personally never understood the no caffeine thing. It wakes me up in the morning, keeps me going through training, and maintains sanity in this modern world. It also ups the metabolism, or so they say. Then again all of the doctors I know (only a couple) drink lots of caffeine and self-prescribe test, so I might be in the wrong social group:)

sounds like a social group most of us would like to belong to.
you don’t have to quit coffee. the point the Drs Eades make is that the main reason we get tons of inter-organ fat, that doesn’t belong there, is because our liver is not working right. so, they say give your liver a break for 2 weeks. no booze, no caffiene (coffee or diet sodas) no ibuprofen, and a couple other things that didn’t matter to me cuz they’re not in my rotation. the point is, these are the things that the liver has to work hardest to process, and by giving it a break, you come back with your liver working at top speed so to speak.
I have had coffee a couple times during this time period, and I am sure it won’t kill me. On the other hand, the first time I did atkins (during the 2 week induction phase), I dropped a pile of pounds, and I stayed off the coffee that time. when I started drinking it again, i plateaued. hmmm, i’ve never thought of that…
But like with most things, I overindulge with coffee. 2 pots of double strength coffee is what I normally drink in a day. I am now wondering if my fat loss goals will be better served if I can limit my coffee intake to something reasonable. hmmm, 2 cups of really good coffee instead of 2 pots of the shit i usually drink. thinking…
I’m not saying coffee/caffiene is bad in and of itself. I prolly just have too fucking much of that shit. at least too much for me. I’ve been abusing myself for an awfully long time, so its no surprise that some of my shit no longer works right.
be nice if i can get this shit fingered out before it kilz me.

If true, Lets start a new weight gain formula business for the 20 somethings.
Enjoy the rest of your deload. Looks like a bunch of us are on the same monthly cycle. I hear that happens at T-Nation.[/quote]
it was that yummy costco cake with the foot-thick icing. they probably only weighed a pound together. but, it kicked me out of keto, so the first thing that happens is you start hydrobloating again. not that I have anything against a good, pre-planned bloat. but that’s not what i was trying to accomplish at the time. i think i am back in keto now, so I am hoping to see some good results in the coming week.
i think its sweet that all us girls cycle together. group hug

Nice work goin’ on in here. Upright rows screw my shoulders… heavy shrugs seems to work well for me, using both dumbells and barbells.
Its funny but my traps are fairly large comparitively and I really think its the rack high rep rack pulls.
I also would like to hang out with Pete’s doctor friends.
Good lifting buddy.
If you really want to lose weight follow this diet: cigarettes, hard liquor, chips and/or pretzels, repeat. Weight will drop right off.

so you’re saying i should replace the ice cream with chips and/or pretzels? okay, I’ll try that instead
3/30/10 5/3/1 squat(deload) cycle 8
and thus ends the eighth cycle. squat deload consisted of 5x8 of front squats and pull down abz. on the front squats, the first set was at 115, last 2 sets at 145. I really felt like I was finally finding a groove on these on the 4th set. I think I’ve been trying to sit back too much. getting in the “rack” is a lot easier now too. I would like to hit a set of 8 at 225 on fronties by the end of the year. that would be cool.
cycle 9 starts tomorrow with weighted dips replacing militaries. i’ll still use militaries for the 5x10 portion of the bbb, but I am doing weighted dips following the 5/3/1 template, to see if it makes my bench go up faster.
Stop Deloading harder
old lardass
tear. it. up.
so even on no caffeine no calories no ibuprofen still training hard.
Nice work
I just noticed all this front squat talk… thanks for the props.
If you go back to Carl Darby’s old log he has some excellent videos of front squats
his hands are wide- like at the ‘caps’ of his shoulders or one or two fingers touching shoulders-
I bet for bigger dudes that is easier.
here is my take on caffeine- I need it, but have to monitor it.
last Thursday I did a 17 hour day for a shit reality show, I drank three esspresso’s
and 5 redbulls to make it thru the day. and felt like shit.
5 redbulls might be average for 21 yearold video game expert but it put a dent on me.
Water in the am at least a liter and a shot of GOOD decaff esspresso ( or just one good shot of esspresso)
gets me through the day. Another one at 3 and I am good to do a 14 hour hard day.
I monitor caffeine as stress and big anxiety go hand in hand with mounting a big show…
there have been too many , freakouts, nervous breakdowns, in my little work posse to not think of this crap.
however messing with my caffeine intake is like messing with my money- im not happy.
MJ, great front squatting. I need to throw those into a workout soon.

hey Kev,
surprisingly, what I have found (now that I’m back on the sauce) is that the best time for me is to have a couple cups of strong coffee about 1-2pm. that is usually when I am sucking ass, its post workout, high body temperature, and back to the office. a couple cups at this point keeps my bushy-tailed for the rest of the day.
My problem is that I just love coffee. I can drink 2 pots without thinking about it, so I have to keep tabs on myself.
Redbulls were meant to be mixed with whiskey. when you’re irish, nothing beats a good wide-awake drunk!

now that I’ve found a groove, they don’t suck. I can start loading it and getting stronger now. It hits my lower back like nobody’s business, so I must really need them.

For me front squats feel great on my low back. Its regulat squats that can get my back all pissed off. Is whiskey and red bulll a real drink??
Nice work here. If I gave up caffeine I would just be asleep. All the time.
I get pissed when people mix good whiskey with redbull. A few years back some friends were doing that with Jameson. I took the bottle of Jameson away from them, told them they could have some when they grew up. We were all like 35 at the time.

bad kids, what can you do.
i only mix ice with jameson.
Steve, it is indeed a drink, but as Pete has so kindly pointed out, not to be mixed with decent whiskey.
3/31/10 5/3/1 Dips(5) cycle 9
310x 8 (11 would have been PR)
this was bw+15
did all the bbb sets, get to go up 10 lbs on military.
According to the psycho article I read, in order for me to bench around 425-450, I should be able to hit 5 dips with 200 extra lbs. That means a wendler max of 584 (500x5). my current max is 420(296x12), so I need to add about 165 lbs to my weighted dip. I am pretty disgusted with how weak I am on this, but happy as well because the weakness proves that, like front squats, this is something I need to fix. me and my tiny tris. Since I haven’t done any direct triceps work for a long time, I expect to progress reasonably fast at first, as my strength increases to what my baseline should be. after that it’ll be a grind like everything else. my first set today was at bw-60, then bw-25, then bw+15. it was humiliating using the dip machine thing. Just out of sheer ego, I will reset my max as soon as i am strong enough to hit my bottom set of 5 at bw, so that I don’t have to use the baby machine. actually, i wont’ cuz that would slow my progress, but I hate that thing.
its fun doing something new, and it will be fun to get great big triceps so that I can lock out PeteS-sized benches

Same as you, I added weighted dips for my tricep work. Up to 70# and counting. Keep it up
4/5/10 5/3/1 deadlift(5) cycle 9
320x 11, +6pr
i think this was the front squats. last deadlift pr was 11/25/09 so I am fairly pleased with this.
5x10 at 215 is also a pr on the BBB. not big numbers in general, but big for me. Note that I am still out of breath and I finished 45 minutes ago, and I will surely be paying for this for several days. it was still nice to break the deadlift pr drought.
My goal is still to pull 500 by the end of the year.

Nice pulling MJ, I have to concur with your assesment of BB DL’s, they do suck.
