Started doing front squats today, worked up to 115 for 5, didn’t wanna go heavier just to learn the pattern and teach my CNS first, but some PR’s should be coming in the front squat department soon.
Weighed in at 185 today is my actual PR though, haha
Sidenote: Anyone have any good techniques or tips for keeping from getting the shit choked out of you while doing front squats? I’ll likely be using a clean grip, that’s what’s been feeling the best thus far[/quote]
Get a bigger upper chest and front delta. It’ll create more shelf for the bar to sit up a bit higher so its not just resting straight on your throat… I know that’s easier said than done though. Can also try a cross arms or the strap hold method I use that maximizes the self you do have and would help abit but I don’t have this problem anymore the one thing strongman has given me are some over developed front delta lol.

Honestly, I think you just need to front squat more. At first it feels like it’s choking you, especially if you go for higher reps. I just go used to it without doing much in particular. Now that I’m doing heavier front squats, it just feels like it’s suffocating me. By that I mean that it used to hit my throat and make it hard to breath. Now it’s just pressing on my lungs and making it hard to breath. I figure that is something you just suck up and get stronger.

Never had any issues with getting choked while using the clean grip, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about using straps. Makes me want to try it out.
Kristi hitting a 135lbs Squat at 130lbs bodyweight. She finally hit over body weight and bought her singlet getting in gear for her first meet I can’t wait to see it. She’s hoping for a 150 Squat, 100lbs Bench, and 185 Deadlift.

'Dem traps… I hit 185X25 for shrugs with a 3 second hold yesterday (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi, ect to count the seconds). How much do you deadlift now with grip/traps like that?

Nice on the 325X3! I just deadlifted my heaviest weight since I injured my back that I mentioned here.
conventional deadlift 335X3/345X2, I felt like I had a third rep in me after the second rep, but I felt burnt out and couldn’t even budge it off the floor (I couldn’t even do that to the back off set of 275 I was wanting to do either)
romanian deadlift 275X8 think I got this, or a couple inches from it (bar FELL out of hands)
