happy update: seeing this foot/shin specialist that has worked with the Bears, White Sox, etc… time to get this shit sorted.

Also, a 94kg lifter came to my gym to lift, a pretty darn good and strong lifter from Lindenwood University (Derek Johnson is the coach, I think that’s his name). Seeing him do the lifts made me so jealous, I NEED to get back into this ASAP. fuck you, shin, fuck YOU.

oly lifting misses you, peanut butter andy

I came in to the gym feeling really good. Felt fast and strong. Need to sort my shizzle so I don’t pull the light weights too wildly and keep the line good. 128 is near…153 is there. 3 sessions until my comp so I’ll take it easier on Saturday but not too easy and wind it down to openers on Mon and Wed.

The King of American Weightlifting (Remastered Version) - YouTube this guy?

No, that guy is a 56 or 62 kg lifter. He is one of the Barnes’ brothers. I don’t know who the 94 kg lifter is!!

Haven’t tried the looking up thing for high bar back squats yet - but I will!!
I have thought about buying my own bar… But I’ve got a bunch of set-up costs at the moment involved with moving countries…
Not sure why they have it in their head that a women’s bar will set them back $5,000… I mean, sure $NZD doesn’t do so well re currency conversion, but still, is that an estimate from getting a competition bar shipped from Sweden or something?? You can definitely get Pendlay Training bars (which are serviceable, I hear) for less than $1,000… I’ll give it some time (since I’m obviously new and weak) but plan on sending them some links in the future… They have these strangely flimsy bumper plates, too. The greens are cracked and nearly broken in half already… Not sure what is up with that (not really a gym that is geared for Oly Lifting, obviously).

Can get some coaching (and use a women’s bar) out at this other gym (commute away) on Saturdays. Will head out there tomorrow

The video he posted was referring to the coach, not the lifter I met. The lifter I met was Cody something, who does 117/140 or thereabouts. Strong kid though, front squats 190 for a double maybe?

I got my Pendlay Nexgen Bushing bar for $350 from Muscle Driver USA. I love it. The 15kg women’s bar is also $350. Not sure what it would cost to have one shipped to New Zealand though?

yeah… i think you about double the cost for $NZD then there is shipping…

thanks for the link, though. i will look into this. maybe i can pay one off or something…

MuscleDriver Australia is opening up soon where you should be able to get any of Pendlay’s products.

f0cking bad ass mate! 110/130! CONGRATS!

IMAGINE what you can do when you taper for 3 weeks, no moring sessions, dropping half of your training, only the evening sessions and then you will lift some serious weight at the comp

Sn looked SHARP

Keep it up and ATTACK HEAVY WEIGHTS ALL THE TIME. This is what you MUST LEARN AND APPRECIATE. The weights you lift doesn’t matter, it’s the amount of effort and the way you attack weights when your beat up from training then when you taper you smash it at the comps

Good luck at the comp, Ed!

Got more in me than 110 for sure. Just didnt want to many misses this morning. Both times I’ve hit 110 have been after a morning squat session too, so when I’m fresh and its first lift of the day it’s getting DOMINATED! I’m definately cleaning 140 before the year is out, jerk is another matter but still! Hopefully I’ll be feeling SWEET for the Open!

Cheers for the wished Paperclip.

Nice lifting Ed!!

I got some coaching today
Very happy with the Oly gym…

Not so happy about doing doubles… But I’m sure it will be good for me…

Nice to get some immediate feedback.

Will be sure to get out there every Saturday.
Think I did make the right decision in joining the other gym, though.
They will be able to help me get a stronger squat, I think, and it is much easier for me to get to them.

Wrecked today. Guess doubles means I doubled my training volume heh.

Could be worse, imagine you’d have to start with triples when you’re only used to singles (like in my case, when I first joined a club)

Hey, guys. After a three and a half year hiatus from competing and a year and a half w/o so much as touching a weight, I’ve decided to return to competitive lifting. I’ve spent the past six months getting back into competitive shape and, though I haven’t quite reached my all-time best lifts, I’m pound-for-pound a little stronger than I was before.

My best lifts at 74kg bw were: snatch 92.5kg, clean and jerk 115kg, back squat 147.5kg, and front squat 137.5kg. At 68.5kg bw, my current lifts are: snatch 87.5kg, clean and jerk 105kg, back squat 142.5kg, and front squat 130kg. My goals are to snatch 92.5kg and clean and jerk 112.5kg and to total 200kg in comp by february/march.

I use to train with a Bulgarian/Greek methodology, 11 sessions a week w/ 8 of those sessions going to maximum (95%+). These days I have other priorities, so I’ll only be training 5-6 sessions a week w/ only 3 max effort sessions.

Anyway, I’ll be updating my training here. I’ll try to post some vids if I can get a hold of a camera. I no longer have a coach or a team now, so I could use the feedback!

Hi rock, it’s great that there’s another 77kg lifter among us!
