Two simple reasons: I like the stability and because Mike Tuchscherer does it.
9 x 110 pound incline dumb bell presses yesterday. To say my arse puckered up when I got it is to understate
I attribute my recent strength gains to training heavy 6 days per week, and having a gym right next to my apartment…
…and having an extremely open schedule on the weekends…and not having quite enough money to afford going out and doing many frivalous things.
Frivalosity is not your friend.

I see, but you know that Mike had his do-wins cut right? He removed the heel and had it flattened.
Just this week, finally got a 2xBW deadlift without belt or straps. (315@156) It took me just a year on 5/3/1. Also found my 1RM for squat this week. I was just shooting for 230 but I ended up getting 240, which was 1.5xBW. I was pleasantly surprised.
Recently I’ve used weight (just 10 extra lbs) for pull-ups and got a great improvement in that too. Went from 6-7 crappy ones to 9 much higher/quicker ones. Once I take the weight plate off I feel like I can fly on the pull-up bar haha.
I’m starting a new cycle of 5/3/1 this week with all my new 1RMs that are notably lower than predicted. So I’m looking forward to getting like 15 reps with weights that used to be my max ![]()

Did he really? I didn’t know that. Haha thats funny… I’m gonna keep wearing them anyways tho, see no reason not to. It’s like a small deficit.

No worries brotha…like I said, were all weak compared to the studs around here
Nice idea for a thread Chobbs!
Yesterday 5 planks with pretty good form, each held over 10 seconds. Afterwards I laid on the floor trying to put out the fire for about 5 minutes.

Got a double bodyweight deadlift (345 lbs, I’m 170) yesterday!
Also, I finished up Dan John’s Mass Made Simple a few weeks ago and the last workout I squatted 185x33, followed up by 17 more reps after 2 minutes of rest, which I’m pretty proud of. Except for the irrational dread in the pit of my stomach before every workout, I loved the program. Surprisingly, it helped my bench the most. The 5-3-2 rep scheme is magic and I managed to get 225 for 5x3.
Took a week off, tested my bench, squat, DL, and press and now I’m on my first cycle of 5/3/1. Like stephan said: onward and upward!
I can only imagine how you felt after those 33 reps…
I was lightheaded and breathing hard for a good hour afterward. The guys I ate with at dinner after the workout were genuinely concerned.
Luckily, I was doing the program with a friend and we pushed each other a lot. Definitely couldn’t have done it without his support and the accountability a training partner provides. Plus blasting Skrillex so that my ears hurt more than my legs.
There are a lot of great lifts on here!
Hit new PRs on the squat and deadlift just last week actually.
375x5 Deadlift
225x8 Squat
Weighing in at 176lbs.
Was supposed to hit a new single rep PR on the deadlift today but my legs are still too sore from doing legs 4 days ago ![]()
Completely raw for both lifts, no straps/belt.

Thanks man, it’s my favourite and best lift. Just like yourself I’m a rugby man and it’s a shame rugby and deadlifts/squats don’t go hand in hand ![]()
Where’d everyone go? Come on guys!
PRs today consisted of 105x10 dumbbell rows, and 280x3 on squats. I had 1 or 2 more reps in me, but since it’s getting close to the start of rugby season, I’ve just been getting my prescribed reps (I use 5/3/1)
I suppose I’ll join in. I feel so insignificant compared to most of you.
PRs yesterday were 155x20 squats and 100x3x12 guillotine presses.
However, my bodyweight hit just above 150 this morning (up from 138 a month ago). Pretty happy about that.
Today got 2 new PRs did 225 bench for four and one handed row for 8 of 110 pound dumbell
been useing 5/3/1 for the last 2 months and i love it no plans of changeing anytime soon

Great progress, keep it up
on a related note…how often/when do ya’ll test maximal strength? I didn’t at the start of this for two reasons: I didn’t want to hurt myself, and I figured my maxes would change after every workout so what was the point? But I’m kind of wondering about testing my maximal strength on the big 4. I’m having an internal dialog about waiting until I quit regularly gaining on this routine or just doing it this Friday to see where I’m at.
