Ok, I havent competed in a number of years but I keep seeing these RAW totals. Then I watch a video of Chris Smith’s 2165 total and see the word RAW with it.
What is the definition of RAW these day??
Years ago, it was No belt, wraps, or suits.
Correct me if Im wrong, and a 2165 Total is impressive as HELL but I see a Metal Squat suit, knee wraps and a belt, same with bench and pull.
Not trying to cause drama, but that looks like Geared to me.
All the suit is, is a singlet that has the metal logo on it. RAW definition changes from fed to fed, but the most gear i’ve seen allowed RAW is knee wraps and belt for safety purposes.

But you have to consider how much those belts actually helped as compared to today. Belts used to be used for back safety. Now they’re used for core stabilization as I’m sure you already know.

Belts were the same thing way back in the 70’s as they are now.
@ jmurp there is no way you’ve ever competed if you don’t know what a singlet is. Those have been required in every sanctioned meet since before I was born.

I go back and forth with this, but I’ll say knee wraps are ok. Old school powerlifting gear is about equal to wraps now a days . I got app 50 lbs from my inzer z suit, and wraps . Maybe ten from am inzer blast shirt .
I think the definition of “raw” should be allowing “gear” that doesn’t appreciably aid in the numbers. For me, that means wrist wraps and knee sleeves and belt are okay.
Knee wraps, on the other hand, really boost my 1 RM squat number. So I have a hard time with people wrapping their knees and calling it raw.
A singlet, if tight enough, might add a pound to your total, making it assistive. I am going to start the POPL Federation. Pants Off Powerlifting. You get bonus pounds for being naked(er) than your competition. Thats so hardcore.

You might be onto something there. However, much like nude beaches, those that are the nakedest aren’t anyone you’d enjoy seeing that way so finding judges would be difficult (maybe)

We could pull them right off of the sex offender registry.

hell no, hang free brother![/quote]
That wouldnt truely be raw. I had a squat turned down once because I had underarmour compression shorts under my singlet. The 100 year old judge thought it was assistive equipment. He was right. Anything that keeps your balls comfortable when you squat is assistive. So just to mkae it fair, no underwear of any kind will be allowed. Unless it is crotchless or see through.
