i took 2 weeks off for vacation, every other day i did 5 sets of one arm pushups, 5 sets of handstand pushups, and 5 sets of weighted pullups. when i came back, my benchpress had increased by 10 kg. what do u guys think of these?
I think it’s a nice progress.
Imho there are two possible reasons, why your max increases that much:
- You didn’t train hard enough with weights, so the bw exercises were more taxing on your body and therefore the strenght improvement.
- But more likely you just needed some time off the iron to regenerate fully. The vacation was two forced deload weeks.
However, I am more interested what you did to keep your legs strong? I can’t think of anything else than pistols.
Greetings, Andy
hey andy,
i think the 2 weeks were a deload, since i used to bench 2wice- 3 times per week, but i think the exercises contributed a lot, coz increasing from 125 kg for 2 reps, to 135 kg for 2 reps is pretty hard. i used full ROM repetitions, each set to failure.
for legs, i used to do 10*100m sprints on the beach, on off days from training.
