New Hampshire Lifter II

Still with the stones and still strong as hell.

Mac, you’d be woefully disappointed at the size of the stone I carry for distance. But thank for thinking I’m a beast.

Harry, good to see you’re still checking in. You been spending time in the Philippines? Eating well and living like a king? Still throwing things too far? Getting bit by poisonous snakes?

I’ve found a local strongman competition being held on October 18th. Hopefully its not sold out. We ordered a yoke that is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. The masters events are:
log clean/press 200 lbs
axle deadlift 340 lbs
yoke 75’ carry 450 lb
Hercules hold 133 lbs
sandbag/keg carry + lift over 54’’ 200 lbs each

7/28

  1. 12’’ log clean/press 95xa bunch,115x5,135x5,155x5,175x5,200x2,155x5,several sets of practice cleans
    2a. 2 board cgb 225x3x10
2b. chin ups BWx3x5 with 20 second hold after last rep

Your log fully supports beast status.

No more equipment, LOL. Addict! I knew you were going to buy more stuff.

Not sure why but the delivery date was changed to tomorrow. So I did some axle bar deadlifts instead.

Steve, you know by now I’m jealous of your workouts. Make me keep that emotion.

The toy finally came today. I don’t have any real sneakers just wrestling shoes for lifting. So I had to wear my old man walking shoes. I measured 36’ from starting foot position to turn around. So we were doing 72’ carries.

8/3

  1. yoke carry 346x10x72’
  2. zercher yoke carry 166x2x72’

You wrote this latest, but certainly not last, toy is for strong man competition training. I was wondering if the difference between farmers walks and these is the greater weight capacity? Seems like it would be a ā€œwalking squatā€ while farmers walks approximate ā€œwalkingā€ deadlifts?

Probably attaching boulders to it soon.

I can say that neither of those comparisons actually work. The inherent sway in the Yoke makes it completely different than anything with a barbell and very much a learned technique. Similar issues for Farmers, with the added complication that the handles are slightly larger diameter than a power bar and smooth. It’s a very different animal.

Never done the carries like this. Do you have to lean to the opposite side of the step your taking or move your feet real low and fast?

Thanks CL!!

Mac, I think HA said it all. He has a ton more experience than I do.

HA, thanks for your experienced opinions/advice.

Harry, after standing up with the weight on your back you lean forward a bit and start walking. Without thinking you naturally find a balance.Quick, short steps seem to work best. The yoke can sway sometimes and throw you around a bit.

  1. 12’’ log clean and press: 90,110,140,160,180x3-5 reps 200x1 160x2 sets 140x2 sets
  2. 2’’ block cgb 135x10 225x10 245x10 225x10,12
neutral grip chins: BWx5 sets, 20 sec hold at end of each set
  3. lateral raises 20s x2x20
  4. front raise 15s x2x20
  5. hammer curls 40s x2x10
top 1/2 log press 90x2 sets

I need a lot of work on my log press.

I like to think I was about as strong as you back in my 40s when I had animal workout buddies. Not so now, but I’m going to be especially interested reading your hands on experiences with the new ā€œtoyā€. I’ve watched guys online use them, but no verbage.

Looks like a great addition to a garage gym.

Wasn’t there a moratorium on equipment/toy buying? Just asking.

Those Yoke are tough. It’s great to be able to go hard/heavy, and stay safe too. I new a P.W. here, who did/does overhead walks with that thing; 185lbs empty I believe.
Just another option to try; it’s awful btw so, enjoy.

Mac, maybe I’ll take a video of my next yoke workout. We’re most likely going heavy next time. See how that goes.

Eric, a moratorium on indoor equipment!! Come on man!! The overhead carries sound difficult. I may wait to get the regular carries down first.

Indoor equipment…of course :+1:

That was it. The 200 lb carries did me in. Maybe some grip work this weekend and yoke on Monday.

Had a video on here way back when I use to do overhead carries around the yard using our wooden bench swing stand with weights on it.
