I had hip surgery in Dec 2017 and shoulder surgery in June 2019 and never stopped training. Let me know if you need ideas for training while you’re recovering. My philosophy has always been that just because one part of me is broken doesn’t mean I have to let the rest of me fall apart, too.

Im in! Nothing like a confronting photo of yourself seeing all the hard work you’ve put in the past couple of years, completely covered by body fat. Epic work on my part over the last few months… chocolate and pizza and depression.
I know there’s some muscle under the 6 kgs of body fat I gained, I just want to see it and get my confidence and health back.

Erg has moved into the heart of the house, because I want to do short bursts of intensity throughout the day to make up for work-at-home lack of activity. I can’t seem to remember to stop on my way to lunch or after work, so I’m hoping this helps. Maybe if I create a tripping hazard of it on the way to the refrigerator I can kill two birds with one stone?
I’ve got a rower in my living room too
and a spin bike in my bed room, and a complete gym in my sunroom.

I actually did this. To get to the couch I have to go around my bike and step over dumbells.
It does work.

I’m gonna give away my secrets: if you want some “guilt free quesadillas” during your transformation, I picked these up from “Mr Tortilla”

Then I got a cheap quesadilla maker from Kohls like so
Sprayed some avocado oil on the maker, used fat free shredded cheddar cheese, turkey bacon and organic turkey breast deli meat from Costco. Totally answered the mail for quesadilla cravings.
Who is doing morning fasted cardio/conditioning? Been how I’ve started the past few days. I think we’re at the time of year where science says it’s super effective for fat burning. Get on it quick before we decide it’s catabolic again!

I actually really like fasted morning cardio, but it’s a much easier schedule for me if I lift in the morning and tack some cardio on after. When I need to ramp it up, I can add cardio during lunch - the obvious bonus there is I also don’t fill an hour eating.

I prefer lifting in the AM as well, although I don’t tend to do it fasted, unless it’s a morning I can have breakfast with my kid. Then I’ll put off my meal so I can sit at the table with them and eat.
I go back and forth all the time on how to handle morning calories. I absolutely have a noticeable drop in performance when I’m fasted, which I don’t love - it mostly shows itself in me being more wussy at the end of the workout. On the other hand, I don’t feel great if I shove something in me as soon as I get up. I think drinking some intraworkout carbs is often my best compromise, but I also think managing my daily calories is a little easier if I’m not throwing that sugar in to kick off the day.
I like keeping it super light for the morning meal pre-training. I have these “better oats” that are 100 calorie packets of oatmeal that are nice on heavy training days, and will otherwise eat 3 eggs from my microwave egg cooker. I recently got into Birchbinder’s “Keto Waffles”, which also answer the mail quite well.
Watch out, I did my first conditioning day in 6+ months the other day, the fat is just peeling off of me right now. I might just upload my after picture later today.

Actually science says that for a natural the difference is minimal. An enhanced guy can leverage some compounds to benefit greatly from fasted cardio though. I’ll still probably do some easy fasted cardio later in the cut though
