Same with the partial reps.

If I see a huge fucker with 22" arms doing them, the LAST thing on my mind will be, “he doesn’t know how to lift”.

The evidence that he does is staring me right in the face.

Results rule over all…for real.
Exactly, if I see a huge developed mother fucker doing something. I am going to give it a try and see if it works for me. I like his rows he does in the smith machine chest press. They destroy the lats.

Damn I thought I invented those. Been doing them on a Hs bench and its one where handles actually come in together. It’s fantastic for both chest and back contraction becuae of it

His ROM is shortened yes but if you look at his technique, the way that he is lifting the weight it is pretty obvious that he has complete tension on the target muscle groups. His lifts are smooth. He presses in and around the sticking point of the lift, where the lift is most difficult and it is clear that he is using a pretty strong mind-muscle connection to focus on the key muscle groups. He has complete focus on the correct tissues.

The guy with easily the best chest development I ever met did all of his pressing on a smith machine and the weight never touched his chest nor was locked out. His chest was like an armor plate.

I think his technique is fine for his purposes (coming from an ex-powerlifter) and clearly, the results don’t lie. Some of you may also know that Bill Kazmaeir would do a bench press variation where he only pressed for partials from the chest up to keep tension on the pecs. Worked for him

I also think that his physique is awesome. His is balanced, full, thick with round muscle bellies.
Yeah, I would disagree there completely.

For instance, I don\t need to do deadlifts to have a really wide back. They do not work for me because of my overall structure…in the sense that I personally end up with more back problems than results in the long run. Some of that is because of accidents…the rest is because of my overall structure.

That doesn’t mean I am big IN SPITE OF what I do. I am big because I know what the fuck works for me from experience and it may not be best for most people.

We are INDIVIDUALS with different structures and genetics. Because what works for one guy isn’t what works for you it does NOT mean they got big in spite of their effort.

Comparing that to someone who is just lean isn’t accurate because you can be lean by simply NOT eating much. It doesn’t exactly take years of effort and consistency in the gym to not eat much.

Saying you get lean by “simply not eating much” is a little unfair.
If being lean (subjective term, I know) was that easy there would be a lot more lean guys walking around everywhere.
It is not that easy for most people.

Gotta agree. If being lean was that easy there wouldn’t be so many threads on every forum about how to get lean. And I would see a lot more lean ppl in the gym

It may not be fair but there are THOUSANDS of small lean skinny guys walking around.

There are not THOUSANDS of huge fuckers walking around who got big in spite of their training. They usually had to work pretty damned hard at it.

Those guys who are lean with no muscle simply had to not eat much.

You see lean people all of the time outside of the gym…they just aren’t muscular…which is the point.

No one has to set foot in a gym to be really lean and small.

I don’t see lean people all the time anywhere

Nail on the head here. A lot of trainees that talk about training bench for their chest end up making the movement a tricep exercise. They bounce off of the chest and focus too much on the lockout of the lift. Working within the point of contraction on the lift can mean a very abbreviated ROM, but the results are worth it.

yeah any ‘lean’ person I’ve ever met (I mean impressively lean, not just not fat), even if they didn’t lift, played a good amount of sports or cardio.

I do. I went through South Park last week (my old neighborhood) and most of the dudes walking around with their shirts off (common in that area) are leaner than most here…and “in shape” in the sense that they probably only do push ups and play basketball. They are relatively not very big but are “developed” and lean.

Like I said, I think some of you need to get out more.

I have always seen that there are more “genetically well built” people in rougher neighborhoods. Maybe it is how you have to be to deal with life.

I am sure someone will come along and miss the point to what was said completely.

Lol I need to get out more. I am out everyday. So not sure what you mean. I’ve spent time on both coasts in big cities outside of the cities. Been to good neighborhoods and bad. I live in a college town so one would thing there are more health conscious and madison is also known as being health conscious so…elaborate on get out more. And way to use such a small population as the I see lean people everywhere. So everywhere is now one neighborhood and or bad neighborhoods.

And I don’t think there is a point to your statment so there isn’t one to miss

If you say so.

My point is I do see lean people walking around here often just like I see overly fat people.

I see more really lean people in poorer neighborhoods who are not out of shape.

This is what was written before.

If you do NOT see any of this, then yes, maybe your surroundings keep you from seeing lean people who are small and don’t train for it like someone who is very muscular.

A Big city is New York, LA, Houston, Miami. Have you been to any of these and seen no lean people?

The ones I mentioned are very active, they just don’t lift weights in a gym…which was the point.

Yes, it IS easier to be small and lean than to be very very muscular.

If you don’t even have to lift to be really lean or make sure meals are eaten on time, how they can be on the same level of effort?

Please point me to where I said I see 0 lean people. I said I don’t see them everywhere worded differently I don’t see them frequently. And somehow I am giant guess I definition of lean is a bit different.

To your question I have been to New York, San Fran, LA, Miami, Boston, DC, Seattle. Ect the list goes on and I see some lean ppl but I certainly wouldn’t say the majority are. Thanks for teaching me what a big city is lol

Skinny =/= Lean

No one said the majority of the people are really lean. Why does it take several pages on this site for any one point to be made?

Somehow you all are now arguing that you don’t have to lift to be really lean???

Bottom line, yes, you can be really fucking lean and NOT lift weights and NOT pay strict attention to diet by simply not eating much and being active.

That is one point no one can deny.
