Nate Green Doesn't Workout Anymore

But that’s not what he was complaining about in his comment.

You are right, though. I shouldn’t have implied that they weren’t being truthful about the matter. Looking back, I didn’t even mean it in that way, really. Like I said, I don’t think there would be anything wrong if the editors encouraged the writers to promote their products. But the defensive nature of the responses I have received about how this has never happened in the history of the company, struck me as a bit odd. They seemed to go after Nate personally a bit too quickly. I don’t know…

I was wrong to call TC dishonest. I don’t have any proof. I am just sceptical, that’s all.

If a bodybuilding website posts a hundred articles related to lifting and sports nutrition, how often will supplementation come up?

Twenty times? Thirty times? Forty? Pretty often.

And when supplementation comes up in an article on a bodybuilding website which is also in the supplement business, how natural (i.e., no “leaning” required) is it that the product mentioned will be the one manufactured by the company which runs the website, provided that the said company makes and sells something that falls within that particular category of supplement? Consider it from a slightly different angle: How unnatural and inexcusably stupid would it be for things to work differently, from the author’s perspective?

All this is not to mention the fact that Biotest makes good stuff, and it makes a big old pile of sense that people who write for T Nation would also be big on Flameout, for example. (This is coming from someone who doesn’t use supplements anymore.)

Which is a long way of saying that you are assuming as fact something which you do not know to be so. And, when you assume, you know what’s made out of you and me…
You’re right. It’s completely beyond the realm of reason to assume that a supplement company that publishes training articles for free would encourage the authors of said article to promote their products.
This might be a good response if I had said that or anything like it.

I have been part of T-Nation for over a decade now. I subscribed to the paper magazines and was sporting a “Testosterone” shirt before anyone knew what it was. I can honestly say this about the place: TC, Shug and the other guys who pioneered this thing have always been the same since the beginning. They are a group of people who are truly out to provide advice and products that will HELP people. I believe that this is the real motivation behind everything they do.

They have helped launch numerous careers for multiple authors, trainers and other fitness professionals. They have given us more FREE articles than a person could read in a lifetime and make some of the highest quality products on the market. They have never claimed that “their way is the only way” and provide a free forum where I have personally learned more than in countless college courses.

Getting people to purchase their products allows T-Nation to provide world renowned coaches that give out FREE advice that you would normally pay thousands of dollars to receive.

I don’t think any author who has published anything on this site deserves the judgement of “whoring” themselves out unless it is from another author who has ACTUALLY written and sold some articles themselves.

If Nate has other focuses in his life right now, then that is great. I hope he is successful and happy in everything he pursues. I don’t think he should have publicly bitten the hand that fed him from the beginning. In my opinion, talking shit like that is the actions of a weak minded individual but anything else I have to say about the man, I would actually say TO THE MAN instead of flaming him online.

I know this tangent is more about sticking up for T-Nation/ It’s writers and less about Nate Green’s article but sometimes I can’t handle the amount of trash talked about a place that has given me and countless others so much without asking anything in return.

Can someone repost the link to NG’s original article mentioned in the first post? Thank you!

you sir, are a douche to say something like that.

People like you are poison for a forum such as this.

Kindly, GTFO.

If you write for a supplement company, always having a sick feeling in your stomach because you believe they sell garbage, that is exactly what you do.

I dont have to write articles to know that, I simply have to have a history of not selling stuff I believe to be bullshit.

Kind of hard to prove that on the interwebz, but I dont feel that I have to prove principles that should be self evident for a decent human being anyway.

I like how politely you asked, despite how insane it is to tell people to fuck off for disagreeing with you.

I don’t have a problem with you disagreeing with me. It’s you being a douche to contributors that I think is reason enough for you to GTFO.

“going to the gym” 5-6 times per week really isn’t that bad when you have an in-home gym. It just means that I have to go to bed a little earlier.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
I just clicked on that link and the board was way too hard on you.

I don’t understand why even the usually nice Iron Dwarf made that comment.

Also I don’t see that you looked fat. You have a naturally round face perhaps. So do I.
Agreed. I was curious what all the fuss was about so I looked at that old thread.

romeothemonk made an amusing comment about some book in a dollar bin, one or two more established posters took (for some unknown reason) some shots at him, then a mob of cowards rushed in to join in on the gang bang.

I’ve seen similar things in mtb forums. All it takes is one poster who has more “seniority” in tenure and post count to start the fire and the sheep follow.
It all seemed to be in fun at the time, and Romeo seemed to take it in stride (especially with his most recent response here). T-Nation regulars have a history of such goofing, like in the Sr.Joker thread as well as the DickNeck thread. All in fun, no harm done.

I learned a couple of things from this.

 1. Turn down the snark in my interactions with people. I should have done a good news bad news item without causing the fuss.
 2. There was some measure of truth to the comments. I lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks doing the green meat diet, 6 weeks to superhero workout and anaconda 2 protocol. This was a big positive. I then played amateur football immediately after this and performed way better.
 3. The book I needed was how to go from an overweight inflexible college grad to a healthy strong natural guy. Fortunately enough articles here gave the piece at a time I could add in.
 4. There was a reason no one gave me a huge project in my first 5 years as an engineer. I was more than capable, but wisdom and experience and grinding for years are far better than knowledge.
 5. Key Biotest products are that good, but everything else has to be right. With the right sleep, lifting plan and Plazma I gained 20 lbs in 3 months and moved my belt in a notch.

lol, why did you throw this one in there? How does this tie-into this conversation?

What kind of engineer are you? I am a young Mechanical Engineer.

I agree wholeheartedly with this defense of TNation. I don’t get into weightlifting or bodybuilding discussions here since there are so many posters more knowledgeable than I am and my interest in it is general strength and fitness, but I do share quite a bit in real life, where I am generally one of the more knowledgeable people around.

I remember arguing with Prof X that all people with interest should be welcomed because you never know. I stumbled in as a runner and pink-dumbbeller and now not only do I lift, but so does my now ex-husband, who has become pretty passionate about it. Unsurprising, as he attended college on an athletic scholarship - tennis - and was a competitive martial artist when younger. When I bought a cheap weight set for myself, he started using it, too, as a supplement to cardio stuff. Now it’s primary for him.

This is an invaluable resource as well as a business, and, for me, top-notch entertainment.

I can never understand why people get so outraged that their free stuff is attached to a profit motive.

Very revealing. Thanks for the honesty.
And congrats on you taking charge of your own destiny! I’m sure I’m not the only one who’d like to see pics of the new you.

I used to follow Nate on facebook but after the 5000th picture of him wearing sunglasses while drinking a latte with 74 filters added on to make the picture that was the end of him in my world.

Glad to hear you got on the right track. And yeah, HOT-ROX is the best therm I’ve used (and no, I’m not a shill, just calling it like I see it).

It just grinds my gears when playful ribbing turns into a free-for-all insult fest. The initial posts in that thread was just goofing like Clink mentioned, then people just turned ugly IMO. Several posters even made comments to the effect, ‘I know I shouldn’t be laughing but…’ They knew it was fucked up. And the main instigators just kept on with the bashing.

To romeo’s credit, he turned it into a positive. And hey, if someone trolls me I’ll dish it back and then some. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to respect people who use internet anonymity to be asswipes.
