Hello All,
Last month I underwent surgery to my cervical spine. My surgeon prescribed rehab, so I am currently trying to find a physical therapist in Southern CA who understands and works with the athletically inclined and those interested in strength training. Has anyone worked with a physical therapist in or around Los Angeles they found helpful for someone trying to return to strength training after a cervical spine surgery?
My goal is to eventually resume the training intensity and regain the strength I had prior to the surgery. I train strength/conditioning usually 4-5 days/week. I’m also an avid snowboarder and surfer. Ideally, my physical therapist would have some understanding of strength training (squat, deadlift, overhead press) and Olympic movements so they can identify my poor technique issues that might create further cervical spine problems.
The cervical damage was apparently cumulative, with no identifiable “inciting incident.”
My surgery was 14 February 2012. I had a discectomy and fusion in C4-C5, and a partial discectomy in C6-C7. Additional work was done on the nerve openings in both areas to relieve spinal stenosis and/or foraminal narrowing. (I hope that explanation makes sense, I’m still a little foggy on the anatomical details of the surgical procedure)
Thanks in advance for your suggestions, or even taking the time to read my post.
