According to everyone on this thread I must have terrible form, as I hardly ever scrape my chins. My numbers have been going up and I’ve had no back problems, so I never thought I could have bad form.
For some thick-headed reason, I still don’t. I like D-lifting in shorts and would actually find it difficult to scrape my shins even if I tried.

Who knows…?
I’ve never scraped my chin, I only have one. I’ve hit it on the pull-up bar a few times though, that kind of hurts.
Seriously though, my shins always get scraped a bit from DL’s and cleans.
If you want to really ravage the shins try Thai kickboxing. It is a different kind of damage, and you will have huge lumps all over your shins for a while.
I never get cut up doing deadlifts, probably due to wearing full length tracksuit bottoms. Also if its a problem you could try doing the rolling movement that i’ve seen a few people doing. where they roll it at on the floor towards them as if to get some momentum. that way it would be moving towards your body but not actually scratching your body.
I have however got cut up doing sumo deadlifts but i don’t do them much.
I scraped my shins every DL session before I realized why every DL picture I saw, the guy was wearing high socks or pants. Now I wear knee-high socks when DLing and the scrapes have been all but eliminated.
I’m no expert, but I don’t think you should be hitting your shins hard enough to damage them if you’re wearing some cloth over them. Maybe you guys are just exaggerating about the severity of your bruises? Exaggeration on the internet you say? Yeah, probably not.

take some disinfecant to the gym you grot no sriously get some shin protectors wear them under your pants so no one realises how gay you are lol
That’s a great way if you don’t have a hex bar around. Good advice!! But, I think some of the “men” on her are to “manly” for that.
For real though! Some of you guys out here have way toooo much T flowing thru your veins & it’s starting to effect your thinking. Too much of a great thing is not good.

something i have done to reduce shin damage, but not stop, is to wear pants that are made out of polyester like those seen from addidas. but almost anytime i pull i get bloody shins. i love it.
This works well for me too. I don’t like wearing high sox, they make my calves feel “tight” and only provide minimal cushion anyway. The polyester (or any other smooth feeling synthetic pants) reduces friction by letting the bar slide rather than scrape down your shins. You’ll still get bruised, but now you don’t have to pour the blood out of your shoes.
