And I’d say “your cut” is tuition and board.

This is not even close to a full time job. Like I said I have no problem with them working. In fact I think it’s stupid they can’t.

I think getting a free education, the rest of us would have to pay for and likely be in debt for, is a pretty sweet system for someone with all that talent.
Really? A free education?

What if that “free” education costs you millions in potential money you could have earned off your own talents?

Your viable option right now is to attend college, jump through the hoop. Then turn pro.

a 19 year old actor can make millions off their talent. A 19 year old football player can’t. And somehow you’re acting like they are lucky by being controlled in these manners?

Damn, this is a GOOD regulation?
It’s not a regulation it’s what the FREE MARKET has decided. Isn’t that what you wanted?

Seriously H all these poor student athletes that would make millions end up making millions.

How’s that commercial go, the vast majority of student athletes major in something other than sports.

If people don’t like the situation they can create a bran new league for athletes 18-20. Why has that not happened?
The free market decides a college kid can’t make money by signing his name? Lol. In what world?

The NCAA has RULES (regulations) that limit what kids can do. Many of these rules don’t make sense. Hence the thread.

NOTHING free about it. Not a thing. You’re getting stuff twisted my man.

In a free market Johnny Manziel makes a ton of money. See one year from today when he’s actually in a free market. He is getting ready to enter a free market. A free market where he will be handsomely rewarded.

No they don’t. many of those guys value in college with their talents is as high as it ever goes. They can’t make money off of it though, but everyone else can.

Fuck it, the athletes shouldn’t even have to go to class. They shouldn’t even need to pick a major either. They are just there for football anyway.

KU makes WAY TOO MUCH money off basketball to stop. Wiggins was supposed to work at a grocery store? That’s your answer.

C’mon man. That isn’t even worth talking about.

The scholarships are the sham so they can be underpaid and controlled without everyone being up in arms about it. It’s a good deal for some kids, a horrible deal for others. Sounds like Obamacare. Why complain about that? You don’t have to get the insurance. You can pay the fine.

How talented are you when you rely on a number of other people ? How do you measure this ?

The ONLY exception I can think of is Barry Sanders, who had not a shred of an offensive line, yet ran like a man who stole something.

The thing is, colleges could go a long in avoiding what is going to be a complete disaster if they just eliminated the pro-am distinction and some of the bullshit rules they have, even if colleges didn’t independently pay the players.

You HAVE to go to college for one year and then you GET to go to the pros if you’re good enough.

Your logic was going down the everyone has options road. I thought you just said the NCAA was a free market? It’s not, that is the point.

We already have a league for those people. It’s called the NCAA. Why do you think no one starts one? Costs a lot of money. Many of those kids talents would pay big bucks and they can be on billboards and all sorts of stuff and not make money. They can be on posters and not be paid for it.

How is it not a free market. You are free to try out and play in the NCAA if you are chosen. If you are good enough we will pay for your education, room, and board. You will perform, in your given sport, if you wish to continue being compensated in this way. If you don’t like it, there’s the door.

Free.

So what, make another league. So what if it costs money. It costs a lot of money to start an accounting firm too, it still happens.

“Many of those kids talents would pay big bucks and they can be on billboards and all sorts of stuff and not make money. They can be on posters and not be paid for it.”

Then start a league that allows this and make bank. It’s that simple.

Paying student athletes will crush scholarship dollars. It’ll be no different than the NFL. Schools will negotiate for the top talent.

Ok, let’s slow this down one more time. You left out some parts: "While you are here we will compensate you in a certain way. You will NOT be allowed to be compensated in other ways no matter what or you forfeit your eligibility. We are the ones to make the money off YOU, you can make money off you IF you are good enough in 1-2 years.

Don’t like it choose the other option that doesn’t exist. While you are under our house you live by our rules. Our big rule is that we make money off you, and you are penalized if you try to make money off you. If you are good enough you can make money off you eventually." Not right now. Serve your time boy. We own you. You can always walk away.

This is how we currently do things.

The NCAA does. So why support it? Schools already negotiate for the top talent. They want to be the place where you go for your one or two years. They work hard to make that happen.

You think they THOUGHT Andrew Wiggins was going to graduate? No. He was supremely talented and they wanted him. It’s how you win. You get the best people. The best people get you (universities) the TV deals, the jersey sales, etc. It’s a nice game they got going.

These things already happen. Loosening restrictions frees them up. You let kids make money off themselves LIKE EVERYONE ELSE CAN and it will fix many problems. Mainly, the kids will be free from unnecessary regulation.

A scholarship is a form of compensation. They make “money”.

College sports are a prison now? Or slavery? That’s ridiculous.

It may fix some problems, it will add just as many.
