2/4/10 5/3/1 Deadlift(deload) cycle7
I lowered my bbb weight to 205, and did 5 sets of 8 to celebrate the deload.

I spent 20+ minutes warming up, and 12 minutes lifting. i went back and forth between the deads and incline situps. the first couple sets went well, with the only rest being the time it took to walk from where I was deadlifting to the decline benches. After the 3d set, I had to sit down and do much breathing.

My goal for the week was to have 4 real training days, some kind of energy systems in the am and lifties in the pm. I have had 3 real training days (I took tuesday off due to my advanced pussatude). So, if I fail to puss out tomorrow, I will have hit my goal for the week, and that will be awesome.

Normally on a week like this, where I have done fairly good at staying on the diet, I would have lost at least a pound or 2, but no. I was 297 on Monday, and 297 today.

3 days a week of SOLID training
and some energy systems- whats there to cry about.

You are one motivated, hard training S.O.B
nice work.

Don’t look at the scale every day.

I’m with you with the sled dragging and finding the right place and amount to do. I’ve heard good things about the Paleo but I’m an Anabolic Diet man myself. No cheese would be too much to bear.

2/5/10 5/3/1 Bench(deload) cycle7
made another change to the plan. I figured “since I’m doing all this fat-loss shite in the mornings, why should I try to do it again with my accessories, when I might actually keep or gain some strength”. so, I will be using my regular weights unless my lack of calories/energy prevent it, and keep the conditioning stuff in the morning session.

so that’s what I did today, 5x8 of bench and 5x8 of kroc roze at the regular poundages. got a little tired at the end, which felt good, but hit the numbers. no lifting over the weekend, so deload squat on monday, then off to cycle 8.

I only made 7 of my 8 planned training sessions. I was too beat up to do complexes this morning. I am pretty sure that I will find time on either sat or sun to drop by the gym for 12 minutes of fury. if I’m lucky, i’ll also have a chance to drag, but the schedule doesn’t look good for sled draggin this weekend.

kevin, not trying to be a crybaby, cuz eco-steve still has the oily rags! as for motivation, etc, i am just tired of what I am instead of what I could be. maybe I have had what Shugart calls my “phoenix moment”…

Joe, I havent read about the anabolic diet. is that carb cycling of some type? And I am starting with the version that allows cheese and eggs. normally all dairy and all but infrequent eggs are verboten. but I have to make most of my meals at work, and eggsncheez are a staple for me. The reason I am trying this is that after reading Meades book called protein power, I thought that some of my other health challenges might be fixed if I backed way off the dairy. Id been doing Atkins, so unless I was cheating, i was pretty much off grains. my problem was fruit, which you don’t get much of on Atkins, but get piles of on Paleo. So, we’ll see how it goes.

down a pound and a half since yesterday. I know its just fluids, but it always feels good to end the week lower than you started it.

have a great weekend you old basterds!

Good work, MJ, its always nice to make progress!

Thanks Jack!

I was able to get in for some barbell complexes on Sat., so mission accomplished last week, 8 training sessions.

got this week started off good. dragged 1/2 mile with sled + 25lbs. then did 13 intervals with sled + 45 lbs., 22s pull, 22s rest. i am going to leave the poundage steady, and work my way up to 20 intervals. I am trying to add a second to the intervals each time, but I don’t know how that will go.

it would be hard to call these “sprints”, cuz I’m going so damn slow. but its definitely interval work. high intensity? prolly not for most. just a big old fat guy dragging a tire for time.

squat deload today, which oddly enough, means good mornings and not squats. I have been obsessing about adding cleans into my squat training all weekend. I don’t really have time to add another exercise to the session, but I have real bad impulse control, so we’ll see how it goes.

So, I will continue to follow this diet/template for a full 5/3/1 training cycle, and see how I respond.

2/8/10 5/3/1 squat(deload) cycle 7
On cleans, I did 10 at 135, which is an est max of 180. note that like most idiots, I did not bend my knees to catch the bar, because that would have been too many things to remember. I’ll start at 85% of this number as my training max. I have not done cleans since high school, and I wasn’t very good at them then. We never maxed on cleans, and I think the most I ever did was 185 for reps. but, I feel the need to (a) add some explosive work into the mix, and (b) grow my yoke.

finished deloading, and I feel ready for the next cycle, which starts tomorrow. I’ll have to play with the spreadsheet and add in cleans. big fun. feel like I was hit by a truck. I am beginning to recognize this as a low carb thing. I will do the caveman diet for all of cycle 8, and see what it does for me. I will consider this the first week cuz I cheated a couple times last week.

Saw a guy reverse-band benching at the Golds today. First time I have seen anyone working bands. Turns out the guy is a trainer there, and a competitive powerlifter. has a 1200 # total at 181. (compare with my non-competition total of 1115 at 300).

Good times training harder,

i felt like ass this morning, so no energy systems work. military press at lunch

Who doesnt feel like ass??

Nice work … cleans , tabata and tire dragging…
I like that.

2/9/10 5/3/1 military(5) cycle 8

135x 13 3 rep pr, but no new max.

Felt great to start the cycle with a PR, even a tiny one. My accessory work was fast, but suffered a little - prolly because of the PR effort and the lack of rest between sets, but that’s okay. shoulders/arms feel swole.

working tonight, so no draggies, just barbell complex. I’ll add 5 lbs to the bar. I want to be able to do this complex with 200 lbs, I don’t give a shit what alwyn cosgrove says! but, tomorrow will be 100 lbs instead of 95. taking my gains in little bitty bites.

parent teacher conference tomorrow, so I can’t sneak out and lift, so it will just be morning sweatbox.

training harder and paying for it,

Especially first thing in the materyebayushchi morning.

Holy crap buddy! Some serious work going on over here, nice! Now I feel guilty… I gotta increase my work load… gettin’ lazy.

Once the snow starts to go, I need to get myself a tire or a sled or something, start pushin’ and pullin’.

Congrats on the PR, thats some nice lifting.

Thanks, fellas, I appreciate the support. Bunny, send me the girl in your avatar so I can stop the anal testing. I’ll wash her off when I’m done. Promise.

did barbell complexes this morning, a whopping 100 lbs on the bar. I will do at least one more session at this weight before I go higher. This makes me breathe very very hard, and sweat alot. I hope that means it is doing me some good.

For got to mention weight yesterday, 295, down 2.

no lifties at lunch today cuz I have to leave early and hear about how brilliant and awesome my son is.

last night my son’s teachers confirmed his brilliance and awesomeness. I am a lucky daddy.

it was snowing, so I was cheated out of DRAGGY-SLED. So, this morning, I treated myself to some barbell complexes at 100 lbs like yesterday. the first set sucked, i have a lot of trouble racking the bar for front squats right after cleans, and my wrists were getting whiny. I finally cross armed it and finished, then grounded the bar long enough to get a grip again, and finished the set.

for some reason, it wasn’t as big a problem on the other 5 sets. front squats are really tough for me, they hit my lower back more than any other lift. its really hard to keep my back straight when I’m used to leaning forward when i squat. It must be doing something for me, it sucks so bad. eventually, I will add them as an accessory for the bbb.

In the meantime, I feel so beat up from this morning, that I think I’ll have to stay at this weight for a couple more sessions.

Deadlifties for lunchies

I suck moving from cleans to front squats as well. I hold the weight just under my chin and muscle through the front squats. Funny but front squats hit my low back less then just about any other lift. Bench hurts my back more then front squats.

I take it your son takes after his mother…

Good work, MJ. I think front squats suck balls, which is why I really need to get them back in the rotation. They really force you to have perfect posture.

no surprise on the lack of back impact, considering how much you zercher. But I’ve always kind of babied my back, so it is weak compared to the rest of me. That’s why I know I need to add front squats, cuz i am afraid to do zerchers like a big boy.

Do alot of GHR work before you start your zerchers. If you do not have access to a GHR machine just lean over a inclene bench adjusted so the top of the back rest is at you hips and lay face down over it with your head where your ass is supposed to be and lift your legs up in the air while squeezing your ass and knees together. start @ 3x10
