Well, I’m at work so I’ll just give a quick recap, and I’ll post up the video’s of my attempts later.
I got up at 6:30am to take my time getting ready and everything, got there a little before 9:00am and they started lifting about 10. I sat around for a couple hours waiting for squats to be done. I wish I had some video’s of the squats, because they were fcking ridiculous. NO ONE was getting red lighted… one guy hit a 955 squat but I kid you not his legs were at a 45 degree angle and they passed it…
Anyway, finally got to bench and I opened with 275 and it wasn’t too bad so I jumped to 300 and got that. Went for 310 third attempt and lost my tightness bringing it down and just couldn’t muscle it back up.
Few hours later… got pretty tired sitting around etc. Managed to wake up and get kinda pumped up for deadlifts and warmed up to 405 and it just didn’t feel as light as it should have. I opened with 540 and it went up a lot slower than it should have. My plan has been to hit 605 (5 lb pr) but I told them 580 second attempt but then said screw it, I don’t wanna settle and decided to just go all or nothing and attempt 605. Well I got pumped up and ready to go but it just wasn’t happening that day. 605 only came up a couple inches off the floor, which is usually my strong point too. Considering I did 600 before I was kind of disappointed, but wasn’t surprised when the strength just wasn’t there.
I think this was just due to poor training planning and just ran myself into the ground with never taking any time off to rest up. My bench and deadlift were really strong a couple months ago, and I should have taken some time off or a deload week or something after hitting some big 1RM PR’s.
What’s done is done and I think I learned more about my own body from all of this. With all my time off I’ve been doing a ton of reading up on west side styles of training and decided I want to give it a try and also get in better shape with GPP and cardio, etc.
I think I am at the point where I could benefit from only one week or two of an ME exercise and then switch it up. I was looking back through my training log and for the most part, I don’t think hitting the same ME exercise for 4 or 5 weeks in a row is benefiting me, especially when we are working up to maxes almost every week. I tend to hit a couple good PR’s then lose the momentum.
I think westside will especially benefit my deadlift, which is what I am most concerned about anyway. In a nutshell, I will do a lot more work for my upper back, hamstrings, and lower back.
Well, I better get back to work… I will get the video’s up later on.
