I thought I would post my training log on here hopefully I will get some helpful feedback. But first a little info about me. I’m 52 years old with about 25 years hit or miss training experience. I’m about 5’ 8 in tall and currently weigh around 210. But I am thinking about going up to 220 for a short time for a powerlifting meet coming up in September. I haven’t lifted in competition since the 80’s and then only in local meets. At that time I weighed about 165. I lift in a gym owned by a good friend who lets me bring in some of my personal equipment. I’ll get started with my monday 06/02 workout and go from there.
Thanks, but I feel like with so many years of lifting my numbers should be a lot better. That’s the reason for this log. I did 450 shirted on bench a year ago before I injured my shoulder. This was a gym lift by the way.
Grettings. Last PW meet I was in was back in the 80s, too. Been playing around with the idea of trying it again. I’ve never lifted with a shirt or used boards benching so I’ll be interested in your training.
Safety bar Speed box Squat 65x10x2 155x5x2 245x2 275x2x10
Good mornings 275x5 335x2 425x3x2
Seated single leg curls 100x10x3
Hammer low rows 180x8 270x6 360x6 450x8x3
Chins BWx10x4 superset with rolling dumbell tricep press 35x10 40x10x3
104 degrees outside today felt like 90 in the gym. I felt weak on the good mornings so I cut back on the reps. Might have been because I had to mow my yard in the middle of the day. I’m thinking about putting down concrete in my yard and painting it green, but I don’t think it would go over too well with my wife.

Hey Ironman, welcome to the boards. You are sputting up some powerful numbers already. I am looking forward to your following your log[/quote]
hel320, my best lifts in the 80’s were 405 squat, 280 bench, and 455 deadlift I think. I won a couple of meets, but didn’t do so well in a couple others. This was before I started using a bench shirt. But I did use a Marathon squat suit. By the way all my squats were done olympic style because I didn’t know any better.
My training now is a 3 day a week modified westside which I think works best for me because of my age. Back in the 80’s I worked more of 4 day push pull bodybuilding split again because I didn’t know any better. Sometimes I wish I had taken the advice of the owner of the gym where I was lifting at the time. He told me if I wanted to bench more to throw out a lot of the extra stuff I was doing for my bench.
Thanks for the positive feedback guys, but I still don’t feel like my bench numbers are that good. I made a change in my speed work on bench. I was using bands but I may have been overtraining a little bit so I went to straight weight. I’ll probably cycle back to the bands in a few weeks. Tonight is ME squat night I’m hoping to hit a decent number.
I didn’t get the number I was looking for in my squat probably because I felt tired the whole workout. I started to bag it and go home. But I toughed it out and made it most of the way until I had to quit to go to work.
Blew off my Saturday Bench workout. There wasn’t anyone in the gym I could trust to spot me, plus I was still feeling a little rundown. My son came up to stay with me for a few days so I should have more motivation to get in the gym and bust my ass. He is going to leave for Hawaii in a few weeks. I’m sure going to miss having him around.
