Notes - Scale is slowly moving north. Lean bulks are so boring. I mean, the feedback is slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Must keep the faith.

Cheat meal was 5 pieces of pizza and a double ipa. Live a little.

Saturday I leave for a 17 day vacation. Going backpacking up around Germanone’s neck of the woods. Diet and training are out until I get back. There are no luxuries where I am headed, but there are trout and bulltrout. Fuck yes…

Howdy yonkeyschnitzel. I just found this log myself. We have a lot in common there too. I’m about the same height and just came off a diet where i stopped at 168. You look great. Have a nice trip.

Have an awesome time bro…ummm no luxuries? You mean no working toilets and no all you can drink and eat? LOL Im such a wimp!

Still love backpacking but prefer to throw the kit in a canoe and carry better food, havn’t done a big trip in a while though but…

Hey DJS, thanks man. I saw yours the other day just haven’t had a chance to stop in and chat. Appears we have some similar goals also. Mainly, gaining some quality weight. Were you done dieting at 168 or did the mental fuckery of weighing 168 get you?

You have to dig a hole for your turd(s). Can you imagine the work you would have to do? lol.

The canoe and better food sounds great. Dehydrated meals get old real fast. I don’t know how many more trips like this i will physically be able to make, so I’m front loading as many as possible.
I saw something on boundary waters canoeing the other day. Ever been? It looked cool.

MY GOD! Id have to dig to China!

anybody (especially you fellas eating 5-6 meals a day) regularly test their fasting blood glucose? Mine is in the pre type 2 range consistently and I am trying to lower it. Has anyone specifically decreased meal frequency and noted positive changes to fasting blood glucose levels?

My levels don’t change whether I am eating a ton of carbs or none.

Hmm… good question. I was thinking of going to 165 but I was happy with 168 and not going on stage i didn’t feel the need to go lower. I figured I’d get a few more weeks out of my summer. As far as your glucose question, I used to be the guy who got light headed if i didn’t eat every 3 hours. I’ve decreased meal frequency and now I don’t and i feel like my insulin sensitivity has improved but i have no tests to show for it. I’m surprised your levels didn’t come in from just losing all that weight! That’s a bit surprising. Has your diet coach planned out your bulk or are you doing that on your own?

I havn’t canoed the boundary waters altough friends have and really enjoyed it.
My canoeing on your side of the pond was up in temagami (ontario) where we did about 45 days on the water in the backcountry.
My knees don’t like the long hikes so much especially when i am humping a load of kit–even give that i make every effort to go lightyweight !!.
Have you come across any of the late and great Bill Mason’s book or films–lok out for waterwalker if you havn’t and 'song of the paddle.

Mentally it fucks with me when the scale starts dropping below 170. Are you going to push your weight up again (once the leg heals)?

My fasting glucose level is consistent at 208lbs vs 166lbs. I thought losing 42lbs and going 0 carb would drop it. whatever, i suppose its time to try to find another way to get it down. My diet coach is totally on board and we are going to try some different things when I get back from vacation.

Wow, 45 days in the backcountry is a long time. That sounds awesome. Were there women on this trip? I’m mentally weighing the pros and cons. haha.

packing for lightweight is a losing battle. I try every year and my f-ing pack just seems heavier and heavier. I suppose if I left the tequila at home…Nothing like shots of patron and trout in the backcountry.

I have not heard of Mr. Mason, but I will check him out. Thanks.

8/17/11
decline db 75,85,85/8
incline bb 135,185,190,195/6
incline db 3/10

db side laterals
machine rear delts
front raises

2 pack 8 sets

I am going to have to do something different for my tendenosis. It’s not magically going away.

That trip–in fact most of my big trips, done with my partner !!.

Yep–i do swear that packs get heavier every year.

Lots of my outdoor friend do a lot less heavy walking and a lot more boating now , be that sea kayak or open canoe. With my sailing background i really should be a sea kayaker but for some reason prefer the canadian.

Some books and films to watch out for :
Path of the paddle (book) Bill Mason
Song of the paddle (book) Bill Mason
Waterwalker (film) Bill Maon.

This is canoeing (dvd) justine curgenven (uk film maker)features one of my canoe friends.

8/19/11 - 9/3/11

Vacation in No. Idaho/Montana

Highlights:
Hiked 53 miles in the 1st week, fished and car camped mostly the second week.
Lost weight and got fatter.
Drank 1/2 gallon of Mr. Beam
Caught a steelhead up near lolo pass in The Lochsa River. Steelhead put up a nice battle. The Lolo Pass is where the Lewis and Clark Expedition almost bit the bullet.
It was nice to get away from my diet and the gym for awhile.
Here is a pic overlooking some of the Selway-Bitterroot Range.

9/4/11 - 9/11/11

trained, did cardio and resumed diet.

weight is back to 171. Getting hyooooge.
lean bulks suck, tangible results are slow to come. I am trying to gain 14lbs of lean mass in the next 3 yrs. Sounds easy, huh? I think if by June 2012, I am not pleased with my last years work, i will try and push my offseason weight to 220ish and see what happens.
