

I also can’t wait to start training for the triathlon. I have a feeling I will drop some serious fat during that phase as well.

That 2lbs/week rule has been invented by nutritionists who use the lousy FDA food pyramid to design diets. This means that they stick to a super high carb diet; the only way to lose a lot of fat on these kinds of diets is to starve yourself. The protein intake is so low that it’s easy to lose muscle mass. In fact, several studies have found that with a high carb, lowish protein diet, you will lose as much muscle as fat! That’s why they say “no more than 2lbs per week” … to avoid muscle loss.

With a ketogenic diet the same rules don’t apply as the high protein and fat intake prevents muscle loss and increase the reliance on fat for fuel.

I had a feeling that this was going to be the response…High fat/high protein helping with fat loss AND muscle preservation… Because I had lost more than a lb a week for a while, whilst keeping/gaining strength.

You’re in the process of making fat loss your bitch Bartle.

Its like watching Thibs old mutation, you even have the same haircut as him at the end of it.

Keep up the hard work, youre doing a heck of a job.

thanks JB. I did see a picture of Thibs before he started with hair…trust me, if you think he looked funny with hair, you should see me. I have the worst receeding hair line and the top of my head looks like an alien crop circle.

To me your the most dedicated out of the four, least cheat meals, worked around injury and you haven’t missed a workout. And your still hungy to lose more weight. keep it going man

Thanks Drewh. I think I have the most to prove to people. I think when people saw those first pictures they didn’t really believe that I would last this long. That I would have quit.

I’m just having fun with it. I want that goal of 190 lbs.

Bartl, Deloused in The Comatorium is an amazing album. I liked Frances the Mute too, but The latest, Amputechture didn’t really do much for me.

Anyways, keep it up. Your progress is excellent.

They actually have another new album. Not sure if its out yet or coming out. A friend of mine has it and here is what he said about it…

“The Mars Volta have officially done too many drugs for me.”

I personally like the trippy stuff, then again one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums of all time is Ummagumma.

So I went and picked up that album today…your friend is rigth about the too many drugs thing.

Those pepper flakes are pure awesomeness. Since I discovered them a few months ago I have been using them on/in everything. They’ll make anything taste delicious, no matter how crap it tastes alone. Definitely a godsend for dieters eating bland stuff.

Oh… alright thanks… damn for the bench press I did 4 seconds raising it instead of lowering… oh well
That has it’s benefits too, so its not like you did anything wrong, just backwards.
