Old Lardass

no my brother, it is not much different. use rye instead of corn. distill as usual.

I make my triumphant return from page 2.

this is my last week in sparta until the end of feb. I did not train when I got into town yesternight. I woke up just early enough to drag my sled before breakfast today. I didn’t time it today, but I will tomorrow. I went .4 miles with sled + 20 lbs. on the way out, it felt really light, and I realized that all the pebbles on the side of the road from the snowplows made dragging very easy. on the way back, I dragged on the nice clean middle of the road, where it sucked a little more. felt good to do some work. my heel blisters (5) from xc skiing a week ago are at the “real damn itchy” stage of healing.

This afternoon, I will go in and bench, since I didn’t last week. I am not sure if I will squat in the morning after I drag, or in the afternoon after work. I just know that my performance is better in spine loaded excercises when I do them later. I guess it will depend on whether I get up early enough to drag and squat before breakfast. squats will end the 7th 5/3/1 cycle, and I am pretty happy with my progress. For cycles 8 and 9, I will be lowering my accessory weights, and drastically cutting my rest time, to make it a more fat-burning affair. I will also try to lift 4 times per week. I will definitely be dragging my sled, doing farmers walks and shit like that almost every morning so that I can peel of some of this lard. Oh yeah, I’ll diet too. I am reading yet another book on the wonders of protein and the evils of grains. Its pretty good. Its called “the Power Protein LifePlan”. its not new stuff, but it was referred to in a recent article on elitefts.com, and I got interested. Lots of info on anti-oxidants, minerals, and “why John is such a fat fuck”. So I will add some berries to my diet of meat, peanutbutter, potato chips and meat.

Otherwise, the world is a fine and wonderful place, and it is pretty damn cold in sparta.

train colder

I like the direction this thread has taken!

1/26/10 5/3/1 bench(1) cycle 7

250x 8. 9 would have been a pr, so the equivalent of 8 is unimportant.

I used the regular weights for my accessories, but I really cut down the rest period, and was breathing like a bellows, so I guess that’s good.

I went back to my room and drank much rye whiskey and stayed up late, so I didn’t drag or do complexes this morning. Unless my drinking buddy suddenly gets released from his hockey dad duties, I will be getting my squats this afternoon, and thus ending cycle 7 (i don’t really count the deload as part of the cycle). I will try to get in as many deload workouts as quickly as possible so I can start cycle 8. i will be working with lighter weights on the accessories and trying to make the training as “metabolic” as possible.

I’ll try and troll your logs and catch up a little tonight!

SteelyD, glad to see you’re a fellow boozer. I’m laying off it for a bit so I can convince myself I’m not an alcoholic. But who am I kidding?

John, just say no.

Nice lifting"… and drinkin’… I too, am a Rye whiskey man.

My son bought me a bottle of “Sortilege” for Xmas… it is Canadian Rye Whiskey and maple syrup combo… kinda thick like a liquer… but awesome none the less. Don’t get much more Canadian than that!

Reminds me of the movie ‘Elf’. He puts maple syrup on everything he eats.

I’d like to cover in maple syrup and eat the Mrs. Bunny in Bunnzillas new avatar.

Maple Syrup and Rye Whiskey. They only way to make that better would be with peanut butter and beef.

I decided that training would interfere with my Rye drinking, so I’m not doing any more of it on this trip. Last night I watched Inglourious Basterds, which was very much awesome. I followed that up with a russian sci-fi/fantasy called Day Watch, which was also pretty cool. I am not a real drunk, because I only had like 4 shots of rye mixed with my monster diet coke.

tonight, I have to decide whether or not to drag my ass to the movie house and watch Book of Eli, or just stay in the hotel and watch another dvd on the lappy. Serious DOMS has set in from my little bench work out a couple days ago, and my hip is giving me fits, so squatting is pretty much out of the question.

I will get back to training when I go home tomorrow. I don’t get to go out and play much, so I am going to take advantage and debauch my aged ass off while I am away from home.

so there.

Day Watch is cool, but you have to see Night Watch for it to make sense.

Tony’s right about Night watch and you’ve got some serious penance to do to make up for your debauchery. You will atone when you get home I’m sure.

Tough crowd. once again i save myself from page 2.

Harry, did you watch it in russian? I got night watch from the library, I just don’t know when I’m going to watch it. The 3rd book, Twilight Watch, has not come out as a movie yet.

As for my atonement, it started today:

sled+25lbs 1/2 mile, just a warmup.

sled+45lbs, did 8 sprints, 20 seconds each with 20 second rests. I’ll add a couple sprints each session until I am doing a bunch. somebody said this is good fat burning. or something.

So, here is my new plan. I want to get down to 250 as fast as I can, I just can’t tolerate my piggyness anymore. So, on the mornings that I can’t drag the sled, I’ll do barbell complexes. should do this 5 or 6 days per week.

I will go to 4 days/week on 5/3/1. I am dropping the weights a little on my accessories, and limiting my rests. I am also toying with the idea of dropping to 3 sets of 10 followed by barbell complex. I am not sure about this one though.

I started the Paleo diet today. This is sad for me, because eggs and cheese were a daily event for me. oh well. just need to try something new. The only big difference between this and Atkins is that fruit is allowed, dairy is not, and there is not so much fat. My post workout drink will have a cup of mixed berries instead of a cup of oatmeal.

I will go and squat at lunchtime, it will be lame and weak because I am lame and weak, but that will end the cycle. I’ll use the “deload” to get reacquainted with the lifts since january did not see me doing much lifting, then back on track.

wish me luck

Good luck!

I have not seen the Day Watch, Night Watch movies, but they sound pretty cool. Unfortunately, our local video store went under, so I may have to stoop to netflix if I ever want to watch a movie again.

Sounds like a plan. Good luck.

it does sound like a good plan…

that is allot of HIIT cardio but see how it goes,

Paleo hmmmm smells like crossfit.

yeah, Paleo was mentioned in the “2 crossfitters and a bucket of chalk” video, but they are not related. I don’t think…

2/1/10 5/3/1 squat(1) cycle 7
330x 3

9 would have been a PR, so I am embarassed

Wow. had a gigantic fight with my wife last night. one of us is fucked up crazy, and i am not entirely sure that it isn’t me. going back to therapy to see if its my fault.

In the meantime, when you don’t squat for a month, and you’re old and fat, doing sled sprints in the morning followed by squats in the afternoon might be a mistake. it certainly might have been a mistake for me.

I couldn’t drag this morning, and I have to do a demo for lunch, so no lifties or draggies today. I have to work tonight so I can’t get up early and drag, so I hope to get back in the barbell complex habit tomorrow morning.

even though my new training goals are as interesting as can be, yet i linger at the bottom of the page. Poor, sad me.

this morning I did barbell complexes. first time in a couple months. it really sucked. I only used 92 lbs. i had to take a little extra rest between the 2d and 3d sets so that my heart wouldn’t stop.

2/3/10 5/3/1 Military(deload) cycle 7.

just did the accessory work at the regular weights, 5x8 instead of 5x10. due to my lack of training during january, this was fairly (and embarassingly) difficult.

I’m trying to lift 4x/week, plus do fat loss junk in the mornings. when I work the nite before, I just do barbell complexes. if I don’t work the night before, I gets me some DRAGGY-SLED! which takes longer. I am on track to hit my “participation” goal for this week, so that’s a start.

Now if I can separate my emotions from my eating, maybe I can drop some lardage.

Glad you are back in the saddle MJ. hope the things settle out with the wife. I know what you are gon through

yeah, jwilly, its a pretty common story. I would feel better about it if I could be sure that I was being reasonable. But I’m not sure. I’m trying to concentrate on my training, it makes me feel better about myself, and when I feel better about myself I am a lot easier to get along with.

2/4/10 DRAGGY SLED!!
sled + 28 lbs (added 8), half mile brisk walk
sled + 48 lbs (added 8), 10 sprints, 20s sprints, 30s rests. this was supposed to be 25s on and 25s off, but I just couldn’t get past the 20s mark. My plan was to add some weight each day, add some time each day, and add 2 more sprints each day. After this mornings hell, I have decided that is a really bad idea. my current thought is to add sprints until I reach 20, then start lengthening the duration, then start adding weight. I am going to re-read the sprints article and see if that changes my mind. deadlifts for lunch today!

Plans need ajusting. Your plan wasn’t a ‘really bad idea’ it just needed to be fine tuned. I think its great you tried to do to much. It’s better then being a pussy and not try to push yourself at all.

You are training harder
