Pull up a chair young fella and listen to my tale. Remember how the time between 11 and 16, that magical age when you get your license and freedom, felt like an eternity? The time between 30 and 35, you’ll be asking yourself, what the f*ck happened to the last 5 years? You still get the occasional zit, but you also start noticing wrinkles and gray hair. A nap in the afternoon sounds really good. And that suggestion about the larger font - that’s right on!

Seriously, you got nothing to worry about. Understand that you might not recover as quickly from a really intense workout, but I for one don’t impose limitations on myself because of age.

I think the other thing we’ll be discussing in this forum is scheduling workouts and proper eating around work and family. I read the posts from the college kids saying how “yeah I’m taking a light load this semester so I can sleep as much as I want and mom and dad spent the extra for the all-u-can-eat meal plan so I’m goin’ on a mass cycle for the next three months.” Ain’t no “light semesters” for us old farts. And wifey will frown if I blow the entire food budget on steak and protein shakes.

Not that you need to worry, but things definately changed for me (more like at 40). Mentally i am just as tough, but now I pause and think how much is this going to hurt before plummeting forward. Also, there is that making it to work thing.

Recovery has become so much more important. I tore a hamstring watersking two years ago and it still isn’t quite right. Old injuries don’t care how old you think you are.

yeah, I’m in…just don’t run any features on centrum silver.

Hey, don’t knock them. I actually take a “mature adult” multi-vitamin (I think it’s the Costco brand) but that’s because, other than the “men’s formula” vitamins, these are the only kind I have found that don’t contain iron. And we all know that extra iron for men of any age is bad.

I’m 34 as well. Count me in.

This might not be the proper place for it, but if you are testing the demand for 35+ forum would that also mean that there might be a demand for an article or two geared toward the older lifer?

Nutrition, training, and recovery seemed to have all changed after35.[/quote]

Training periods, recovery, nutritional differences, all great ideas for us old farts.

OK, who’s going to be first to start the Ensure and Depends threads?

Count me in…

Love the idea. Count me in!

When I’m doing heavy squats, I like to take my dentures out and place them on the bench next to me. I find that I can breathe a lots better that way. There’s a little drool, but I wipe it between sets. It that considered bad gym etiquette?

Seriously, the forum would be an interesting idea (I’m 35); but would that mean that the coaches writing the training articles would occasionally have one that’s oriented towards “older” trainees?

I’m in…the training, nutrition and recovery protocols for those of us in the 35+ range are can vary significantly from the younger guys.

MicroSlash

That would be the shit!

I’m old. I’m in.

YES

I’m not old!
I feel great!
It doesn’t take me that much longer to recover!
I can eat almost the same things I ate when I was 25!
My back doesn’t hurt that much!
No, I’m not limping!
I never have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom!

Damn, count me in!!!

I am 38 and i didn’t think i was old untill everyone else said they were at 34, although i don’t recover as easy as i did when i was 18, so you can count me in, mabe there should be a mid life crisis forum… You could count me in on that one to.

Wouldn’t you want to make it a forum for 45 year olds and older? I really didn’t see any changes until my mid to late forties. I think anyone younger than 40 wouldn’t need to change much from their workout habits. Just an observation…

At 35 I hadn’t even started serious exercise. Now, 10 years later, with a few years of T-Mag under my belt (oh, wait; maybe that’s just my prostate swelling), I seem to have made good progress. And that was without “Surge Senior” or “5 by 5 for Fifties” or “ABBH” (Aged Body Building Hypertrophy).

Forums specific to topics make sense. Forums specific to segments of the population are trickier. Granted, there are more people 35+ around here than T-Women, so there would probably be plenty of activity from the target clientele.

But I wonder if the perceived need could be better met by a series of articles targeting the older athlete, which could then be archived in the Article Library under the appropriate title. The categories that would address the needs of the older athlete are finite, and the knowledge to be imparted also finite. I’d hate to see the forum lose steam after a time and then fade for lack of input, like all but one of the weblogs.

I’d be happy to see articles targeting the older lifter. But I’d prefer to hang with the rest of the guys and gals.

How about a 30 year and older instead of 35. But how will you be able to keep out the “I just turned 16 and been working out for 2 weeks, I found your site 2 days ago and I’m too lazy to read the articles but I wanna drop 20 pounds ft and gain 40 pounds muscle in 30 days and run track and stay at 140 for wrestling should I use MAG-10?” posts? ;]

Well…you can count me in…oh wait…I already posted that huh?

Pookie - you have absolutely no idea how close to telling the truth you are.
