I’m very glad to hear that Phil has done it at last, although sadly in a diminished field. I had thought his window of opportunity was gone. I would have liked to have seen him beat a “full house” so to speak with Savickas and some of the big boys who no longer compete in the WSM, but beating Pudzianowski is an amazing achievement-- he’s certainly in the top two in the world at the moment.
I think people get on Phil too much about that infamous Hercules Hold outburst. I actually think it has a lot to do with him being an American. Strongman fans from Europe and elsewhere somehow manage to affectionately remember Sigmarsson’s ridiculous behavior, or more recently Fat Bastard lookalike Glen Ross shouting “who’s the Daddy?” but those same people make fun of Pfister. I’m not saying it wasn’t silly, just that I’ve noticed a double standard on some strength forums.
Although it’s funny, with how overwhelmingly American this board is, I agree that if someone had said “that American prick” people would have been all over him. Persnally, I don’t understand the fixation on nationality.

I thought an American prick did win. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Mariusz isn’t a prick, if he said he was busy, he might have been, he is sponsored by MET-RX and they sponsored the Arnold, he might of had to do some promotional material. Also the Arnold was a big let down for him, that circus dumbell caused him to crash from 3rd to 6th. He was probably in a bad mood from that too. Mariusz also took the loss from WSM this year in stride and said he underestimated Pfister, but he won’t stop until he wins 5 titles.
Pfister is one guy to have been blamed for running his mouth on too many occasions to count. I met him personally in 2001 and I felt that certainly was justified but I never took it personally, if he brings the goods, than who am I to judge. He used to avoid gym training, but his training with Siders has helped him fix his weaknesses (deadlifting and pressing). I’m happy someone from the north american continent got to win it, it will be good publicity. His hands ae very freakish and I suggest that anyone who ever meets him, should shake his hand to get an idea how monstrous they are. That trait certainly is a heavenly gift when it comes to this sport.
Yeah, they don’t call him “Frightening Fingers Pfister” for nothing. The guy owns the Farmer’s walk and the Hercules Hold. Amazing hands.

We are pricks. Who cares. Didn’t Charles Barkley once bitch about being considered a role model??? We put our athletes on pedastals and expect them to react acorrdingly. If they don’t, we think they’re pricks. They don’t put themselves up there.
On a lighter note, I’m totally stoked that Pfister won it. I met him years ago in Ohio at one of the Dino Days and he was a totally cool guy.

I think he shouldn’t be expected to be nice because he’s not judged in competition for how nice he is. It’s about strength. Obviously in an ideal world he’d be the sorta guy that would sit down and read a book to grandma while drinking tea but we don’t live in an ideal world
He’s one of the worlds strongest human beings all round and that’s all I expect of him.
You have extremely low and extremely shallow expectations of people. By your logic, a professional strongman shouldn’t be expected not to murder people…he shouldn’t only be expected to be strong.[/quote]
There’s a differnece in expecting someone to be polite and not expecting someone to hack you to pieces just for saying hello to them.

…and you expect NEITHER of those based on your logic, all you expect is for him to be strong. Maybe you should have qualified your original statement.

Americans are dicks. But you being Canadian are a pussy(along with most of Western Europe). And yes, you get “mad” and “offended”, because pussies get fucked by dicks.
But you have to remember, that dicks also fuck assholes. And if the dicks didnt fuck the assholes you Canadian pussy; we would have both our dicks and our pussies covered in shit. So although we dicks run around fucking everything without thinking it through, we have our place.
Your welcome.
I forgot how weak a lot of liberal Americans had gotten, … oh well thanks for reminding me in this thread.

Wow. First nickels is a complete ass for missing my sarcasm. I thought hahahah was enough. It was harmless anyhow. What is your problem? Where did your shit come from? I assure you I am not a pussy and Canadian are not pussys. You are an asshole however. The US can only continue borrowing money to fund the empire for so long.Good luck .

I did qualify it… 2nd page, 10th post “I think he shouldn’t be expected to be nice because he’s not judged in competition for how nice he is. It’s about strength.”
Why are we arguing over whether the world’s 2nd strongest man is nice or not anyway?
A man is a man regardless of what country he hails as long as he carries himself with principle. Be that honor, integreity, intellegence, fortitude, what have you. Marius has carried himself well on the international stage and deserves the respect he has earned. Phil worked hard to now have first, do not bash people in competition thats ignorant.

you wrote a few extremely “smart” things in this post before, but
the above statememt just says it all!
Remember to take your doctor’s prescription tomorrow morning, it surely helps!
Phil has one of the best pornstar names.

Agreed. Don’t knock what you haven’t tried yet. It’s one of the most, if not the most physically demanding sports there is.
There’s an article about Pfister on the NYTimes website:
Pretty cool.
