My lifts sky rocketed when i started bulking, i used to do 62 kg for extremely difficult 4-5 reps, now im at 77kg x 5, i didnt really ohp before, i did it with dumbells, now im at 42kg (for reps) which is pretty shitty but i used to be at 20 kg dbs, my squat went from like 52 kg to 77 for reps (5-7?)
If youāre looking to bulk, do more legs. Your OHP should be nowhere close to your squat unless you have only one leg.
My advice is work up to training legs 2-3x/week. Every time I squat, Iām starving for the rest of the day. Itās a great way to force yourself to be hungry imo. Plus, your legs have the biggest potential for mass compared to other muscle groups. Which means itāll be easier to add weight than if you just OHP.
How long were you bulking for?
am I misreading something or do you squat and bench the same weight?
Itās not all that uncommon, most people donāt understand how to brace properly or where to place the bar (Iāve seen people try and put it on their neck)
At least thatās my observations from training at a commercial chain
squat about 165lbs/77kg = shut up and do a 5x5 program or 5/3/1
I bulked for like 1 month now, i train legs REALLY hard, i just have a shitty squat, i leg press 6 plates
What difference wouls it make? Im doing 4x6 for squats
From experience, it just will.
aaand im out
You basically need to learn to think in much BIGGER time framesā¦bulking for a month or so and then cutting for a month is what I like to call the: āYo-yo approachāā¦it feels good, but it doesnāt really get you very far.
My advice is to forget the whole cutting vs bulking for a good while and just get stronger. Simplify your routine and get properly strong on all compound movements for 5-10 repsā¦thank me later.
Personally, I always do the classic winter bulk(November-March), Then cut down(April-June), Then work around maintenance till next bulking season. I Usually try to find a competition around the end of summer and end of winter, So that can change a few things, but yeah. Think long term and dont forget the maintenance block.
Squat until your squat is not shitty anymore. For like two years my bench was ~275 and my squat was ~315 which is awful in terms of proportions. But, itās because I didnāt know how to squat but I knew how to bench. Learn to squat by watching videos. Squat twice a week for 4 months using numbers prescribed by a real program, not just ā4x6.ā That wonāt get you very far. Iāve been squatting twice a week for 4 months now and my squat has gone up about 60lbs. Do it
Can I ask what a āhardā day of leg training is for you?
4 sets of heavy 4-6 reps squat
3 sets of 240 kg leg press (which is really hard 4 me) i go for like 6 reps
Hammie curls 5 sets
Calf raises 3 sets anf calvr pushes on leg presd machibe
Doesnāt look too bad. I guess.
Youād fair a lot better not going heavy as much as I presume you do.
Rack up volume points with submaximal stuff dude.
Hack off maybe 40-50lbs of your heavy stuff, and bang out 25-35 total reps of your working set. You can easily make it to 50-100lbs onto your lift within a year, if you progress in an efficient way. Hell maybe even shorter than that.
Care for your lower back, hams, and abs. Should be rather quick. Maybe a 3x5, or a quick AMRAP and be done with it.
This is not the first time that I thought you would make a great teacher.
Probably not one that everyone likes but one whose advice can change peopleās perception and really help them be a better person.
That is if one is willing to listen, which sadly might not be the case here
Much appreciated man. I was actually an instructor by trade in my previous assignment, and spent a lot of time breaking things down for folks in order for them to make a lot of those necessary connections. Getting into someoneās headspace and understanding them is really pretty crucial. One of the hardest things to get is that weāre not all alike, and people experience reality differently. Pretty eye opening, haha.
I used to work in training and part of it was reflecting with trainees about their experience.
It was so common for people to recount things that flat out didnāt happen. I donāt believe they were lying but they literally experienced something entirely different to me.
Not sure how I missed that tag.
Iām in the gym at most an hour and a half a pop these days. Used to be up to two and half hours or so.
Not sure what Iād do for seven hours ![]()
Iām not sure what Iād do for two and a half hours! lol
In all fairness, nor am I now.
