^I know the feeling! I did what you said for my snatches by the way and just added a bunch of sets at lighter weights to get things going and it helped.

My snatches have gotten better but now I’m missing them because I’m weak at receiving the bar. I think that might be from 2-3 weeks of lousy snatches that didn’t go over 50kg. I think my first and second pull are good though. The weight feels so light until I try to catch it then ugh…

Tonight I did clean+FS+jerks and they weren’t as tough as I thought.

I’m glad it was helpful. Every now and then I’ll be weak on the catch of the snatch too. A nice heavy lift where everything else was perfect and the bar drops right into position, but as soon as it does one of my elbows goes soft and I have to dump it. So annoying haha.

I’ve noticed my brother started doing this when he started skimping on the hip drive. Your tendency is then to sit more upright and try and “pull back” (to be more specific, a lot more horizontal pull starts happening as opposed to vertical pull) with the arms instead of the hips thus forcing you to have to jump backwards.

Don’t know if that’s the case but might be helpful[/quote]

I could very be overpulling with the arms as I’ve been trying to focus on keeping the bar in closer on my cleans and I might just be fucking the whole thing up that way. Thanks man.

I posted this in the overhead press challenge thread but I might as well put it here:

Does anyone think these will help me with pressing out on the snatch or being weak receiving? If so I’ll keep doing them. But I don’t really think I’m that weak doing them so I’m not sure.

Coach Zygmunt Smalcerz has lifters do these before they snatch and then ‘press from split’ before they clean and jerk. I’m also noticing lifters that spend time at the OTC under the coach are looking quicker and putting up higher totals. Correlation?

Can’t hurt, but you will still need to catch your full snatches tight and with conviction.

Thanks NWM! I was actually going to go back to dig into your log to see where you talked about them. I seem to recall that’s where I saw them first and I thought you got them from someone in your club.

I think they’ll help you. Jim Storch (masters lifter American record holder in 40-44 age group, 105 kg class) does these fairly regularly (has a video on Pendlay’s forum in his training log). I give you kudos for being able to do them at all. I need to work my overhead strength for the same reason!!

I dont. If youre not weak, then you need to look at other reasons for not locking out the snatch. Most of the time, a crappy lock out is due to speed and/or poor pull. Youre banging the bar the bar out on your recent snatches and youre jumping away from the bar perhaps because your hips hurt.

I actually tried them after seeing Jim’s log, mostly for the hell of it but also I recalled he was having some issues with a soft catch too. He was improving too so I thought it might have helped him. Seemed like it was worth a try!

Thanks GqArtguy. Good point! I think my pull has been better the last few sessions. I still bang the bar out sometimes but I think I can feel the difference when I get it right. But I can see that it might be my speed. I looked at an older video and I think I was faster at the same weight.

Snatches felt so light but couldn’t get under 55kg after about a dozen tries grrrr

Clean PRs though. I was just doing cleans but 70kg felt good so I tried to jerk but it was doomed. Just did the clean for 72kg. I tried 74kg but clarked it twice.
