? on seated dumbell snatch

I’m using Coach Davies functional strength program, and I’ve never seen this exercise performed. Can someone describe the correct form?

very simple lift. But please - dont work to maximal levels on this. Build a volume base first and establish a good understanding of the movement. Sit on edge of bench or even a swiss ball, with feet firmly planted. With dumbell on floor, lean over slightly and pull above head in one easy motion. I hope that helps - and please start easy! I look forward to hearing from you. In faith, Coach Davies

Coach, do you clean the dumbbell (like upright row) and then extend explosively for the dumbbell snatches (seated or standing)? Since I am just starting out with snatches, do you reccommend standing or seated db snatches. I tried the standing version and basically I did it starting out as a db deadlift except the db was in front and close to my body. I raise the db to shoulder level in an explosive pulling fashion. I kind of jump up in the air about 1-2 inches for explosive. Once db is at shoulder level I extend quickly to over my head. Is this correct?

Scott - since you are just starting with snatch, try to learn the lift from a hang below your knees, with a simple wooden pole. Take your time and learn the proper motion and you will receive the benefits of this tremendous lift. If you like you can email me and I will send you a few photos that might assist or you can also do a quick search on the net. I look forward to assisting you. In faith, Coach Davies
