anyone have an idea on how to add weight to dbs, I just rowed 120x8 but once i get to the 5-7 stage i’ll need more weight and the dbs at my gym only go up to 110 (I used elastic bands this time to make 120’s)
or I could move db rows to the higher rep range i guess but i like doing them heavy
Could you use some short chains in some fashion? (if your gym allows such a thing)
hmm thats one i hadn’t though of, have to find some chains first. One thing i just thought of was to tie 2.5ers to the handle with something

I think they make small plates ( 2.5lbs ) with magnets attached so you can jus tstick them on the ends of your db’s
Pars
That sounds good, thanks guys I’ll figure something out
Yeah, I saw them as well, the platemates. I thought about mentioning those as well, but there seems to be a thread about them now. My gym (a YMCA) only has the rubber coated concrete mix dumbells, so something like that wouldn’t work well in all situations. The chains would allow higher poundage jumps, and I would assume be much cheaper than the platemates if you did them yourself. YMMV, as they say.

I have this problem at my gym too…here is my solution, most particularly for db rows…
tie them together. Put the heavier dumbell across the smaller one in an “x” fashion. ( lay the handles across one another so they are perpendicular and kinda “fit” together. Then tie the two handles together with a length of rope. Thats your fix, at least till you work up to 220 lbs. I haven’t gotten to the point where I need to tie 3 together yet :).
Now if I could only figure out a way to rig them up for DB military and bench…
Aha! This could work
For anyone else who’s interested I think I found a video on youtube of what modok is talking about
(minus the tying them together part)

LOL-yeah, I live in a rural area. Duct tape is used well outside intended purposes here, for sure. Now this is going to turn into a Red Green show thread…

I’m thinking about buying some ankle weights (preferably adjustable, but if not, 2.5 lb each) so I can “create” my own x2.5 lb DBs. Slap them on your wrists, and you’re good to go.

Another alternative would be to do 1-arm corner rows. Seems to mimic the movement, and all you need is a barbell, weights, and a sturdy corner.
Grip might be an issue, since you’d be holding the end of the barbell (it’s considerably fatter).

Ya some guys in BOI think my numbers have to be made up as they are too high, which i took exception too.
So i’m going to be making some videos to put it to bed, making a Squat video today with my “ficticious” 120kg Squat, but i hope to get 140kg
bugeishaAD wrote:
That would be extraordinarily impressive if you reached those numbers in that time frame. I enjoy watching your progress, and even if at times some of your numbers seem questionable, you show good heart and enthusiasm. No need to keep harping on the fact that some people think you’re a troll or whatever. ![]()
Yes it would, which is why i’m going to get it.
As for my numbers being questionable making a Squat video today and will make more of my “ficticious” numbers. Put that issue to bed.
And if someone basically called you a liar to your face, i doubt you’d be to pleased either.

I don’t know if this is as effective as mentioned above…but I like to get a length of chain or rope and some oly plates. Thread the chain/rope thru the plates and tie off to a handle.
Although this does not help with DB bench presses. I still have troubles making DB’s heavier (Out here, the average heaviest DB’s are 65LBS!!! Ever so rarely you might find some heavier.
To date, the best I can figure out for this one (DB bench presses) is to use a rope and thread it around the DB and through plates. Two main problems that occur are: 1) MAJOR rope burn on the palms/fingers, and 2) due to the placement of the ropes and therfore extra weight, there is undue stress on the shoulders.
My .02 (maybe a bit off topic, though).

More like Gironda rows. Ol Vince was doing these bent forward, wide grip and elbows spread wide 40 years ago. He got to some impressive weight too.
Just keeping the history alive. If you don’t know where you’ve been, you’ll never understand where you’re going.
DH
Yeah that’s what I assumed guys were talking about… I think Gironda called them High Pulls which is what I call them as well. Good movement for side delts if done properly
These are not high pulls. High pulls are an explosive movement done from the floor in which you should end up on your toes with the bar at around chin height, essentially a clean where you do not catch the bar. Arnold mentions another variation he calls “heavy upright rows” where you use body english to initiate the upright row, but this still isn’t what we are talking about here. This move is really a hybrid of a bent row and an upright row executed with a wide grip. Th bar is stopped by the torso well before reaching chin level. That is why I thought we were dealing with a new move here. If Vince did these, then I would be following bodybuilding tradition to rip him off, credit it someone else, and package it in a new name. After all isn’t that where half of our modern programs come from? ![]()
I’m familiar with the olympic lifters high pull…
http://www.ironguru.com/shoulders/ second one down. I don’t pull as high as Vince recommends but the idea is the same.
Here is my videos of today as promised:
