Hi guys and gals. Great site here. Im 6’00" around 210 and 22%BF. My ultimate goal is to add mass and get bigger. I had heard that it is better to lose fat then add mass. Could anybody suggest a program and diet to help me achive my results? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Reznor,
My friend. Great to have you aboard. First off, I won’t be the only one to say this, but you might want to check out the FAQ section…there is a plethora of info there with numerous diet plans and training protocals. Browse through them and I guarantee that you will find one to your liking. As for your question pertaining to whether it is better to lean out first and then add mass?..well…that depends on many factors. Training experience, diet, BF % to name a few. Based on your stats, I would say that it would be more conducive to shed some of that fat before you attempt to add some mass. The reason being…if you were to concentrate on putting on mass (which would call to be hypercaloric) first, the more likely it would be that those added calories would translate to more fat accumulation rather than lean muscle mass. Generally speaking, the “fatter” a person is, the easier it is for them to get fatter. However, on the opposite end…the more lean body mass you have, the better chance that those added calories will lead to additional muscle. Granted, I am putting all of this in VERY simple terms…but I think you get the idea.
Regardless, look through the FAQ section, read all you can here at t-mag and if you have any further questions, we are more than happy to help. Take care…Tony
Reznor, I’m a big fan of T-Dawg 2.0. It’s a carb-moderate diet and has gotten any number of people great results. After reading the article, if you have trouble running the numbers, just post here on the forum.
Tony’s recommendation was excellent. Read the FAQ. In addition, use the search engine and read past articles. Lots of programs to pick from. Have fun experimenting.
Don’t forget your cardio. (grin)
It’s just optimal if you concentrate on one goal such as losing fat; maintain a setpoint and THEN move into a mass gaining phase.
It’s not that you SHOULD or HAVE TO. As was mentioned previously: read the FAQ.
And welcome to the forum. :-))
What they said :-). Excellent advice, guys!
Just wanted to second the T-Dawg 2 recommendation to trim down the bodyfat before bulking. It’s very easy to follow and the results should be just what you’re looking for.
