OUCH, my poor palm!

Yesterday I dip “heavy” dips for my triceps, as part of maximal weights. I’m on the 4x6 part now. Anyway, my palm is SO sore today! What can I do for this doesn’t happen again, and also I need to do dips for my chest on Thursday.

Damn, Chris Shugart, you are so mean. I swear if i was a foot taller and had 100lbs more muscle, I’d teach you a lesson. As for the dip problem, I suggest you use the bench variety, to avoid straining yourself, be sure to wear gloves and have a spotter though, as resistance training can be very dangerous.

Keep doing it. You’ll get used to it. It’s like the first time someone tries the hook grip, they feel like the thumbnail is gonna rip off. You adapt.

I have this great salve that will work pretty good Princess. It also cures sore throats.

You’ll get used to it. Your hands will adjust to the pressure and eventually it won’t hurt. I would only do them once a week until the pain subsides. And I don’t recommend the bench dip. As they tend to be a shoulder wreckers. If you can’t do dips through a full-range of motion, then do as Poliquin suggests and try decline close-grip benches until you have enough strength to do them.

Okay, I’ll preface my comments with the caveat that I wear gloves. I found that I had problems with my hands after dipping when my hand position put the bar down the center of my palm (at the base near the wrist). When I dipped with the bar in what would be a normal position (like a barbell when bench pressing) I had no problems. Try varying your hand position, that may clear it up.

The bar diameters are too small for you. Fold some towels and place one over each bar.

Thanks for the help, everyone. The bar is too fat, actually. I may try the sponges though. Gloves stink since they get smelly, and who wants to wash them after every workout? And although I am enough of a sissy to get sore palms, I am NOT such a sissy that I will do bench dips!
