I think Heath has deserved his 4 gongs, some were line ball but that’s the nature of competition at the most elite level. Olympia also has the “knock out the champ” aspect to it.

It was probably that bit of mongrel that got him the 2012 Olympia in the end and I think there has been a marked difference in him since that. If making it him against the world drives him, more power to him - Jay is not exactly reaping the rewards of being the likeable champ.
I’m not denying Heath his 4 wins. Definitely deserved. I just expect a champ to display certain traits, on and off the field.
Imagine Dorian Yates acting like Phil does.
That would be hilarious! I would actually pay money to see Dorian act like Phil in the video above.
I’m ready for a new Mr. O. As much as Phil has been deserving, largely because others have missed the mark in conditioning. I’d like to see an underdog show up and blow the rest of the field away. That would be awesome.
The only time that has happened was when Dexter beat Jay, it’s going to play out like it always does. Phil will keep winning until Ramy is clearly better (and his English has improved) - probably 3 years, they’ll give Phil that final win and the following year when Ramy blows him out of the water, Ramy will be champ.

The Olympia is less a contest than an exhibition.

For me I would say Wolf is next in line if comes in shredded. -He’s blonde, white, won’t bite the hand that feeds him, doesn’t swear and hasn’t raped any fruit.
If Ramy comes in full and with conditioning that rivals or beats Phil’s, he is already better. I dont think it will happen this year though.

I’d say the same about Wolf. I think Phil regressed to a small degree in the last 2 Olympia’s and if Wolf nails his conditioning, he could get the nod. Same with Rhoden.
Dem Calves though!
His calves arent bad, they just arent a strong point, and it’s exaggerated because of how massive his quads are. Besides, judges dont seem to place too much emphasis on calf development or Dennis Wolf would never be a contender

Definitely a possibility.

Phil has unquestionably regressed the last two years. THeres a Pic online showing his Olympia pics side by side and it’s very obvious. If the powers that be in the IFBB realize that the general audience (fans) are well aware of his situation, along with what seems to be a serious contingent of fans who really don’t like the guy, they just might go along with not doing him any favors on game day.

I agree that he has regressed, and I do not like him but I still think he was better than the others. That is what matters, if Kai looked better, or anyone else I would want them to win.

I do not agree with the idea that the fact someone has improved or gotten worse they should get a lower or higher placement because of it. Only if they have gotten better or worse than those against whom they are competing.

Agree

Have you guys seen this? What are your thoughts on Yate’s opinions about Arnold?

Yates’ opinions are his own. Much of it is based on his own associations with Mentzer, so of course he’s at odds with Arnold.
At the end of the day, it’s about what the sport was derived from and built on, and those are the very things Arnold would like returned to the sport.

his opinions on the holocaust are way more disturbing

What are his opinions on the holocaust? (with source)

I am a big fan of Yates, but I know his opinions on religion are pretty wacky too.

Agree

Mentzer wasn’t the only one pissed about that 80’ olympia. Boyer Coe and Frank Zane were furious as well since they were all at the top of their game at the time. All 3 of them boycotted the 81’ olympia with an arguably lesser physique as Columbu winning his 2nd Sandow. Again friends with promoters and judges. It was some sour times during those few years until Lee Haney started dominating.

I will say that Arnold was an arrogant champion. But funny at the same time so it was tolerable/likable. Do I think he cared who won the Olympia after his reign? I think he cared to an extent. As far as he was considered, and others rarely argue, bodybuilding would have not gotten to where it is or was in the 90s if he hadn’t done all the things he’s done for the sport. How could he not?

I like Yates. He’s always held himself as a champion well. Some of his views and opinions are a bit out there at times though.

EDIT: plus like he said, he didn’t know Arnold that well and vice versa. He hung around a crowd who obviously didn’t have the greatest things to say about him so his opinion would most likely be a very biased one at that IMO.

Please do share!

Yates posted an article denying the holocaust happened at all on his facebook wall. I will not be linking it, but it definitely exists. Yates commented on it saying ‘most history is a lie…’

Knowing Yates, I figured he was one of those in denial about it. Haha

That’s horrible. It’s good I only admire him for his bodybuilding accomplishments.

Coleman proved that. Dorian is clearly intelligent. But ever since he did that whole drug trip down in Brazil he’s gone wacky.

Lee Priest on Phil’s comments about Arnold. Glad to see he agrees with most of the members who were apart of this thread, including myself.

Just to add fuel to the fire. Phil Heath is a quarter squatter:

If I haven’t done that right, it starts at 08:45

Actually, I’m surprised at just how awful his mobility is. You can see his lower back rounding even with that little depth

GASP! The fiend! This is how real super villains start out. Does anyone believe Bane squats to depth?

arnold thighs and hams were cut . but lacked mass for his upperbody . his calves were among the greatest ever

arnold got great calves even better looking than those of dorian . . nubret had weak legs not the oak.
