I know this is gonna piss people off but here goes anyway…
First off let me congratulate Phil.
Second… Who are any of you to judge one of the strongest men in the world?? I’m pretty sure marius doesn’t pretend to hold himself up to be some amazing role model that kids should aspire to be like… He’s one of the strongest guys in the world, it’s what he does. Who cares if he isn’t the perfect gentleman whilst he’s doing it.
I think strongman and PL are unlike most pro sports in that you shouldn’t expect the top guys to be gentlemen. I really doubt that any elite PL or strongman are in it for the fame and notority and because of this they shouldn’t be expected to be as “nice” as an NFL or NBA guy.

Yes, he should be expected to be nice, as should anyone. He’s got an attitude and he also wasn’t very nice when he got drunk and drove his car…hurting people in the end.

What the fuck does that have to do with anything?
He did time for that, its way in the past.
Hes a strongman that could be a great one day. His attitude seems ok on some private footage ive seen of him and you can only judge by your own experience i think.
Anyway, well dont to terry hollands from the UK. 7th in your second year of strongman is excellent.

I think it has a lot to do with it. It just shows that people will always find another excuse not to like someone if they’ve already made up their mind.
Bulletproof, let me ask you this, why should he be expected to be nice?

Was it 2001 when he predicted a win while holding the Pillars of Strength? Phil is the freakin’ MAN! I can’t wait to watch the competition around the new year.

You know that was the first thing I thought of too. He did it. Glad to see it coming back here.

That was the most embarasing display I have ever seen in sports. I say that because I thought Phil looked and sounded ridiculous when he said it. Good for him to finally win. I guess it was a good motivator.
I would never have thought the polish guy could ever lose. I can’t wait to see it on tv.

I was being tongue-in-cheek, but I thought my point was clear. Let me answer your question with a question. Why shouldn’t he be expected to be nice?

I think he shouldn’t be expected to be nice because he’s not judged in competition for how nice he is. It’s about strength. Obviously in an ideal world he’d be the sorta guy that would sit down and read a book to grandma while drinking tea but we don’t live in an ideal world
He’s one of the worlds strongest human beings all round and that’s all I expect of him.

What difference does any of that make?
If a guy is a prick he is a prick.
I don’t know enough about him to say either way.[/quote]
To clarify myself. I did not know anyone still found the term “prick” offensive. I thought it was in the same category as “I am rubber your glue” and “bonehead”.

You have extremely low and extremely shallow expectations of people. By your logic, a professional strongman shouldn’t be expected not to murder people…he shouldn’t only be expected to be strong.
The simple fact is that if someone had said, “oh, that American prick won this year,” you would immediately have a brigade of rednecks screaming “USA, USA!” and rallying to his defense, so don’t question why a Pole would do the same thing. No fucking wonder the whole world thinks Americans are a bunch of self-centered idiots…
