snatches from today. got 60 for 9 singles, then 70 for a single which ties my PR. this is only the second time I’ve ever snatched 70 before, and this one felt a lot better. took two attempts at 72.5 as well (bodyweight).

Thanks. I’d agree that I have the power to pull it high enough (hell, 80 comes up plenty high), I just don’t get under fast enough. It looks like I even caught the 70 above parallel, which to me says I am not getting under far enough, fast enough. Is that right?

Or that you’re just pulling the bar higher than you need to and then riding it down. I think speed will come with time as long as you always focus on getting under the bar as fast as you can. As you become more skilled at the technique, once you get to max weights you won’t be able to pull the bar much higher than the minimum needed to get under it. It’s then that speed becomes even more critical. My advice would be to just keep adding weight to the bar. Once you have the basic technique down just keep trying to increase your maximum and your technique will evolve over time as your body naturally finds the most efficient way to lift the bar.
clean and jerks from today 10 singles with 85kg (2kg below what I opened with at my last mock competition). jerked 90 for doubles from boxes after.
I’m officially 8.5 weeks out from competition (July 7). This will be my first actually comp (I’ve done mock competitions myself as a motivational tool for training). Looking for 75 and 100 at least. I need to get a 196 total to qualify for provincials March 30 2013. I’ve got three chances; July 7, November 3 and February 9.

CJ, I’d work on dip a tad more and driving up more. Looks like with such a shallow dip and drive you won’t be able to shift much weight. Take note when a lifter does a shallow dip and drive they usually have A LOT of weight on the bar and the bar flexes like a mofo…

wow looks odd. Attack the bar more. Your pull is definitely good for 80, your line is good as well. The 70 was a bit shaky but a make. The 72.5 the line was a tad out and you were just a bit slow and soft under the bar. BUT they are there. You just need to go at it. The 6 singles before it probably did not help you out so I’m sure you can get 75 if you didn’t do so many singles before it. Good work mate.

I had a meet on the weekend and I did ok
No PRs but I still have an injury so I was just happy to get a total. I think I’m getting used to getting on the platform in front of an audience and I actually managed to do full snatches for the first time ever in a meet.
Tonight I was trying to be speedy with some light snatches. I can’t really tell if I’m getting faster or not.

Looks good. good speed and depth. Some of them your balance was a tad in front but you managed to recover it as it was light. Remember to keep your heels planted at all times, looking better!
