I hate those burns on the tops of the feet.

LUCKY!
Did you tell your mom you’re fightin’?

Oh…and hide the bondage straps…

They’re kinda like crepes I guess. The outside shell part is made of a rice/lentil flour mix and the inside is filled with spiced potato. Masala Dosa Recipe - South Indian Masala Dosa Recipe - Indian Food Forever

I rarely take pictures of anything, and stole that pic from the interwebz. I thought you guys liked pics, especially of something that looks so much like pancakes.

I bulked for 22 years, I don’t plan on doing it again anytime soon. Don’t worry, they’re gone now and it’ll be clean eating again.

Lol, no. I just tell them I’m trying new workouts. My dad wouldn’t let me carry a 25lb bag of rice from the store to the car, he’s not going to understand trying to carry guys around.

This is why it’s best to use everyday sorts of things. My mom just thinks I have a thing for scarves.

THANK YOU - I haven’t laughed that hard for a couple of weeks!

Bondage straps…What the hell did I miss?

I need to read more.

Scarves, you’re somethin’ else, pch2. Keep the scissors handy.

I keep picturing your mom’s sari scarves now all tied up around you. Now that’s kinky…get back to work.

Ok, not scarves, they’re actually odhnis, and chiffon unknots really easily, no need for scissors.

I went to BJJ yesterday and today. Classes pretty much go the same. We warm up, ask questions, and then learn a new technique. Yesterday it was basic self defense stuff, so wrist locks and how to get out of chokes.

Today on the other hand was ridiculousness, we did various take downs and then triangle choke variations.

I was with Aikido guy yesterday, who I’m beginning to appreciate more and more. We’re not very well matched sizewise (we were doing arm bars and his arm is longer than my torso and head), but he has no problem getting close to me and inflicting a little pain.

He’ll actually go until I tap. He’s also really good about explaining what I’m doing wrong when I mess up.

Today I was with another 18 year old, a purple belt that just came back from the worlds with a handful of metals. He went really easy on me, but seeing as today was a super advanced stuff day, it worked out okay.

I need to work on letting go when I’m about to be slammed into the ground. Actually, there’s so much I need to work on. Flipping him over my back was super fun though!

Random thoughts: I’m really loving that BJJ is all physics. Coach is my sized - 5’4.5 and 140lbs- a small guy, so he’s all about technique.

Seeing him toss around guys twice his size really drives home that I can do the same eventually. I think I’m going to do a few private lessons soon to get more of a foundation.

I spun yesterday morning. It was a bad idea, I spent the whole time almost throwing up. I don’t get back from BJJ until about midnight and then to be up at 5 to spin doesn’t work. I was wiped all day long and ended up ditching lab early to come home and nap. I’m soon going to have to actually come up with a sustainable plan.

Today I tried to work through the movements for a new plan. It was pretty much a failure. I don’t have the confidence/ knowledge to do a lot of the lifts. I can’t seem to figure out how to transition from a clean to a push press. There’s also no room to do anything dynamic in my gym.

As a result of this frustration I wandered into John Black’s gym, but they were about to close so I have to go back later. I’m going to find a trainer that can hold my hand through some new movements.

I found a Krav Maga school about 20 min away, Miss Parker has inspired me to try and hit a class there sometime this week. I’m also trying to locate a good Muay Thai class, I really like kicking things. I think I’m going to adventure for another month or two and then come up with a real long term plan before winter.

I went out last night, I know naughty, but sometimes I feel like being social. I think I’m going to start doing the whole water with a slice of lemon thing though, and just put up with the shit.

I dicked around a bit in the weight room and then went to BJJ.

The new semester is starting and college kids that know what they are doing are appearing every day. I hate being the worst one in class, but because I am I get paired with the best ones for the most part.

We warmed up with open guard while holding your partner’s wrists then swinging your legs so that they’re both on the same side to arm bar position. The kid I was with, Rabbit, was able to swing around me really quickly for the whole minute.

I on the other hand couldn’t seem to make it a fluid motion. Remembering to push off him with one leg while making sure the other leg could clear his head was an ordeal.

We then learned a new move, well they’re all new to me, but you know what I mean. We started in butterfly guard then transitioned to a rear naked choke. It’s shocking how fast that choke makes you tap out.

One second you’re fine the next your head’s about to explode. We drilled this for a while, then I skipped out a bit early to load a gel.

A handful of guys usually stay after class and just roll, if Aikido guy’s there tomorrow I’m going to see if he’ll go at like 10% for me.

Side notes: my hips are really tight, and closed guard around big guys is actually a bit painful. Xen keeps linking people to this You are being redirected... so I’m going to try to read through the site and see what I can use.

The pic’s the Rear Naked choke, I’m stealing them off the internet.

It’s funny how easy it looks, huh?

How did it go???

free your mind and your ass will follow?

I’ve got a number of tricks that will help you out here. Uh, I mean, we’re going to have a great time in Clevetown! I can’t wait, in fact.

[quote]downwardog wrote:

Yeah, they all make everything seem so easy. You put one hand here, point your elbow this way, put the other hand here, put your armpit here, put pressure on this side of your hip, wrap one leg around this side, then the other around this leg, flex your feet like this, and you’ve got it - see it’s just that easy

[quote]…if Aikido guy’s there tomorrow I’m going to see if he’ll go at like 10% for me.

He was there, but really wanted to work on what to do if you’re in closed guard and the person stands up. I can’t really just stand there and hold him for more than a few seconds, so he went and worked with one of the big guys.

I instead asked coach a bunch of questions and then was rewarded with - here just read my notebook. It was good to see how he describes movements when he takes notes, and slightly weird to see STOMP ON HIS HEAD underlined starred occasionally.

That’s pretty much what it is isn’t it? Nervous system work?

Me neither, I told coach my short term goal is to last more than 2 second with you.

It’s ON!!!

epic.

I’m having a bit of trouble planning meals around the weirdness of my new schedule. Eating at 1am sucks. My experiments and the whole no food in lab thing occasionally force me to skip a meal. If I find it’s 1am and I’m 600 calories short, should I have one huge meal, or just skip one? I picked just skip last night and ended my day with 125/84/48/1256.

I went to BJJ last night, the lateness and length of class are taking some getting used to.

We started with warming up by running :frowning:

Then various rolls. I need to remember to always stand up in base Stand Up in Base BJJ - YouTube . Rolling over a shoulder then laying there like a little kid is going to get me stomped on eventually. My newness is currently protecting me, but I can already see the thin spots.

We also did ‘ninja rolls’ - YouTube I think mostly because everyone’s been watching the olympics and wants to be/be with rhythmic dancers. I need to work on handstands, I mostly did backwards somersaults. Fun, but wrong.

Then we learned a new takedown. Coach really places importance on technique before quickness which works well for my slow must need every detail self. He’s also all about stupid little sayings so we heard ‘practice makes permanent’ a lot last night.

I eventually got the throw, but I have yet to get being thrown. I kept getting the wind knocked out of me, and today every breath I take hurts a little. One of my questions after class was how to drill falling. Who knew it was something you should practice? How am I supposed to practice at home though? I don’t have mats.

We then learned various ways to deal with someone that’s stalling out in turtle. It was mostly gi stuff, and I really need to get one.

I’m starting to see the basic principles that all moves stand on. It’s all about controlling your own center of gravity, while trying to get his too. There’s also a lot of using your skeletal structure to hold weight off of you and to act as pivot points. In the takedown you put your foot behind his and pivot him down around that axis.

Have a Surge + serving of whey concentrate post-workout.

Don’t underestimate the power of a BJJ workout. I guess YOU don’t with your 2-1/2 hour class, but I frequently forget, with my one-hour classes.

In fact, if you’re active training more than 90-min, you should sip some Surge throughout.

Have a shake or cottage cheese late night. If you decide to skip, notice if your energy is low the next day and let that guide you whether to skip next time.

What’s your training schedule look like now, anyway?
Sounds wonky! If you’re doing that much BJJ late night, you’ll need to take care of what else you’re adding in.

I guess I kinda do, they don’t really feel like workouts, and they never feel that long either. So Surge even though it’s not straight strength training?

Everything I do is in here, so lately the strength training has been neglected. It’s just too much with the BJJ being so new. I think I’m going to get more of a feel for the BJJ, see what I need to work on and then cater to that.

I’m going home this weekend (my mom turns 50!), and lately lab’s been an endurance activity, so I did measurements this morning. I’ve been feeling smaller, despite a week of not so clean eating.

Neck - 12.5 - 12.5
Shoulders - 40 - 40
Arm - 11.5 - 11
Boobs - 38.5 - 38
Under boobs - 30 - 30
Waist - 28.5 - 27
Belly button - 34.5 - 33
Hips - 38.5 - 37.5
Thigh - 21.5 - 21
Calf - 14 - 14

The numbers are doing pretty much what I want them to, and this is the size I’m good with being. I’m going to keep my diet where it is, since I’m pretty content with it on days when I stick to it. I’ll remeasure next month, and we’ll see what happens.
