Alexus - I can’t wait to see the new program! I’d be interested in seeing what ends up working for you. And yes! Thats precisely my problem re: hitting the knees. I have this idea that the bar is supposed to be dragged up the leg! And also, I think i’m still deadlifting, or something like that. Hm…knees and hips extending at the same time…i’ll have to wrap my head around that. I’m just glad I’m not alone! I know this is a rookie mistake, so i’m ok with it, but for the love of god! my knees!

Kimba! I know, it is quite awesome. And let me tell you, it was a struggle! Bobbi’s method is def working for me though. So i’m sticking to it.

Veggie - ha! You make ‘lifting things and looking hot’ sound so easy. Easy for you! And i do think both styles of lifting have their merits. DLing for ex. is simply the coolest, and I’m sad I don’t get to do it right now. But it was just too much. And no, luckily i don’t get migraines, or headaches more generally, which is why having a headache sucks for me. lol!

Germanone - I hear ya. “make sure hips and shoulders are rising at the same time” is basically what I’m not doing. The heels I can do. So let me ask you, do you have any kind of metaphor that I could think about? Like “be the gorilla,” “lever action”, you know, so i can visualize the movement?

Alrighty, so i was supposed to train upper AND lower today, having not finished my last upper w/o.

Started with front squats.
5x65, 95, 105, 105
2x3x120
2x3x135

135 was a bit ambitious and completely ego-driven. But the big girl plates were calling to me, and I haven’t squatted with them in a long time :frowning: Anyways, the squats were a bit ugly - i fall forward. Must keep elbows up! Also I think i need to drop down more, not out.

For your viewing pleasure:

120 was good, so I’m clearly somewhere in between 120 and 135. lol!

was supposed to continue with my lower w/o but all the equipment was taken, so I just went and did the upper stuff, which turned out to be a lot for me actually.

Supersetted:
10 sets n grip pullups - Total 32 (goal was 40)
explosive pushups hands jump on boxes - 8, 6, 8, 6
hammer curls - 4x10x20

then did them stretchers that all the cool kids are doing. verdict is “good stuff”. and finished with some shoulder work using bands.

my rhomboids are def toasty.

So despite having eaten the entire house last night, i was tired from that workout and didn’t get on to the lower body stuff. meh! I’ll have to find some time to do that. I’m thinking monday, which is normally a conditioning day. I can probably do both lifting and conditioning. Its just accessory stuff. In fact, I might even do some Oly technique too. We shall see!

Anyways, tonight i’m going my friend Julio’s b-day party. I’m excited to shake my booty! Its been so long since I’ve gotten down and dirty on the dance floor :slight_smile:

I’m w/Nadia. Your curly locks are gorgeous. Those 135 fs were awesome. They don’t have to be “pretty”, you controlled the weight and killed it. Hope you have an awesome time dancing. So nice to go out and cut loose once in a while. You totally deserve it.

Your log is the shit. I’m getting (back) into Oly lifts, as well, and I’ve picked up a few pointers just from your log alone. The videos help out a lot, as well. I think it’s high time I get on the vid bandwagon.

You and Deb and all of you ladies need not worry about the aesthetics…you are all damn-fine!! A man or woman would have to be a true hater to have anything negative to say. Strong and sexy…win.

i know there are all kinds of problems with mirrors… but sometimes i do find it helpful to try out movements and crane my neck a little for a side-on view. once things look alright then i can try and focus on how the movement feels instead of watching what the movement looks like. i had the same trouble with my coach saying ‘push the floor away’ and i was really trying to do that - but not understanding what he meant or how i was meant to do that. apparently the whole idea of the first pull is to get the bar from the floor into the second position. that part of the lift is never limiting (so doesn’t require the mechanics that might be optimal for deadlifting). i saw somewhere the suggestion that you only really see your toes peeking out in front of the bar to start with (so the bar further forwards in front of you than a deadlift). i also had trouble understanding how the other oly lifters in my gym can get away with lycra shorts whereas i’ve got layers of band-aids under compression tights to try and stop my shins from bleeding. they said that the bar doesn’t touch their lower legs / knees - it is out in front of them.

carl said something to me about ‘more back’ as in aiming for the bar path coming up straight from the floor - or even a little back into me as I straighten from the knee. then it will swing out a little away with the second pull. i do need to work on things with respect to keeping my back angle constant from the floor to second position (i think that is the idea of things rising at the same rate). for me it seems that focusing on extending my knees and just having everything else remain fixed seems to help. i think that is the idea of ‘push the floor away’ (ie straighten your knees until the bar is past / you are in second position).

(with my last vids i was experimenting with trying to have a horizontal back angle in second position. i thought dan john was all for it (though i may have misunderstood him on that. others seemed to think that was the point, too. after some discussion i’ve been convinced that that isn’t optimal, though, and it would be better to have a constant back angle from the floor. i’ll aim for that with the next vids and you can tell me if i seem to be pulling it off).

i bet if you asked about this on the oly forum you would get a nice discussion going :slight_smile:

those front squats were awesome! good depth and all. a little rocking on the last rep but no where near as bad as you made it.

even looked at it a second time to find the creeper I never saw the frist time 'round.

Wow those squats are pretty awesome. Lol…be the gorilla…maybe that will work??? Maybe think of pushing your feet into the floor versus pulling the bar from the floor. Great work.

Yeah, keep posting the vids, they are helpful for me too. Nice depth on the squats even if you fall forward a bit.

god damn, those front squats on the last page looked perfect! good job, we can all be our toughest critics, the form on those front squats looked excellent IMO, and you’re looking great btw.

Thank god I’m not the only one that had that problem. Though I do now know way more than I’d like to on expanding erectile tissue.
