Thats not a political statement that is just being an American, we are far removed from our rural roots.

Like 460 said not everyone can live the life, I cant live the life now.

Do you process your own gas?

Do you catch your own water?

Do you grow all your own veggies?

I could and would kill for my daily intake of food however I take no pleasure in it, its like any other function in life that I have to do. I dont enjoy driving to work but I have no choice.

What Derek said. My whole family hunts and we eat just about everything. I love having a freezer full of venison, plus it ends up being a fraction of the cost of beef even after you factor in the tags, ammo, gas, butcher etc.

I can understand about the big game trophy hunting though. Most of the time there’s no sport involved, you pay a shitload of money and some sketchy Africans put you within rifle range of a “wild” animal. I am generally against guys who use a bunch of feeders and salt licks and crap like that too.
The second part is fair…but in many countries (including Kenya, Uganda and Namibia according to the Wildlife Conservation Society) hunting companies are heavily taxed and the revenue helps keep the local economies going.

Quite a bit of the hunting tag revenue is used to maintain the national parks and animal populations.
Have to ask Ink but do they not also donate the meat to local villages to eat? I really doubt they leave the carcass out for the buzzards and feral dogs.
The majority of the meat from the game taken was bought from the outfitter by local meat shops and given to local tribes. Pretty much all we ate were the filets, and the rest was given away/sold. Even the gut piles were given to the locals and the people living/working on the ranches. Nothing was wasted, except for some excess insides that weren’t needed/wanted

Unfortunately not Derek, but I do try to live as close to the earth as I can. I am though in the enviable position of a 5 minute walk to work, 10 minute walk to the grocery store (daily shopping) and having seasonal vegetables grown locally.

PBS had a great show on the Suburbanization of america and how much that has screwed us as a nation.
I do count my lifestyle blessings daily as I did grow up in Chicago and spent time in Wisconsin as a kid.
I wish we could get back to a simpler life but we have long ago jumped that shark…I try to follow the Doctors rule of “do no harm” or at least minimize your daily impact.

Dont take me wrong I would love to live on a ranch, and basically grow and live off the land.

However we are an industrial nation, is it jumping the shark well time will tell.

We all cant own the donut shop, somebody has to make the donuts.

I’m not big on sweets but in Hawaii they had this hot pastry called manapua and I would Bludgen 5 milking cows with a egg laying Chicken in the middle of a 3 ring circus while a young RV watched just to have one of those again.

Not sure how it got started that im a vegan. True, I rarely if ever eat meat, but i eat alot of eggs, protein shakes of course. pasta. and on occasion, i will have a hamburger. I’m just not a huge fan of killing other beings for food. I realize people have been doing it for years.

What i have the biggest problem with is sport hunting. Like some actor going to africa and killing elephants and lions, just for the hell of it. that angers me to no end. If i killed that persons family, im sure he would be pissed. But its ok to kill an animal. that animal doesn’t have a family?
As an avid hunter and person who worked my way through college at a meat rendering plant I can tell you without a doubt that meat is the tastiest thing on earth and killing it your self is satisfying on a level the scares some people.

As for sport hunting, I realize on the surface that it sounds cruel but it brings a lot of money to certain regains of Africa and by making the elephant valuable (ie. $10,000) to the government the government protects them. In some countries the only reason the government doesn’t let farmers mow down herds of water buffalo with machine guns is because rich gits from other countries will pay handsomely to have the honor of shooting just one.

In summation: hunters conserve wildlife.
This is what is called “hitting the nail on the head” It goes the same for fishing. It’s supply vs demand. If there wasn’t a demand from people that enjoy hunting and fishing the people profiting from this would not be protecting the ‘supply’ and far more animals across the world would end up with the same fate as the American Buffalo
