Jane wrapped my ankle yesterday, it was so pretty. I attempted to wrap it today, not at all pretty.
I hurt, but I didn’t want to miss class, so I went and told coach that I hurt and I was going to be a girl today.
We warmed up, and I was at a tolerable level of pain. I picked one of the big guys that controls his weight well (Steve) as my partner. I find that little guys don’t know how to keep their weight off of you (usually), but big guys can manage to hover over and not cause any pain.
Then we did grip breaks, but Steve didn’t have his gi top so I ended up with someone new. He was my sized and I was a little worried, since little new guys always have something to prove. New kid put on his gi top and then brown belt. Brown belt? Not a new kid.
An aside - The belt rankings
White - me & DD
Blue - Jane
Purple - my coach
Brown - new kid?
Black - DD’s coach
So, I thought great a Brown belt, he’ll be a great buddy. I told him my left rib cage was fucked up and to go easy on me. We did some grip breaks and it went wonderfully, he even showed me a punch choke for when a grip break doesn’t work.
We then transitioned the grip break into a throw. I told him not to throw me, since my ribs can’t take the impact. What does he immediately do? Throws me. So, now I’m at fuck me pain level. I tapped out and just watched the rest of class and took notes. It pissed me off, but what can you do?
I watched the ‘new kid’ roll with a lot of people, he wasn’t nice to anyone. He found their weakness and then just took it over and over. Not cool, not cool at all.
So, I’m going to go to class until the pain subsides, but probably not actually do anything for a while. I’ll just refine my note taking skills.

I learned how to tape properly when I played football (bad ankles, multiply broken thumbs)…and that was in the old days before the internet streaming media revolution. YOu should check out some videos on the proper way to tape because it’s not just the ‘look’ (which I know you know) but what and how it supports.
