Black coffee and water. Thats what I drink all day at work. Puts hair on my chest.

Yup. Black coffee for me too… but I am interested to see if it has an effect on abdominal fat… neat!

In my experience the best recovery tool I’ve even seen is PB&J sandwiches. Followed closely by a handful of tequila shots and a lap dance.

that would normally be most awesome. except the only thing on my diet is the lap dance. which is still awesome

being a quitter is hard work…

we quit caffeine here about 1.5 years ago to try to get pregnant.
I turned into a raving loon- mostly I drink esspresso
it actually has less caffeine then brewed coffee cause its brewed faster.
we buy good decafe fresh roasted beans and have them ground- makes a huge difference to
drink GOOD shit even its decafe…

I do admitt to loading up on caffinated shit at work - otherwise Id never make it through the bigger days.

quit harder.

youll love the change eventually[/quote]

i hope so. the first couple days were brutal. i had a cup of half-strength on Sunday, but that’s the only coffee since Friday. none yesterday or today. I think I’m mostly over the joneses.

i make coffee out of espresso beans, but I am kwear, so I have cream with it. Hopefully, after this phase of the diet, my “need” for coffee will be lower.

I’ve lost 5 lbs or so already, so it should be interesting.

3/24/10 5/3/1 deadlift(deload) cycle 8

did the regular accessories, 5x8 instead of 5x10. I have found that the deload works best for me when I do accessories only, same weight, but sets of 8 instead of 10. someone on the 5/3/1 forum suggested this or taking 80% of your weights. That’s too much math, so I take the 80% of the reps. works either way.

i did add an exercise today. His Jimness (bow down) says that upright rows bring the yoke up fast, so I did 5 sets of 8 on that. its all about the yoke.

I felt beat to hell, probably because of the diet. The hardest thing is not giving up the coffee, its been giving up ibuprofen. Its amazing how much stuff that was taking care of! now everything hurts more, and more often. But, my son’s bday party is the 3rd, and this phase of the diet ends on the 2d, so I will be rocking the pseudo-asprin.

The doc that wrote the diet suggested using 2.5g l-leucine in each of the 3 daily shakes, along with a little over 60g protein. Hard to believe he doesn’t lift with a diet like this. It gave me the opportunity to buy the l-leucine from Biotest. I’ll report back on whether it lives up to its hype. i also bought another bottle of Circumin 500 since I can’t have ibuprofen. If I didn’t have that stuff to fall back on (I still had a half bottle from before) I think i’d be a crying mess.

They’ll take my coffee when they pry it from my limp hand, or something like that. So, of my few indulgences left you gots and go and mess with the coffee? Ain’t coffee one of the major food groups? Let us know how it goes with the upright rows. Read alot of both pros and cons on them.

Yup, coffees one food group, Aleve is another. The next food group is ‘Whatever I eat after lifting’, The last is ‘Whatever I eat before lifting’. I think that covers the 4 food groups!!!

i have heard that upright rows are bad for your shoulders. I used to do them back in the '80s, but I stopped. My shoulders are still holding my arms on after doing them yesterday, so far so good. I didn’t feel any kind of twinge or anything, but I only bring the bar up to about nipple height.

Jim Wendler swears by them for working the yoke, and as you know, it is ALL about the traps.

Oh, and I don’t have to quit coffee forever, just a couple weeks. I am already planning a coffee feast on sat. apr 3, so I can match vibrations with my 12 year old son and his friends all hopped up on cake and icecream. Its my boy’s 12 bday party on that day, so i won’t have to go without my own cake and ice cream.

That’s the ticket. It’s the guys who try to get to their chins with the bar on upright rows who end up with the shoulder impingement and pain. Bottom of the ribs or to the nipplies does the work without causing the damage. I don’t do them simply because they turn into a biceps exercise for me.

it does seem to hit the lower part of that muscle under the delt between the biceps and triceps. I think its called the brachialis or some shit. I really felt it where it inserts near the elbow for a few days, but sadly, my yoke was not sore for days, so obviously I didn’t use enough weight.

we had a retirement party at the office yesterday, and I cheated monstrously on the diet. 2 pcs cake and sandwich and cup of coffee. considering how strict the diet is laid out, I am interested to see if I get a big spike in my weight. deload bench today, so I’ll get a chance to weigh and check it out. The great Weighted Dips experiment starts next week!

Often, if you go wider and concentrate on pulling the elbow to shoulder level you get some effect. Cleans and snatches will NAIL your traps. Mine have been sore for 3 days straight now from that.

I’ll have to try that tony, I was gripping pretty narrow. plus I wasn’t using much weight. I added cleans to my squat day for the yoke affect.

3/26/10 5/3/1 Bench(deload) cycle 8

did the work.

my diet cheating yesterday cost me 2 pounds. hopefully, if I stay hard on the diet, i can get back into keto.

unload harder
old lardass

Thats 1 lb per piece of cake. Come on, fess up, were those pieces or the whole damn thing?

If true, Lets start a new weight gain formula business for the 20 somethings.

Enjoy the rest of your deload. Looks like a bunch of us are on the same monthly cycle. I hear that happens at T-Nation.

That falls under post-workout, or is it pre-workout??? Hmmm…guess it doesn’t matter

I think I would be forced to call the medical board and report any quack who told me to not drink coffee.
