I work out 5 times a week first thing in the a.m. Usually workouts consist of lifting for 1 hour minimum, sometimes 1.5 hours.
I have noticed that on the days that I DON’T do cardio, I don’t sweat much. Even days that I do HIIT for 15 mins, when I do sweat, its just not that much.
Is this normal? When I would cycle in the summer, I sweat quite a bit.
I would like to say that I don’t sweat much either when I lift. I feel exhausted and drained afterwards, but I don’t sweat much. Cardio is the opposite: I usually sweat quite a bit. I don’t know that this is a problem, but maybe someone with some more experience will chime in.
From my small amount of experience, I usually only really sweat when I’m doing heavy compound lifts- especially stuff that requires a lot of the core. Squats and deadlifts really get me pouring.
But it also depends on your intensity and time between sets I’d think.
I’ve also found as I’ve gained more weight I’ve been getting a hotter more easily, and as a result sweat a little more than I used to.
I only sweat when I do a compound lower body exercise, like squats. Upper body exercises don’t make me sweat at all on their own. Of course, if I do upper body after lower body, the upper body exercises make me sweat even more.
I’m guessing it is because lower body exercises involve larger muscle groups, which produce more heat and raise the temperature more, so the body sweats to get rid of the heat.
I don’t sweat when I take long rest periods in between sets…when I superset antagonistic exercises I sweat like crazy.
Also, if you want to sweat, wear a sweatshirt. I always seem to soak through my t-shirt underneath. And, you don’t look like that gross guy sweating all over the equipment.
I should add that to the list of weight room pet peeves…that guy who sweats so bad he’s almost drooling all over everything…there’s one of those at my gym.

Well, I work out hard, usually one warm up set, followed by 3-4 sets of 5-6 reps using weight that causes me to fail or come close to failur during each set. I rest for about 2 mins between sets. I lift heavy…heavy for me that is.
When you say “Intensity” or you talking about speed of lifting, rest, or how heavy? I would guess that all of those things could be “more intense” if I used lighter weight…then I could rest less, do faster reps… is that better?

So 3x5 or 4x6? Make it 90s or 60s and see if you sweat.
From what I know, intensity refers to relative weight. For instance Poliquin says that every 3rd workout lower volume but not intensity, so MW you do 5x5 Squat, Bench, Row and on Friday you do 1x5 (i.e. ramping to a weight 10% higher than monday) etc.
I’m a sweaty SOB. Whether doing supersets or heavy compounds, I sweat buckets. The time I don’t soak my shirt is the time I know I didn’t go hard enough.
