Pch2's Adventures

Damn Wol, I’ve never seen game like that.

So you’re an asthmatic trumpet player? That must be interesting.

I succumbed to peer pressure. I get a lot of shit for being a geeky girl that dates ‘meatheads.’ I have yet to call him back though, ugh.

I haven’t had any need for an inhaler since I was ten. The back-pressure from playing brass helps overcome that. Now I have great stamina, with fingers and a tongue that work quickly in perfect synchronization.

Just you watch. My next victim will be none other than: Pch2. Watch me get the digits fellas.

You should come to Cleveland! I’ll take you to class and promise to mount you.
I’m there. And when you’re done mounting me, we can go to a BJJ class and practice some Jujitsu.

(Told you guys that I had game. I don’t even have to make two posts to get the ladies)

Are we still talking about trumpet playing? Just asking.

My abilities have many applications.

So ANYWAY, back to PCH! :stuck_out_tongue:

How long have you been doing the NRs program?
I’m finding that I get bored pretty fast, like every three months…same for you?
ComixGuy wrote:

Gis make for more technical fighters. Even submission wrestlers are better off training in gis. Then, when they fight without them, they’re that much better.

No-gi wrestling isn’t as technical, there’s a lot more force involved. If you learn more technique, you’ll be a better fighter without the gi.

I just came here to find out about the kettlebells but I’m very impressed w/ WolBarret’s game.

pch2: if the guy doesn’t lift or otherwise show your level of verve, forgetabouthim.

peer pressure, my arse. that’s no reason to date a chump.

wait…are you saying they have BJJ class from 9-11:30pm?

buncha sick farks in Cleveland.

I’ve been doing it since January actually. The program changes every 4-6 weeks, though the next change is just in reps/sets and I don’t want to do that at the moment. I have yet to pick something new, but have ideas.

I did a kettlebell private on Thursday. It was just me and dd’s friend, who may I say is freakeshly strong.

I know some basic kettlebell movements, I have a 6kg little red guy that I occasionally just play with. So, my goal for the adventure was to make sure I was doing what I was doing correctly and to learn how to string it all together into a good workout. Boy did I learn that!

My mind tends to go blank when faced with the question - show me what you know. Give me some DNA and a microscope and I’ll blow your mind; give me a 12kg kettlebell and I stand there stupidly.

So, when she asked me to show her what basics I knew I of course stood there with a blank stare. She was really cool about it though and said we would just start from scratch.

We started with warming up we did two movements and I’m drawing a blank on what the first one was. The second one though was for your shoulders/upper body and we rotated the kb (a 6kg one) around our heads.

I popped and creaked for the whole thing, ugh. It was a nice movement though, and I think it’ll be good to incorporate into my repertoire.

We then did two arms swings. I need to remember to keep my arms and my shoulders loose. I really don’t have fluidity to my movements, I’ve gotten too used to telling myself - no momentum - in the weight room.

Kbs seem to be all about using the momentum to your advantage. I think learning to do this is going to help with grace. Then it was one arm swings. Not much different from two arms, though just holding onto the kb really kills my grip. The handle on the 12kg is wide and while you don’t have a death grip on it, you still need to hold on to the fucker.

We then switched to a 6kg baby and did turkish getups. Holding this thing above my head is an ordeal on its own. I think I’m going to occasionally just walk aroung the apt with it above me.

I got the sequence of movements pretty easily, but turning it into one fluid movement is something I’m going to have to work on. I really do think too much, it makes the whole thing choppy.

She did it and it looked easy and pretty with the 12 I did it with the 6 and barely could make it. She was really good about telling me what muscles to think about working and how that helps the movement.

I really wanted to do cleans, so we did them next. Fuck me, they are hard with the kb. I kept muscleing up the 6, so we switched to the 12 which I couldn’t just curl into rack. I can’t reproduce the movement consistently.

I can clean it up, but then to rack it she kept telling me to imagine putting on a glove. I kept banging it against my wrist, which really really hurts. I have some wickedly swollen wrists right now (it takes a lot to bruise me).

The few times I did manage to rack it correctly, I forgot that my lower half exists, and hadn’t used my legs/back to initiate the movement. The whole movement pissed me off a bit. I need to figure out a way to practice the racking with out killing my wrists, any suggestions?

We then squatted with the kb racked, and then held in front of you by the horns. She also showed me some dl variations with it.

So, after learning all the movements and getting corrections on my form I did circuits.

20 two arms swings - 12
10 one arm swings ea side - 12
5 getups ea side - 6
5 cleans (I still feel like they were sloppy) ea side - 12

I did this three times and was huffing and puffing the whole time. It really is a fantastic cardio workout. I also really worked my whole body. Overall, I think kbs will be a great way to incorporate some non-boring cardio into my routine, and I can just do it at home!

I kinda ran away for the day yesterday, and went to Ann Arbor to lick some wounds. So, I just joined my brother for his workout. His gym is closed for a while so it was alterna-workout.

20 min run
Have I told everyone how much I hate running? If not, I hate running. To top it all off I had some wicked DOMS in my whole body from the kbs. We ran hills and stairs and a whole bunch of ickyness, the whole time my hams screamed.

As a result of my screaming hams, we did some MM stuff, and then the kb around the head thing.

Sledgehammer swinging 16lbs 10 x 1 min
I had never done this before, and 16lbs felt really heavy to just hold. I’m not sure why, the kb doesn’t feel heavy.

Anyhow, I took me a few sets to get the hang of the movement. Once again it’s a move where you use momentum to your advantage. I had figure out how to do that. By the end I got about 12 swings in on each side in the minute. The sledgehammer was a very good grip workout too, my forearms are currently killing me.

Two arm kb swing - 12kg 3 x 20
One arm kb swing - 12kg 3 x 10 ea side

After this I was just wiped. My whole body had been sore from thursday, and this worked it all again. I loved it though, maybe I can just keep a tire and sledgehammer in my trunk and take it to the park on days when I want to kill everyone? You really need to tap into the rage in order to get the movement fluid.

Later in the day we hit up a Bikram class. It was a really good stretch, and I just lay on the floor for the extreme spine movements.

I didn’t keep track of food on friday and saturday. I cheated on friday night, but kept it clean just not traced yesterday.

I just added the kb adventure, sorry it took a while to get to it.

Yup, it’s insane.

There are classes at 10am that have more girls, but I have to be in lab during the day. I guess it’s nice that there is a time I can make.

The weekend ones are at 2:30, so I hit one today. We actually did a warm up. It was running (UGH), and then just various rolls. It really is just like play, you roll around on the ground. We then learned an actual new move.

Aikido guy wasn’t there so I rolled with an 18 yr old blue belt. He went really easy on me, I told him he could kick it up a notch but he wouldn’t. He also seemed to not want to actually get close to me, which pretty much sucked.

He knew what we were supposed to be doing, so he didn’t really care, but I didn’t get to practice much. What are you supposed to do in those instances? I doubt this will be the last time it happens, and I’m pretty sure I’m almost always going to be the only girl.

For the last half hour of class we usually just do whatever. The kid, of course, didn’t want to roll with me any more, so I practiced on coach which was wonderfully helpful. In the end I got it, I just need to learn to stay close the whole time and of course work on my fluidity.

'Round-the-Body Pass & Halos

That’s one reason it’s so good for BJJ training, you’re going to need that grip, heh.

Here’s a clip of Steve Cotter teaching the clean:

Are you letting your wrists bend back? I doubt Jane would permit that, but that’s a killer, you have to keep the wrists neutral. Otherwise, you’ve just got to get the hang of that spearing movement as if you’re…slipping your hand into a glove.

Coach says: Tell her to tame the arc, she should spear her hand through, fingers open, not gripping the handle…tell her to think about putting the arm around the bell instead of the bell around the arm. Tell her to tie her elbow to her waist with a belt so she can’t flare the elbow out, she’s probably over swinging the bell.

Does that help?

KB interval two-hand swings kick ass. 30-sec on/30-sec off for five min. Try for 20 swings per round.

You’ll run into that with teenage boys who’ve not had physical contact with girls, they get VERY anxious and uptight and keep quite a bit of space between you. I assume they’re afraid of…erections or something. Your boobs and hips get them all upset.

I actually passed on a class Friday night because that was the scene: it was another new school (a small town in the North of Iceland) where I’d be rolling with all new people and the class was all teenagers and young twenties guys, all real beginners (turned out they didn’t even know elbow escapes) and never any girls in the class before. I was in my gi, in the room, ready to go at the start of class and all of a sudden a switch flipped and I just didn’t want to go through the whole thing again. My would-be partner was about 16 and I just suddenly lost my enthusiasm and walked back to the hotel. How will I ever get a blue belt with such a prima donna attitude?

You got the best deal. Your coach will pick the best partners for you or roll with you himself. Enjoy being a white belt, a time where nothing is your fault!

Whoa whoa whoa.

Would you to prefer that the kid get a boner while rolling with you? You’ll be offended, now he’s in trouble, and there’s nothing he can do. If I rolled with a chick, I’m getting a boner. Imagine what a raging teenager would do. Your brown belt will turn into a whie belt.

I didn’t mean to criticize. It is what it is. The only solution is for boys and girls to roll around together more…or have separate classes if there are enough girls. I love boys and I don’t like seeing anybody uncomfortable.

I think it’s hilarious, my 16 y.o. nephew “hugs” me from like a foot away and pats me on the back.

I honestly wasn’t thinking about it like this at all, he was just a kid so all I thought was that maybe he didn’t want to deal with my awkward newness and didn’t expect a girl to be able to cut it anyway.

The kids are more my size, but maybe I’ll just try and stick with the older guys. I’ve been trying to rope some of my friends into coming with me, but they all think I’m insane.

My parents are in town for a few days, I’m just eating whatever my mom puts in front of me. A few days of cheating is easier than dealing with an angry offended little Indian mom.

I hadn’t planned on a workout today but the opportunity presented itself so I did a NR. I still haven’t solidified my new plan, and something is better than nothing. I played a bit through the whole thing.

MM warm up

Plank BW 2x60sec

1 arm DB snatch 30 3x6
I did a few reps with 35 randomly but didn’t really keep track.

A1 BB B Row 75 3x6
A2 DB SL SLDL 25 3x6 ea side

B1 I DB BP 30 3x6
B2 OH Squat 10&20 3x6

I played a bit through the whole thing, so it was just fun overall.

I played mostly because I hurt, and you either laugh or cry along. I’ve still got some wicked DOMS in my shoulders and forearms from the kbs and the sledgehammer. I also have random sore - would probably be a bruise on anyone else - spots. It’s from the pressure of bone against skin, my collar bone, my shins, and my hips. I’ve also got random mat burns on my body, the most strange being the tops of my feet. While I am complaining a bit, I think it’s interesting to see what outside of just strength and technique gets worked in BJJ.

Oh and food’s still not clean. My mom made dosa for dinner, good but mostly carbs.

What is Dosa exactly?

Do you always take pictures of your food?

And what’s with the unclean food? Are we bulking up?
