I’ve been watching all the motivational vids on youtube for several years now. It’s part of my pre workout ritual. lol Anybody have anything new that’s jumped out at them lately? I’m starting prep for my shows this fall and looking for some new motivation.
I’ll go first. Here is one featuring Phil Heath. I’m pushing for Kai Greene this year but the speech in the background fired me up.
As a natural competitor myself, I find training videos and contest prep vlogs of other natural competitors and especially high level natural pros to be very motivating. While I certainly find the IFBB pros incredibly impressive, the nature of the industry and how this is their actual career makes their journeys rather ho-hum to me in terms of motivational value.
What I mean is, I find a vlog of NGA pro Francisco Inzunza waking up at 3:30 a.m. to prepare and eat breakfast, pack his meals for the day, and work a 10 hour shift as an EMT before fitting in training, cardio, and posing practice much more inspirational than Kai Greene on a stepmill in a hoodie. To me, that really isn’t hardcore.
No matter how hungry he is during his prep, he’s still living the dream in terms of being able to have bb’ing be his main focus in life.
I’ve got 3 “older” videos that still fire me up. I’m sure you can still find 'em on youtube (and definitely my cel phone)
-The Best of Dorian Yates - damn if this one doesn’t always get me going. With the song “So Cold” by Breaking Benjamin playing amidst a montage of training and contest images, you realize two things: First, Yates trained with an intensity that no one can match. Second, the guy was so dense and thick that it just sends chills down the spine of anyone with a real sense of what “big” usually looks like.
-The Best of Kevin Levrone - I always loved Levrone’s physique, and this little clip to “Downfall” just always got me going. Not with the level of focused anger like the Yates video, but the images (contest, training, and interacting with appreciative fans) combined with this particular tune always just struck a chord in me. When I had to choose a shorter posing routine than I normally did for the America back in 2011, I went with this. A few particularly astute friends knew that I chose it because of this short video.
-Jay Cutler, Ripped 2 Shredz - This video isn’t the usual hard driving motivational piece. The accomanying music was Staind’s “So Far Away”, and the video images are certainly more low key. Jay doing long cardio sessions in an empty gym while the cleaning crew does their thing, The moments after a brutal set, when your body is fully spent but your brain and face show the pain and anguish of such a task. Having felt those moments so many times myself, this just hits me deep. Memories of those evenings getting home late from work related events (“parent-teacher conferences”) during a prep, and being the last guy in the gym, doing intervals a few weeks out from a show. Body just beaten down, tears forming in my eyes just wanting everything to be over and still be proud of myself for persevering no matter the contest outcome.
S
This was my pre-exam video. I would sit in the toilets listening to it with my headphones lol.
It’s more about succeeding in general, which makes it applicable to contest preps, job interviews and coursework - for me anyway.
Nice thanks guys. Keep them coming!

That vid is “blocked in my country”. Sucks. Pretty sure this is it though. Definitely cool:

The above vid is also more along these lines. Not strictly bodybuilding, but simple ‘put your head down and do it’ for anything.
“We all go through hard times. We all go through depression. We all go through doubt and moments in your life where it’s really fucking difficult and you’re trying to figure out what the fuck your path is gonna be. It’s hard as shit. But that is what makes you a person. And those difficult moments are what build your character.”
Rogan also has a pretty long clip with Kevin Smith, where Smith talked about his father’s death and its impact on his life. Kind of a downer, but also eye-opening for some interesting perspective on going after what you want and getting things done.

I guess this means you don’t have to get proper sleep to build an awesome body.
