Today it does ![]()
Was there a study released today I’m unaware of?
I have no idea: I stopped reading studies a LONG time ago, because there’s always a new study that will conclude something different from the old one, many tend to be poorly run, use too small a sample size, self-reporting, non-compliant college kids, etc etc. I find it silly to base training and nutrition off of studies.
Since we’re on the subject of new food-prep toys, I picked up one of these from Costco. I often make steak/chicken, because my wife’s vegetarian. This is even better than I hoped:
Same. I’ve been doing an 8-week “Base Building” that has me running 3x a week. I did a 7.2 miler yesterday fasted, and felt great. I was afraid I’d bonk, but didn’t happen at all.
I like this style of trash talking. I’ll go:
You losers seem to be looking worse by the day, and your lame Training Logs must be listing weights in ounces, given the lack of anything resembling muscle on your pathetic frames.
I have a similar product I haven’t cracked the seal on yet. My intent was to cook up a bunch of stuff on it while the Mrs was away…but COVID has her teleworking ALL the time, haha. She doesn’t care for the odors of my food. Sacrifices of being a trophy husband.
I’m pretty much doing morning fasted everything for now. Went back to fasting for lipids and stuff. Not noticing any real difference except less gastric distress during hard cardio. That’s good enough for me.
I’m not sure what you mean by “gastric distress” but I run fasted because heartburn seems to result from anything more than a handful of plain cheerios for me, and the burped-up taste of whatever I’ve eaten is a distraction. I do drink coffee with milk beforehand, though, so I’m not sure I actually am fasted.
One of the experiments I’m going to try is separating my cardio from lifting days, and maybe moving away from auto-piloting into fasted workouts.
But we’ll see. My primary focus is in the kitchen, and in adding in short activity bursts to get my metabolism back on track. I’m working out, but it’s not my main thrust right now.
Every damn time I eat Cheerios … lol
Yep, definitely a good bunch showing up. 53 Before entries so far. Not a record though. Last year we had 59 Befores but only 40 Afters (because… 2020). In 2019, we actually had 63 Befores and only 35 Afters.
I don’t think we’ve even had 100% completion, but it’d be cool to see the margin shrink more.
I get indigestion and extremely excessive gas (both directions AND bloating) from even a small amount of activity after eating, so I do better when I separate food and physical pursuits. I’m at 6 days of cardio right now - 8-10 minutes HIIT after lifting and 20-30 minutes LISS/recovery on off days. Tacking the HIIT onto lifting and having the off day to recover before lifting again has helped keep the added cardio from tanking my strength (so far - I still have plenty of time to mess that up). Not necessarily doing cardio to drop weight, just hoping to stay off BP meds.
There’s nothing wrong with focusing on the kitchen and allowing training to fall as needed, especially if it keeps you motivated!
Trash talking via the medium of grub?
Fire a special mix kebab with a naan bread down yer neck. Anabolic as feck
Last two posts made me insanely hungry.
I too am doing fasted cardio, purely because coffees first priority and I don’t want anything else in my stomach when doing cardio. I also have some hmb knocking around (spent many years trying many supplements only to find what I already knew, the vast majority are bunk and basically protein and hard work win) which I take prior just because they’re there, whether they’d spare me any catabolism (if there was even any given my bf levels) is anyone’s guess.
Just finished working out and had this set down in front of me.
Good luck to all the people dieting this year!
What’s the benefit of the ninja grill vs. just a griddle or something? We have the foodi, which is the slow cooker/ air fryer/ whatever else combo and I’m a big fan.
Gross!
I don’t like this game anymore
So are you cleared to gain or not skinny boy ??
Still in the air.
I’m no chef, but with this thing you put the built-in thermometer in the middle of a steak, and dial in the “doneness” you want and then leave. It works perfectly. I’ve used cheaper Foreman grills and griddles, but they don’t compare. Also, this will “air fry” potatoes and even seasoned chicken thighs to give a “fried” feeling with no oil or frying. It does other things I haven’t bothered with yet. (I sound like a commercial)
If you can’t swim with the big boys, better get out of this Challenge now, Nancy. There’s no room for softies in this hardcore event. [Ouch. I think I pulled a muscle typing that too hard].
I hope you get kickbacks, because I just bought one. I either like you now or hate you more… we’ll see which, soon!
When will you know. I have hold weight until comp at end of Feb and then I can start to eat. Maybe you will get green light around the same time !!
