Here’s a video of the move http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dKubB3YUhI They picked it up at a Jacare seminar, and it was a complete shock to me the first time. I find myself using half guard a lot.

I youtubed this, sweet! I’m just learning how useful the gi can be. Who knew you could do so much with a belt?

I’m jealous.

Ha! That’s pretty much what every woman says! :^P

Really though, this one’s a winner. He went on ‘vacation’ in Mexico at the beginning of the summer and has since decided to just stay down there to ‘get high and enjoy the culture.’ Fucktard.

He sounds great. If only he were sober and responsible he would be perfect.

Sometimes, though, I really wonder why some of my girlfriends can’t spot that some guy is a fucktard. Is it shocking when you meet a fucktard at a bar being a fucktard that he, in fact, IS a fucktard. But then, I remember that I haven’t always picked the best dudes either.

Just wanted you to know you add something special to these forums.

Now go out there and put someone in a chokehold or arm bar or something like that!

Uh, thanks, now what is that?

Is it wrong that I read that as oompaloompa and pictured one of those dancing around in a gi? I think I need help. My PL sessions are frying my CNS and I start going crazy and having weird thoughts like this hahaha.

She wants to go down there and save him, I keep getting calls at 2am about how she doesn’t know what to do. I think I’m soon going to get a call from Mexico. How do you pull a fucktard out of a bender?

You get a lot of people sharing their problems with you it seems. You have the patience of a saint.

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes

I spent all day yesterday doing BJJ. The morning was with DD and her coach. My coach came to class to. It was really nice to see two guys that really love the art connect, they got along really well too.

We learned about how to dominate in side control (though I need to figure out how to get out of side control), and rolled. Rolling with DD is great, we’re really well matched, she should move to the land of cleves, or at least make it a hub.

Straight from there I went to my regularly planned BJJ class. So, I tweaked my ribs last week. Nothing that showed up on an x-ray, but it was a dull constant reminder pain. Yesterday though I stood up with coach (all 138lbs of him) in guard and heard a wonderfully loud pop come from my rib cage.

Nothing’s broken, but I’ve managed to damage the cartilage around my ribs. It doesn’t hurt if I take shallow breaths and keep really good posture. Any time I activate my core though, ugh, if I actually try to use cores muscles, fuck.

The class was on arm drags, I can live with ugh pain, so I did the stand up stuff. Arm drags from guard to take the back though, quickly became too much to handle, so I just watched.

I tend to be where people come to get away from everything, I don’t quite understand why. I’m not all that patient, I actually tend to cut through all the crap and get to the meat of the issue - here though I’m lost. Sadly, I think she’s going to have to learn the hard way. He’s just such a mess, if he starts dragging her down I’m going to have to hurt him.

Jane wrapped my ankle yesterday, it was so pretty. I attempted to wrap it today, not at all pretty.

I hurt, but I didn’t want to miss class, so I went and told coach that I hurt and I was going to be a girl today.

We warmed up, and I was at a tolerable level of pain. I picked one of the big guys that controls his weight well (Steve) as my partner. I find that little guys don’t know how to keep their weight off of you (usually), but big guys can manage to hover over and not cause any pain.

Then we did grip breaks, but Steve didn’t have his gi top so I ended up with someone new. He was my sized and I was a little worried, since little new guys always have something to prove. New kid put on his gi top and then brown belt. Brown belt? Not a new kid.

An aside - The belt rankings
White - me & DD
Blue - Jane
Purple - my coach
Brown - new kid?
Black - DD’s coach

So, I thought great a Brown belt, he’ll be a great buddy. I told him my left rib cage was fucked up and to go easy on me. We did some grip breaks and it went wonderfully, he even showed me a punch choke for when a grip break doesn’t work.

We then transitioned the grip break into a throw. I told him not to throw me, since my ribs can’t take the impact. What does he immediately do? Throws me. So, now I’m at fuck me pain level. I tapped out and just watched the rest of class and took notes. It pissed me off, but what can you do?

I watched the ‘new kid’ roll with a lot of people, he wasn’t nice to anyone. He found their weakness and then just took it over and over. Not cool, not cool at all.

So, I’m going to go to class until the pain subsides, but probably not actually do anything for a while. I’ll just refine my note taking skills.

I think you should choke him out.

I learned how to tape properly when I played football (bad ankles, multiply broken thumbs)…and that was in the old days before the internet streaming media revolution. YOu should check out some videos on the proper way to tape because it’s not just the ‘look’ (which I know you know) but what and how it supports.

You’re a good friend… Videotape any ensuing beatdowns - that’d be awesome although I sincerely hope it doesn’t come to that and you’re friend realizes there’s nothing she can do about his issues.

hey pch2, here’s a sweet little instructional clip:

Don’t hate because it was all those side control drills that weakened your tweaked ribs. All that time I was applying my weight to your ribcage…then you went and finished the job later that afternoon.

On top of that, I ripped the sleeve off your gi.

Mend yourself up, pch2. Take extra care, now. You don’t take these initial injuries seriously, you can end up with chronic injuries, so make sure you tape up and don’t be tempted into re-injury.

Ha, when I first tried to spell it I typed it into google and it kept telling me I was actually looking for oompaloompas. Mmmm, candy.

No, I guessing now you just have something valid to blame the weird thoughts on.

The running joke with the girls is that if a guy fucks up I’ll come over with a bat, and so she said that the other day. My response was “Yeah, now I don’t even need a bat.”

Yeah, I know which is why mine ended up looking stupid. I know how it’s supposed to feel and could remember some of Jane’s details, but it didn’t feel right so I just kept adding more tape. I’ll follow along with DD’s vid tonite.

[quote]downwardog wrote:

No hate… I need to be better about pacing myself. It’s a whole life sort of issue that manifested into a rib issue on the mat. Nothing like constant pain to remind you that you’ve got a systemic problem. I can’t have my cake and eat it too, though I keep trying.

That’s because you’re a beast.

YEah, that was a great find, video-wise. Like I said, sometimes the internet’s good for sumpthin!

My broken self spent the rest of the week going to class but not doing anything really. I did the warm ups. (Coach has incorporated a few we learned from DD’s visit, which is cool.) I also did each move once to just get a feel for it, but then just took notes and paid attention to the guys rolling.

I don’t really watch enough BJJ, so it was good to see what other people do and how they get out of situations.

Wends - Scissor sweeps
Thurs - What to do if you’re standing and he’s hugging your leg
Sat - Toriano defense
Sun - Ankle locks (sunday is no-gi)
