New Hampshire Lifter II

Of course, I’m just training vicariously through all you guys. :+1:

H320, that’s sounds like a fun vid to watch.

Harry, wish I’d have seen that video. Proof that you don’t need a gym to become really strong.

Eric, it to bad we all live so far apart. It would be fun to train together once in awhile.

  1. yoke carry 166, 254,344,434,524,344,344x80 feet (drop and re-lift at 40’)

headed back inside
2. 17’’ box cambered bar squats: 85x10,175x5,265x2x10,315x10,10,5

My oldest son and I did this workout together. I had my old man walking shoes on for the carries.

524 yoke carry in 8 days.

Mac, see what I can do. Not sure whether to go heavier or lighten the load and go for speed. Being a meat head I’ll probably go heavier.

1 12’’ log press first rep cleaned: 90,110,140,160x5 180x2 200x1 145x5x5
2. log clean only 190x2x3
neutral grip db standing press 60s x2x10
3. 2 board cgb 235x10,10,5
Neutral grip chins BWx3x6
4. Poundstone curls 45x60

I tried to do some rope pushdowns but my right elbow spur let me know I was done.

Yeah, training would be great I’m sure.
Moving big stones out of your woods, in the NH humidity sounds…terrific(?)

Honestly, I need to get some ‘strongman’ stuff in my yard. I’ve got space (not good for anything really), to collect some things: a thing or to for carries, lifts, throws…log press or something similar. A DYI project or 2 perhaps…
Sorry for the hijack.

Eric, who doesn’t like sweating like a running faucet in 85-90 degree, humid weather?

  1. axle bar deadlift 4’’ block: 115,165,205,255,295,345,385x3 435x5 345x12
  2. sandbag and keg carries x3 sets each
  3. axle bar hold 205x3 sets

8/16

  1. Shld press barx10 95x5 115x3 135x3 155x6x3 135x5 95x10
  2. neutral grip db shld press 40s x2x10
  3. db curls 40s x3x10

I realized I’m only training upper body once a week. So I added in a light day. There’s a bone spur in my right elbow that I’ve lived with for quite awhile. It’s gotten to the point that I need to have it looked at again.

Yoke carries 166x2x80’ 254x2x80’ 344x6x80’ 434x80’

Grilled some burgers and zucchini after carries. Oddly grilled zucchini goes well on burgers. The garden has been doing well. Which means to many zucchinis and tomatoes all at once. I made spaghetti sauce yesterday.

Got home too late form the PI this year to plant our own garden so we raid all the relatives gardens. Having never really done them the yoke carry of 434 x 80’ looks really impressive.

Harry, I’m loving the garden this year. Very therapeutic. I just planted some late season vegetables (late season for NH). Cabbage, lettuce, beats, kale, carrots, broccoli and beats. My son worked up to over a 600 lbs yoke. Made me feel old and weak.

8/19

  1. log clean and press: 90,110,130,150,170,195,150,110 (multiple sets of each)
  2. 2 board bench 225x5x10
  3. rows with 230 lb natural stone x 5 sets

My log press just doesn’t feel natural. I need a lot of work. The stone rows work the grip. Even though my log press blows I’m enjoying the workouts. I just found out straps aren’t allowed in the strongman meet I’m signing up for. Axle bar deadlifts with a mixed grip are going to be tough.

Try thumbless. As in, the thumb on the same side as the fingers. If you can master it, it makes a big difference. If not, practice with a 3 inch pipe for a handle. The axle is easy after that.

Your son’s 600 lb yoke work is impressive. His and your 524 yoke work must be you guys’ baselines.

HA, I tried the thumbless grip. Going to need some work. It was almost as strong as my regular mixed grip.

Mac, the yoke is so new to us I hope our numbers keep going up.

  1. axle deadlift 4’’ block: 115x5 165x5 205x3 255x3 295x3 345x3 385x2,1 345x5x3-4
  2. sandbag carry. 140 and 200 lb x 3 carries each
  3. shoulder 140 lb x 2 sets

Without straps my axle bar deadlifts numbers really drop. Never felt my grip was a problem until now.

What’s the axle dead lift bar height from the ground? I think the regular dead lift is around 8 3/4".

I’m not 100% positive but it looks like the axle deadlift is going to be a tire deadlift. So at least 12’’ off the ground. That’s what I’ve been training. Without straps my grip is going to be the weak link by far. So I’ll be training grip every workout.

Remember reading years ago about Paul Anderson Clean/Pressing a train axle assembly. About 400# if memory serves me. And he had short little fingers. (This is suppose to inspire you).

That would be Apollon’s Axle, a Louis Cyr deal. That’s what the Axle (As sold by Ironmind) is based on. And I believe the original was 365 lbs. It might have been 385 lbs.

Damn it Harry. Now I don’t have any excuses!!
HA, I don’t think I could deadlift the Apollon axle let alone clean and pressing it.

  1. 12’’ log press from rack: 95,125,135,115x several sets each
  2. neutral grip db shld press: 60s x10,8 40s x20
  3. db curls: 40s x20,15,12

Worked on my lockout. I did a couple sets of light pullovers and foam rolls before I started. Trying to loosen up my lats and middle back.

With your 200 lb sandbag work, your yoke numbers will certainly go up.
