Dude… it is pretty impressive.
He is obviously on the steroids… the steroid of awesome.
How can they prove it though?
2 Things, I find the lifts hard to believe, secondly, I don’t get the title, are we supposed to be impressed with this guys physique?

Perfectly stated
take from it what you will. he’s just a huge dude, who ate 4 lbs of meat a day and ended up pretty goddamn big. I know he doesn’t have bodybuilder proportions, but anyone who would claim there is a natural genetic ceiling south of 200 lbs has to realize their kidding themselves.
Often, new kids will look at anyone bigger and cry roids. Our culture doesn’t help, what with star athletes getting busted in almost every major sport besides hockey(…). Personally, I found it reassuring that I can definitely say that even 100 years ago, 15inch biceps were small
I think considering that the ‘old school strength athletes’ didn’t train for hypertrophy, the guy didn’t look too shabby, especially the pic at 17. I don’t know about you guys, but I looked pretty sickly skinny at 17. Also, remember that this guy was years before Charles Atlas, who although we may consider his “physique” laughable today, was looked up to by the majority of the general public at the time.

when did he die?
Saying “Who Cares” is pretty dick statement. These guys were pioneers of strength and hypertrophy at the time, What they accomplished is very impressive at the time.
Stu, I really think he looks no different than many young posters in RMP over the years. His biography states he really got big in his twenties, he was, by his count, 185 in that pic, about 6ft tall. Certainly not filled out. George Hackenschmidt, the famous Russian lion, was by ccount 4’7 and 125 at 14.
It is interesting that many of these guys started lifting at freaking 10 or 11.

Sometime in 1950, WWII devastated his life earnings

LOL… How can any of those feats be proven??? There are sources that say Bruce Lee did pushups with his thumbs with 250 lbs on his back…right. Not to mention, we have all know someone, who knew someone, who knew someone, who squatted 800 LBS when they were young. Are we to believe all of that to?
I must of been on steroids since i was 12 or 13! LOL

That’s my point lol. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that everytime we here ^an outrageous claim there is no actual proof. I don’t care about hearsay and the pics in this thread are not impressive by bodybuilding standards. Nice they lifted though.

Thats certainly true that there are no IPF records from the 1920’s but we do tend to take the observations of others at the time as having some historical merit.
We don’t have anything other than the observations of others, their peers, that the Spartans were indeed highly trained badasses but we pretty much accept it as a fact.
