I am very interested in your diet talk, so BRING IT ON.
Generally low starchy carb works for me. I don’t restrict fruits or veg, but try to stay away from bread and the like. Good on you for stopping the low carb if it wasn’t working for you.

Sounds like you have a good plan! Keep at it ![]()
Low carb is no fun, what do you base your calorie cycling on?
Had a go at Smith Kickbacks the other day. They are good. I couldn’t remember whether you were doing them from push-up position with knees down or knees up or what, though, so I just kinda flopped my upper body. Will have another go now that I’ve looked at your vid again. Was kinda surprised that my hip flexors actually seem mobile enough to let me do that ![]()
Good on you for entering a comp. Will be interested to hear about your process of leading up to it etc. I’ll leave the circuits to you, I’m far too lazy for those…
ultimate Frisbee? I have never heard of that and am frightened! And out of breath just thinking about it.
You’ve got a great head on you my Nikki:) OHHHHH and complexes! i like barbell ones…i always start thinking oh yeah, no big deal then set 3 i’m going …maybe i’ll just finish up with some carido instead :{
one called the exercise i read a few years ago was a crosgrove bastard. not fun after three or so.
front squat->push press->over to a back squat–> push press–> front squat.
Sweet! I think you look smokin as it is, so if you lean out and get those musckels poppin, you’re going to look incredible. And i think its a brilliant idea to use this experience to get a better idea of what competing is all about, especially for future comps. I think all first comps (or first anythings really) are a bit of a learning curve.
I’m with you - low carb sucks for me. I feel and think so much better with a moderate amount of carbs in my diet.
HAHAH! I love how you’re competitive w Ultimate Frisbee. I’m a competitive person too. It can get ugly…
ps. Brute, I like that idea!
“In the end you will question your beliefs”
Finally back in the gym today.
With the help of Timmy, I got a routine that will allow me to hit all muscle fibers. I have high-rep days, moderate rep days, and low rep days. Today was a high rep day, and silly me thought that it will be easy.
Not quite. I never felt so nauseous before in MY LIFE. Bless my little mother’s heart for calling to see if I wanted to get picked up. I wouldn’t have been able to handle the walk home. Of course she got nervous though because she thought I was going to throw up in her car. I would’ve too… if I had the energy.
Exercises are supersetted, with less than a minute rest between sets. And all exercises are 15 reps.
Lower Body
A1) Barbell Jump Squat
A2) Back Squat
45/65, 45/75, 45/85, 45/85
B1) Stiff legged deadlift
B2) Prone leg curl
85/35, 85/45, 85/45, 85/35
Some guy approached me between sets to ask what I was training for. Then he said that he likes how I work out or something or the other.
I think I was paying more attention to the techno song my heartbeat was playing.
C1) Leg Extension
C2) Seated Leg Curl
50/30, 60/30, 70/40, 70/40
Now some other dude wants to talk about some nonsense when I’m ON the seated leg curl.
“Oh, I see you going from one machine to the next. Why?”
I seriously hate when people try to talk to me any time not during a rest.
I just said “It’s a superset” with a not-so-friendly facial expression and he said “Oh okay” and left.
He got the hint.
D1) Dumbell Swings
D2) Barbell Hip Thrusts
30/100, 35/100, 40/100
If I wasn’t walking like I had a broomstick up my ass before, then I was now.
Bulgarian Split Squats
15# DBs x 15 x 3
Calves
4 sets of 15, 2x 110, 2 x 130

just stopping in Nikki, find the diet talk very interesting…what made you choose Figure over BB? Just curious-I wouldn’t do either…
No, you’re a PLer, duh ![]()
I have less than 6 months of serious training under my belt. I’m not that delusional to enter BB ![]()

Thank you kindly Gawgeous

I will definetely have more diet talk in here.
I’m a carboholic, I love carbs in any shape or fashion.
Low carb just wasn’t reasonable to do at this stage. Whether I like it or not, gotta do it before comp.

Thank you Darlin.
That V in your back is awesome BTW
K-Man32 wrote:

Hmm, cool question.
My calorie cycling is random. If I don’t even know what my diet’s going to look like for the week, then there’s no way my body can adapt to anything.
So at the end of each night, I think of how much I’ll like to eat the next day, set my macros 40-30-30, then go from there.

Aww thank you Amor.
I can’t wait to do a barbell one. It’ll be soon though.

Thanks darling, it will be nice to see what muscles I really do have.
We just bought a fish tank that we have to set up, so excuse my brevity.
I weighed in at 141.5 this morning. It’s just because adding the carbs back in, er… made me regular again.
Awkward moment haha
OK, now it’s time to add the fish.
that workout looks like it sap my will to live. seriously.
fishes! how nice of you to provide fresh snacks for my kitty ![]()
Haha it did. But my masochistic ass still loved it.
As for diet today, the goal was 1700 calories.
Got in 1624 calories
Carbs 35%
Protein 31%
Fat 34%
Damn! That’s one sweet workout!
I <3 BB squat jumps - they’re killer.
I seriously don’t understand why people come talk to you while you’re trying to catch your breath. Can’t they see you’re, like, busy working out…you’re hot. Nuff said.
I’ve seen Nikki’s workout outfits and they’d attract me like a moth to fire ![]()
My baggy pants and T’s keep the creepers creepin at other peeps which is fine with me. Although there is a “No tank top” rule at my current gym to keep the brotard activity to a minimum. I can’t wait to take vids in camis at the other gym and show of some progress… maybe a curl vid? lol.
Nikki, I’m very impressed you’ve committed to a competition. With your work ethic and discipline no doubt you’ll kill it.
I hear you on the carb-addict things. Those suckers are a serious drug. Eat a cookie–eat eleventy more cookies. Hang tough.
Thanks Maschy. I don’t know why people bother me either though. I look a hot mess and I’m apparently busy. That must be the new “Talk to me” green light.
N, no tank top rule? Geez. What about sports bras? Y’know I love my sports bras ![]()
Thank you Nadia, that means a lot.
My mom is currently eating the new M&Ms with pretzels right next to me. How I’m just sitting here on the computer and not in Attack mode is beyond me.
OK, did upper body, high reps today.
Same supersets, all exercises are 15 reps, no rest between sets since they were antagonist supersets and I was short on time. I had to cut out a couple of exercises from my plan to get my workout in 45 minutes but it got the job done.
A1) Barbell Row
A2) Incline Fly
50/10, 60/20, 60/20, 60/20
I was supposed to do my pull-ups/bench superset first, but some woman was hogging the assisted machine. She did every variation of pull ups and dips imaginable. But it’s cool, I didn’t have to wait after the rows and flys.
B1) Assisted Pull up
B2) DB Bench Press
125/27.7, 110/27.5, 110/27.5
C1) Overhead dumbbell press
C2) Lateral Raises
15/5, 20/5, 20/5
D1) DB Front Raises
D2) Rear delt fly
10/5 x 3
E1) Barbell curl
E2) Tricep Pressdown
30/30, 40/40, 40/40
As for eats, the plan was 1500 calories today.
I would have consumed 1496 calories by bedtime.
It was a bit tricky since I had to go to Wendy’s for lunch because I took a super long time at the pet store today (it was Part 2 of Operation Aquarium)
BTW, the Baja salad is simply amazing. I got the half salad, because I’m sure we all know that a salad can have more calories than a burger ![]()
Anyway, macros:
Carbs 34% (134g)
Protein 29% (113g)
Fat 37% (65g)
Fat came from the guacomole on the salad… I <3 guacomole though ![]()

Does anyone want to see my aquarium? Yeah?
ALRIGHT!
My first aquarium experience was a bit of a downer. The guy who was supposed to assist us was so negative; telling us we couldn’t have a lot of the fish because they’ll get big and we have such a small tank. Gee dude, it’s 27 gallons, we can have a couple fish, y’know? Then the manager was awesome and made me feel better about my itty bitty fishbowl that I apparently have.
However we only got 4 yesterday, because of the small fishbowl, tu sabes? So part 2 of Operation Aquarium (today) was to get more fish.
This pic is taken after all 10 of them are in, but they’re shy little buggers, so you can’t see any. But they’re slowly starting to swim around and not hide when they see people.

This is a picture of Coy I believe. I named her Coy because when I saw her at the store, she kept hiding behind the rock; she was coy. I thought it was so adorable, so I had to get her.
Oh and yes, I did name all my fish. One of them is ready to breed as well. Lucky me, I’m gonna be a grandma! Her name is Tessa.
Then there’s Cora, Coral, Mikey (he’s an algae eater, not really social), Coo (all my Cychlids’ name start with a C), Amber, Jade (Jade’s actually a boy, and should be hooking up with Tessa shortly), Chance, and Blair.
So that’s the tank for now.

Oooo cichlids, awesome choice! They can be very interesting fish. My parents had two mating pairs when I was growing up. The two pairs were very competitive and territorial with each other. When the one pair had babies we had to fence them off to protect them from the other pair - they chowed down on the first bacth of babies. Kinda traumatic as a kid I guess, but they were much more interesting than goldfish!
I like the workout format! Great planning!
Fish tanks are a lot of fun, I had a 55 gallon full of cool fish but had to give it to a friend when I moved. Funny thing is they now have multiple fish tanks and spent thousands on them. OOPS
Nice supersetting mama! I’ve never done a rear delt fly. Another thing I should try.
I love aquariums and can watch them for hours. And yours look lovely! I like to give the inner monologues of the fish while they swim about: In a fish voice “Hm…I’ve never seen this bit of coral…wait, what’s that? A castle?”
